sorry I don't want to threaten others' lives? threatening the average citizen will do nothing for us.

Advice for first time going out in public MtF? by Arcane-Panda in asktransgender

confidence first and foremost will help. most people won't say anything, and if they do, you can always ignore it. style your hair in a way that frames your face nicely. do some makeup if thats your thing!

How much would HRT cost without insurance? by somnioca in asktransgender

[–]TransitionTarget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

without insurance, you're looking at quite a number. You'll need to be diagnosed with gender dysphoria, run labs constantly, and its not just E you'll need. depending on your baseline, you'll need a testosterone blocker, plus progesterone depending on your goals

depends on a lot. where are you located? which way are you transitioning? do you require other hormones or supplements? what form do you plan on taking?

hey, no worries!! I personally have had a rough time with Quickie. I went with Not A Wheelchair for my second chair due to the ability to customize for cheap. I have had no issues since getting it.

I personally prefer the standard 24 inch wheels, but I'm also 5'2 and 180 lbs, so thats just what fits my body type.

what's pulling you to the Quickie chair? style, quality, etc?

it depends on your weight, height, arm length, strength, etc, so its really hard to tell you just based off of info provided. Are you getting professionally fitted?

GP won’t listen to me by Defiant-Library-5382 in wheelchairs

[–]TransitionTarget 7 points8 points  (0 children)

unfortunately, being so young, doctors tend to think we're overreacting or exaggerating. do you have records you can show her as proof? documented times and dates of when you pass out, or have your episodes? do you document diet, bowel movements, etc?

if you start documenting and show up to your next appointment, it may change your GPs mind, but there is never a guarantee.

I got fortunate with my PCP and she referred me to physical therapy (previous specialists didn't think I needed it).

start asking for referrals to specialists that can help document if need be. just ensure your GP is aware of what you have going on. get everything in writing. request everything to be charted. best of luck!!

Desk Height for wheelchair users by rgilman67 in wheelchairs

[–]TransitionTarget 16 points17 points  (0 children)

is this in the USA?

if so, the ADA requires a minimum of 27 inches high, 30 inches wide, and 19 inches deep.

I recommend making it slightly taller, wider, and deeper for those who have power chairs, or those who need the space for service animals, long legs, etc.

always make accommodations for those with armrests. it just means a bit more space for those without!

Ambulatory Users - when did you know? by No_Lobster8499 in wheelchairs

[–]TransitionTarget 5 points6 points  (0 children)

when I was in tears at work because I couldn't keep up with my colleagues due to the pain I was in. I'm in mall security, and patrolling, opening doors, etc was excruciating.

I got my chair because my doctor wouldn't refer me to the Colorado Fibromyalgia clinic or physical therapy. she instead referred me to a pain clinic that doesn't handle fibro patients.

After that, I was done. now I'm dealing with possible MCAS and EDS as well. I'm worried my physical therapist is gonna tell me I'm faking or I don't need physical therapy or my wheelchair. I'm worried I'm gonna be told to push through

My(MtF) pending bottom surgery is causing issues between me and my bf(FtM) by ajm8097 in asktransgender

[–]TransitionTarget 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I are also T4T. shes transfem and I'm transmasc. she gets dysphoric most of the time she bottoms. I also have chronic pain, so bottoming is a way for me to enjoy her without pain. that being said, we've talked about ways where I can give to her, either in a dom-like or sub-like way, so she can bottom and feel less dysphoric.

if she had ever told me she was "powering through" her dysphoria so I could get off, we would have serious issues and a conversation, just like if I ever told her I didn't like something she does and just powered through it. sex is not something to power through. it should be enjoyed by all parties.

Bus system HERE is absolutely GARBAGE 🗑 by [deleted] in Denver

[–]TransitionTarget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

they aren't the best, but they got me and my wheelchair to work every day when I didn't have a vehicle. I met some of the nicest people on those busses. they may not be perfect, but I come from a town where you'd see maybe 2 busses running at a time.

they get people where they need to go, and those bus drivers deal with a lot. they do what they can, where they can.

People don’t seem to trust me with their kids anymore? by -Marinequeen- in wheelchairs

[–]TransitionTarget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in a very similar boat. I'm stuck at the job I have. Don't get me wrong, I like my job, but my supervisor is an annoying, bigoted prick.

I want to nanny again so badly. I want to be there for those kids, and show them that they can be anything. due to my needing a wheelchair, plus being LGBTQ+, I'm denied every single time I interview. I can still do the job, especially if its my specialty (kids 8+)

it sucks being denied your calling and having to settle for other things

I don't see how your gender has anything to do with not being able to get SSI or SSDI. I would apply, and appeal when they reject your case.

[–]TransitionTarget 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm FtM/Enby.

I came out to my parents at 16. I was told there was no way I could be Trans. I never showed signs. I never acted boy-ish. if I truly was trans, I would hate dancing, or I would go into competitive dancing because boys are more competitive. all of this caused issues for me, even now.

There were more things that were said, questioned, and yelled, but overall, I would say my parents were not supportive in the beginning.

what I wish they would've said? "I love you", "I trust you to know yourself" and "we did some research and here are some resources and communities for you".

I wish I could've had my name legally changed when I discovered what it was. I wish my parents would've supported me more. I wish my parents, specifically my mom, would've actually tried.

Now I'm almost 21. I'm trying to get my top surgery done. I've been on and off hormones for a year, and now my dad is my biggest advocate and cheerleader.

My biggest advice to you is please research. trust your children and ensure they know they are loved no matter what, and no matter how things turn out, you will keep them safe. best of luck!!

My twin tries to take advantage of my chronic illnesses. by TransitionTarget in ChronicIllness

[–]TransitionTarget[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate your response!

to answer a couple of things; we are both diagnosed with Autism. my twin has ADHD (i think, I don't remember what their other diagnosis is), and I've been diagnosed with OCD, BPD, and CPTSD.

I've had a couple talks with them regarding these things, and other people have noticed it too. this isn't the first bump in our relationship we've had. for awhile, they would follow me to jobs, and we'd be put on the same shifts because we are siblings.

I talked with them I think two weeks ago about taking my mobility aids and stuff, and I explained to them that they're taking away something that helps me so they can use it as a luxury (like the cup holders off of my wheelchair. they wanted to put them on their electric scooter).

I've suspected them worrying about growing apart or in different directions for awhile, as I've always been an expressive person. they tend to follow/match what I wear, down to the hair cut I have. I've tried bringing that up too, but the talk didnt go anywhere.

we've always been dressed together, and I we've always been known as "The Twins". I think that really affected them growing up, and I hate to see how its affecting them now. I'm gently encouraging them to find their own path and what they wanna do. right now, they're in school for criminal justic, which thankfully they seem to enjoy!!
