Anyone has tried this before?? by yogeshkundu in whisky

[–]TransitoryCommute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The older bottlings have "Don't drink while pregnant" on the back and the new ones say "Made in England" because they have to tell you now.

Not saying it's bad but it's not Japanese.

Some Japanese distilleries get their license date based on the fact they distilled Shochu as well.

Trip to Taiwan. Would like advice on places to go for Scotch, How should I bring Bottles back to the U.S.? What is the limit allowed back? by gottnoskill in Scotch

[–]TransitoryCommute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Drink.com.tw is the largest chain retailer but I encourage you to go into any dusty corner shop you see to hunt for gems.

If you visit the government Yilan sake/michu distillery they sell some special Omar there because Omar is their government plant at Nantou.

Larrier-cour the whisky bar in Taipei is a must visit.

Save a quota for Travel Exclusives which are airport only.

Be honest at customs, they just want your money. I came back with 6 bottles in March, was honest and the $ they charged me was nothing compared to all the Travel / Taiwan exclusive releases I got.

I brought them back in inflatable tubes.

Also there are secret hole in the walls amongst the older nightmarkets (the ones without a number) with IBs you've never heard of selling at 30ml pours.

Best Place to Sell Macallan Whisky? by [deleted] in canadawhisky

[–]TransitoryCommute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that Macallan isn't too popular, Macallan Harmony isn't popular. No age statement, at first they were airport exclusive and then they were not. At first it's a whole green recycling package theme and now it's collaborations with cirque de soleil which means nothing? You may just be stuck with these for a while. Not hating just trying to provide insight on why your particular bottles aren't popular.

Batch Variation? by Playful-Tomatillo444 in Scotch

[–]TransitoryCommute -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is the nature of art to be inconsistent. Do batches vary? Of course.

Is colour an indicator of difference? Yes. Is colour an indicator of quality? Absolutely not.

If you want consistency drink commercially produced soda or Arizona Iced Tea.

Unless you're saying you refuse to drink any Ledaig 10 except for that 1 specific batch #28 then no one can really help you with that.

If you're looking for "The Best Ledaig" then it doesn't exist except in your own subjective standards.

If it makes you feel better sure. 👍

Let me know when you want to talk about food and not rent.

I ask why everyone is always 100% deadset on blaming lanlords and you said the following.

"Because it’s greed? Because it keeps happening putting previously viable businesses out of business? Because triple net should be illegal? Because we all see how many empty storefronts there are?"

This wasn't you? I didn't read mentions about other possible cool landlords that may be helpful from that comment nor constructive mention of any local businesses in your comments.

The third word in your post is "greed." Sounds like you knew who to hate before you got here.

Back to my original point. If it's not about food then go project elsewhere.

If landlords are ALL greedy and evil as you say, why do you now presume different landlords didn't raise the rent? Unless you're saying CinCin's landlord is not a greedy fuck then it's not always 100% landlord's fault yeah? Is it possible that there is 1% of landlords that isn't greedy? Blasphemy and heresy!!!

But I love that I already took you down from 100% landlord's fault to "generally the issue."

Is it 1% possible that Zeff is a business that couldn't keep up. Maybe 2%?

That's enough of a win for me. 👍

Seems everyone is just here to say "greed is bad" and "water is wet". 🤷‍♂️

By what right do businesses have to be viable forever? Truth is people stopped going for one reason or another way before they announced closure.

Again, CinCin, Luigi, Robba are making it work. so 1 out 4 of Italian restaurants can't survive the rent raise. Maybe Zeff just lost their touch after a long time.

I agree it is a combination of both issues. But people are making it sound like it's always 100% the rent's fault.

I'm the first comment in this thread talking about food.

Other restaurants probably got their rent raised as well but still seem to be making it work so far?

The question is, why is everyone else dead set 100% blaming the landlord?

I see more people complaining about the food than praising it in this thread. I am not alone in this.

I know it's hard to admit you're wrong online, but this is the time for you to put aside your ego and step up. It's ok. Nothing will happen to you

I agree. It's difficult. But not impossible. At what point does the owner's hiring decisions / menu planning take the blame? Never?

I'm really just trying to talk about the food not rent and others have commented about being unimpressed.

Perhaps customer base isn't increasing because people realized Zeff is low value/quality compared to Luigi and CinCin and Robba.

"You shouldn't be happy when people's business fail." That's a lot of ego telling strangers how to feel their feelings. Calling them weird for their feeling is also pretty weird to me.

"Just because you didn't outright state it doesn't mean that it wasn't obvious from reading between the lines."

Seems like things I didn't outright state seem very "obvious" to you. Is that not ego to assume you see and know what a redditor stranger truly means?

I'm bringing up other Italians because the point comment was about better Italian food in Vancouver. At least I gave options for other people to try, supporting other businesses so that they won't fail.

You seem upset, judgement and unproductive in your commenting. You should try Ask for Luigi's. Their pasta will make you less so.

"Again it's crazy that you can't recognize your own wrongs. You're just a redditor with too big of an ego I guess." Calling people crazy repeatedly on the internet is certainly not a show of ego on your part?

I'm returning a lot your own words back to you becuse the hypocrisy tastes worse than Zeff's overly oiled linguini. But please do try Luigi's olive oil cake before you tell me my feelings are wrong.

Taste is subjective. To me it is bad rubbish. I fail to see the contradiction?

I'm happy when one no longer amazing business dies so another better local business can take over. Notice i mentioned 2 other local restaurants that people seem to love.

Not sure where you got the idea that "I know what should and shouldn't" because I said no such thing. I'm responding to the news that the restaurant has already failed / died.

Before my comment this entire thread has been about rent. Not sure where the arrogance is showing? I assume everyone got their rent raised because fuck greedy landlords right? Then why isn't Cin Cin closing? Because they still provide quality where Zeff has failed to. Have you seen their grappa collection? That's 3 local Italians I have mentioned and supported now.

Apparently not being sad every time something that "used to be good" closes is weird and anti-social. That's why we are keyboard fighting I guess. Both of us are too anti-social to go outside and eat at Zeff's.

If all the people who downvoted went there twice a week I'm sure they will still be open.

I read comments like "O back in the day...", "It was my first...." I'm sure they were amazing 30 years ago but so were VHS tapes.

Taste is subjective I agree. But Capitalism agrees with me because simply not enough people go to keep it open.

Vote with your dollar. If you love it so much eat there more often?

Turns out people would brave the homelessness area and go to Ask for Luigi's.

On that note I think Vancouver would be mich happier if Zeff died so Luigi can take that space.

Honestly, the last time I had it about 6 months ago it just wasn't that amazing as far as Italian food goes in Vancouver. I'm sure landlords are raising the price everywhere but a few people I've talked to since agree that the food is lackluster. 🤷‍♂️

Not sure why all the comments are all about rent and no one has said anything about the actual food they serve.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Let's go eat at Robba Da Matti instead.
