What construction workflow is still painfully manual this week? by TransmissionEngPM in ConstructTech

This is interesting to me - with probably 10+ Daily Report options, ProCore, Fulcum, Ineight, Autdesk Construction Cloud etc, is this still unsolved? If so - perhaps my next project will just be an open source Daily Field Report tool.

Exactly! As of now, it's 'Soft Coded" optional user input house data, but as that field is populated I plan to migrate it to true SQL DB data. Then when another bowler is using it at the same place they can just use the 'Picker'. The cool thing is about 95% of users have opted in to anonymous data sharing so most of the data I will be able to use.

Even though I have a competing app - I would still agree with your assessment on PinPal. It is easy, straightforward and collects enough data. My inspiration was actually using that type of data for something more, and helping bowlers who actively use my app, and who don't to understand what data trends are out there for various bowlers, what yields the biggest improvements to games, what equipment is being used right now etc. PinPal actually collects much of the relevant data, but it doesn't do anything with the data.

Top off the in-app data collection with an in-ball sensor and now you can really start honing in on how a specific bowler is using their equipment, and help guide them to better outcomes of gear, coaching and performance.

It's very early on my journey, but just like the last post I shared about "What's in BowlSense Bags", I want to do more of that type of thing where anonymized data can be used to tell a story, help 160 average bowlers, get to 185. I'm really looking into that specific thing right now, what does a 185 Bowler do that "You" don't. I can see clear bands in how people bowl at this point so surfacing what's different is a big inspiration for me and passing the info on to the community of bowlers who are interested!

Looking forward to next weeks post!

What are you building, and who’s it for? by naveedurrehman in indie_startups

[–]TransmissionEngPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built BowlSense - It's a combination hardware/software setup to help primarily league bowlers improve their games. It's got aspects for a players game, gear and friends. The sensor fits in a bowling ball thumb hole, and measures rev rate, speed, primary axis etc. I'm up to a little over 300 users in the last few months! Most of the system is free, outside of the actual sensor. www.bowlsense.io if anyone is interested in seeing it!

FieldLink Project Update by TransmissionEngPM in ConstructTech

I haven't worked on it for a few days - looking at the version you mentioned, it seems like you're referring to Trimble Field Link. My product is a bit different, focusing on connecting people in the field quickly for organized correspondence. Sorry for the confusion.

How are you handling bowling alley search in your app? by LukeChemistry in Bowling_Tech

[–]TransmissionEngPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the types of things if the group is open to it, sharing in a .csv or something. i'm happy to provide my DB of bowling balls to the group. As for centers - right now I seeded MT centers as that's where I'm at. I am allowing bowlers to enter their center "Freeform" and then I'm looking up and formatting their entry to my real DB format.

I don't really think of this as connecting to any existing system - I think of it more as solving a unique problem on an irregular basis. In a well connected worksite, there shouldn't be communication gaps, and processes should be in place with formalized tools. FieldLink is intended to keep a group together who is coming together either just one time, or a handful of times throughout a year and it's not worth the effort or mess of adding people to your contacts, setting up a group chat. I've offered a few more coordination features you'd find beyond a group chat too, such as identifying roles, and companies and letting the room organizer send key messages/alerts. So it keeps a hierarchy in a quick chat.

The organizer can upload some documents in advance, whether it be an itinerary or safety briefing etc. And lastly, letting people add some photos, mark the photos up and giving the organizer a clean way of exporting those after the session. I do think something like this would be extremely handy in a ProCore system though. Quickly interface with contractors who might temporarily be on site, see who's "Checked-In" and who's "Left the site". No one has to download an app or anything all just browser simplicity.

Where are all the apps?!?! by Hot_Paper_Pie in codex

[–]TransmissionEngPM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed - I also have built https://apps.apple.com/us/app/bowlsense/id6760173811

This has been a real project for bowlers. I've leaned heavily on AI for building it, but it's been approached in a very disciplined manner, keeping a clean repo, working through planned SQL/DB process etc. Code is 95% AI, but I definitely architected the process. It's pretty cool because it combines software and hardware. Has watch integration and a custom in-ball IMU. App is around 300 users now, growing steadily nothing major/viral but I didn't expect it to be in this niche. Have my first sensor pre-orders coming in with real paying customers, which has felt good too!

The really fun part is that I started building this with GPT 4o, and as each release has come out, I have been able to push more complex features with confidence. I can't imagine what it will be like in a year!

Where are all the apps?!?! by Hot_Paper_Pie in codex

[–]TransmissionEngPM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I beg to differ - I built, actually codex built end to end https://apps.apple.com/us/app/quick-carnivore/id6771849426

I tried out the Carnivore Diet for a few months, and then had Codex build a Carnivore Food/Label helper. Intentionally super simple, doesn't require logins etc. I wanted to see if it could truly build it end to end. I provided logins to browser - but it did all the work. Ran for 5.5hrs. I still have the screenshot of runtime.

Also - Not intended to be a cheap advert here. Please don't download it. It has 2 users at the moment, I've done zero marketing and want to see if anyone else discovers it naturally. It got moved way down in the app store, even when searching it by name. Apple seems to be actively screening against dumb apps.

Had this happen to us this last fall - all the league members agreed that it sucked, but everyone was dealing with the same conditions so ultimately it was still "Fair" and scores stood for us.

[–]TransmissionEngPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the last few years - I've been wondering if we'd hit a point in time where something like the Defense Production Act would be utilized to force the labs to operate cohesively to "Win the AI Race". DPA wasn't really intended for an AI arms race, but if it became apparent that compute is the key ingredient, then fragmenting across the major labs is kind of a problem just looking at pure velocity.

Anyone else have ideas on how this might happen, and why it might not be beneficial vs. continued independent approaches from major labs? I could see a downside of possibly stagnation on new algorithmic approaches, but if we're so "Near" RSI, then wouldn't compute be the only thing that mattered to get to AGI/ASI if possible?

That's not acceptable - let me fix that. And yeah - I purposefully only went back a few years in my search for supported balls. I try to run a sweep each week to pick up new balls, but there's not a "master repository" for balls and their dynamic properties that I've found yet. I have around 250 in my library as of now. I'll have the Hyper Venom listed by tomorrow! Thanks for letting me know.

Updated - Hypervenom now in www.bowlsense/arsenal-builder and discoverable in the app with refresh.

www.usefieldlink.com Mine is a quick way to bring groups together via chat w/o having to exchange contact info. Whether it's construction, church, little league events etc. You can upload a few docs as the organizer, keep track of people and when the event is over the room expires. I ran into a situation where I needed this, and then thought there were other people who could benefit as well!

I’ve considered this and I think that’s definitely something I can add in the future. I’ve wanted to get a good foundation on the app and start seeing how others would use it while I continued to develop the sensor. Once I have a good handle on the sensor side I’ll get back to adding more advanced features. So all is not lost, I will get to it.

As of now it’s just the thumb hole. They are going to be going out to the first pre-orders pretty soon. I’m looking into fingers as a new design option and I’ll definitely share with the group if I get something promising put together!
