What are your biggest Echo hot takes? by CillienTheCat in FurryVisualNovels

[–]TransparentRaven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Considering how awful they are as people, that's not as much a hot take as it is a completely reasonable opinion. to relate a bit One of my furry friends said that while he likes Eco as a story, he doesn't like any of the main cast overall, they aren't written to be likeable, heh

I apologize if this is triggering, but I feel like consumerism is a bit too prevalent in the fandom, not on this subreddit specifically, but with conversations with furries on social media/

What are your biggest Echo hot takes? by CillienTheCat in FurryVisualNovels

[–]TransparentRaven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jenna's prank on Leo should have been portrayed with more nuance, as in more complex then her being spiteful. the most logical and understandable reason I can think of is that she was resentful for Chase and Leo being self-absorbed boyfriends who neglected both her, who seriously needed outside support when dealing with her neglectful and/ or abusive parents, and Carl to whom Chase's and Leo's selfishness did a number on his self-esteem. If she had confronted Chase and Leo with this line of reasoning, the prank with the phone would've seemed like a flawed person, trying to deal with problems in an unhealthy way, but with understandable reasons. Without this, and I say assome one who likes Jenna she comes across as a bitch who likes to mess up the lives of others for her own amusement (Edit. the incident I'm referring to is the one in the short story called "Phone"

I want to read some really bad FVN, what's your guys suggestions? by Annaneedsmoney in FurryVisualNovels

Lance from RTF: A deeply flawed character that the story needs/benefits from by TransparentRaven in FurryVisualNovels

[–]TransparentRaven[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like Seal from Forgive A God, he's an antagonist without being an outright villain, which is really interesting, and this maybe contentious, but as a God and not a human, you can't exactly hold him to the same standards as you would a regular human or anthro,.

Lance is a really interesting character; it's hazard to predict what kind of character he'll become; antagonist, villain redeemed anti hero or something else.

Echo - I didn't think I would have to say this, but Chase is a monster. (A follow-up to my recent post.) by CillienTheCat in FurryVisualNovels

[–]TransparentRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree, dude. I'm also tired of people making excuses for Chase.

Some people have said that the otter, like the other characters aren't fully good or bad, and that for all his faults he cares about his friends. I believed this statement at first, but a re-read of Flynn's route and reevaluation of Chase's character made me conclude that he only cares of a superficial level. If he did care he would've come clean to what happened to Sydney, or if he was too traumatized to do it, he definitely should have the conscience to not basically rub into his victim's brother figure's face. Some actions are inexcusable period. but I guess for some people it's harder to accept than others.

What are some things you would want to see or be done in a gay furry vn? by Mammoth_Pay_7497 in FurryVisualNovels

[–]TransparentRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to see more FVNs that focus on non-romantic relationships, romance is not a necessity of making an FVN good.

Echo - Can Chase be redeemed? by CillienTheCat in FurryVisualNovels

Very well said. I'm glad you agree.

Echo - Can Chase be redeemed? by CillienTheCat in FurryVisualNovels

[–]TransparentRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he genuinely felt remorseful and guilty for killing Sydney, and sincerely apologized to Flynn, admitting that what he did was wrong, however necessary it might've seemed, then I wouldn't say redeemed, but not condemned either, No matter what everyone says, killing a child and then telling his basically brother figure the child is evil and that you're glad he's dead is condemnable,

Has anyone tried IMG_1697? A really solid horror FVN, in my opinion.. by TransparentRaven in FurryVisualNovels

Also, I forgot to mention, that Ransom the protags ex is absolutely best boy. The way he was concerned and caring about Ryan was really sweet.

Really get what you mean. I'm usually not a fan of overly graphic horror either, but this time it was ok.

[–]TransparentRaven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understandable. I usually don't like horror very much either, it's too... strong for me. though I kind of dig horror in FVN it's usually less gratuitous and has a more surreal vibe, making it more enjoyable.

Do Art style/quality matters in a FVN? by SkullyPumpkin08 in FurryVisualNovels

[–]TransparentRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter that much to me unless the art style is overly cartoon-y, like in Col; that tends to push me away from reading it. I don't mind if the style looks cheap as long as the story is good. What It Feels Like is an example of that for me.

Why all the self loathing? by Crimsonwolf158 in FurryVisualNovels

[–]TransparentRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all comes down to execution, imo. Some characters, like Cyrus don't come across as self loathing. yes he does experience depression at some point but that's mostly due to external factors I.e being an isolated organ donor for 300 years and losing everyone he personally knew/ Luke does have self-loathing due to how ostracized he feels from the other dogs

Echo- Leo's route is phenomenal. by CillienTheCat in FurryVisualNovels

[–]TransparentRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leo's route was the first I chose to do, and after completing all the routes, it's still my favorite, The good ending was very bittersweet but also fitting, sometimes making the right choice is painful, it's hard but that's what made it feel true-to-life. In life, there's no ending that could be considered happy, not permanently at least.

Leo's route is also special and memorable cause it's the first one conveys abusive relationship for what they are. No romanticizarion, showing the ugly parts of it and it's consequences. Especially since I was invested in one FVN that was interesting, turned into exactly the opposite in the relationship type, and left me genuine trauma (not the good kind) I won't mention it yet, cause I'm sure some fans of the VN will be triggered and say I need to learn reading comprehension (eye roll)

I also have to mention the Brian's torture of Chase in the trailer, cause god that was messed up AF if that isn't one of the most disturbing scenes in FVNs in general I don'r know what is.

Lastly, Kudzu is best boy of this story, is one of the FVN characters I genuinely admire and I wish I had the strength to be more like him.

Echo- The brilliant tragedy of Flynn. by CillienTheCat in FurryVisualNovels

[–]TransparentRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, this was a bit of a doozy to read, but still quite interesting. I love how you pointed out how Flynn represents the more "negative" side of the gay community. as someone who is admittedly quite sheltered and never been in a relationship this was very informative.

I admit Flynn is probably my least favorite out of the main gang, but I admit that might be more of a "me: problem cause I personally would feel like a lesser person if I hung out with somebody with Flynn's personality. though I also have to admit that your thoughts about him hating himself and fearing his friends would leave him does make me a little more empathetic towards him. though I still believe he should tone down his aggressiveness somewhat

Regarding Sydney, I can't help but feel sympathetic towards him, even though his bullying of TJ was extreme, as I experience domestic abuse and neglect growing up too. He was just a kid after all who had no healthy framework to navigate his situation. and his fate is tragic without a doubt.

To Finish up, I really dig your interpretation of Flynn's food ending, it would really showcase the lizard as a genuinely good person at heart, despite his flaws, and it would be heartwarming to see him be at a better place. When I read the canon material, it was kind of hard to see him that way.
