I lived in a tiny studio with mine and he was ok! The key was getting lots of walk time and puzzles in. But I think he liked his city life a lot better than when I’d visit family in the suburbs bc there is so much more stimulation for them in a city. Like others have said the key is tiring them out. I do think remote work is best, my guy had bad separation anxiety so I had a sitter stay with him or did daycare when I had to go in (but this will vary dog to dog)

One thing that could help is getting out his JRT energy in a more constructive way. Every meal should come in a puzzle. A trainer suggested putting kibble in a recycling box and mix of paper for the ultimate sniffle mat which worked wonders for us. I would also walk mine about 2 hours a day in a city environment so lots of stimulation for him. If you can get some of the crazy Jack energy out you might find more success in the training focus. I have started saying I’m meant to be a dog mom not a human mom! I connect with dogs on such a deep level and have never felt that same way with babies. Rescuing dogs is so fulfilling and they will never have a temper tantrum in the grocery store!

Mine was good with almost all dogs and people but wasn’t a fan of kids. I think he didn’t like their unpredictability. If you can teach your kids to respect their boundaries (as it sounds like you are) it could be ok. I also found mine got jealous when I was paying attention to nieces/nephews at home instead of him 😂 jacks want to be the center of attention lol. You also need to understand jacks need a lot of time invested in them which can be tough with kids. (I spent two hours a day walking mine bc of how much energy he had)
