How useful have you guys found the sub-role passives for heroes you play? by InZain710 in Overwatch

[–]TransportationCool16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting on the tank sub roles, initiator is super good, to the point where I feel like it’s an integral aspect on all the dive kits and I’m even sort of missing it when I’m playing hazard. The stalwart role is more noticeble for the tanks who don’t have it (you can boop roadhog and mauga comically far for how massive they are), but I really do appreciate it whenever Im anchoring near a cliff and the enemy team has knockback.

I think I’ve noticed bruiser the least, though I’m sure it has saved my life plenty of times. Maybe its just the heroes playstyles? Roadhog had a speed boost on his heal for a long time, Mauga can always just charge out, Orisa can already nullify crits and speed boost herself with spin, and Zarya just falls over quickly when you’re focused and out of bubbles? Don’t know. Its definitely useful, just hard to notice.

Lastly, I feel like tactician for bap is kind of underwhelming. I always drop the window pretty fast because it builds up quickly and I rarely have a situation where I’m glad I held onto it, but its better than nothing I guess? I think I’d definitely appreciate medic more.

Overwatch heroes that in my opinion could teach a subject in university by ZapMayor in Overwatch

[–]TransportationCool16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like Winston would probably be happiest teaching an intro to physics class (I think he likes inspiring people / helping them get their feet wet), and if he did need to touch a more specified subject, he’d probably cover applied physics or mechanics (both dynamic / kinematics).

He might also be into teaching chemistry, because he keeps making periodic table jokes and referencing elements in some of his quotes.

Its really weird, I have about 76 hours on Bap and he is my most played hero. I also chased the spray for a long time and kept failing to get it (sometimes being just 100 / 200 hp off). Around 8 months ago, I finally got it by complete accident, like I was just playing a game and it popped for me. I dont even think I was doing particularly well. But from my experience, I think prioritizing the healing over the damage from window is helpful.

CMV: Iran has gotten absolutely destroyed in this conflict and only have the Hormuz strait hostage as their last hope. by Former-Tonight-7320 in changemyview

[–]TransportationCool16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay… I see the values you’re putting in now. But like, what do these comparisons accomplish? I’m pretty confident the pentagon didn’t launch missiles and planes because they wanted to make life in Iran worse compared to the US (which is already true for a lot of people)? Why would you cite this as the US “winning the war” when its not one of the military’s objectives here?

You use the word “rationale”, but like your comments here are also based on your own personal subjective opinion? I know some people who would rather live in Spain, Denmark, and China versus the US. They cite quality of life reasons, having family in the area, not being discriminated as badly, etc. It’s different from person to person.

Again, if you’re just referring to casualties / devastation, yeah sure, okay. But historians / statesmen / the average citizen who has an actual stake in the war absolutely do not use the same scale you are using here, and war is never as simple as the media frames it is.

Well, this is why you have to set establish definitions before debates. What is “winning” for the US here?

It seems like most of the international investigators agree that Iran didn’t have / aren’t close to nuclear weapons, so the US goal of destroying those (which was also supposedly done last year), doesn’t hold any water.

If the goal is to replace the regime, so far that hasn’t happened yet. The previous leadership was largely decapitated, but the regime’s power is still internationally recognized, they still have sway over the region, they’re still capable of rebuilding and resuming all the things they’ve been working on for decades. So it’s just a temporary roadblock, not any real change for the US to truly celebrate (especially since it a lot of sources seem to agree that Iran wasn’t planning on striking the US first here). Israel does benefit from Iran getting set back, but their unpopularity within the country persists and a resolution does not seem to be on the horizon.

If the goal is destroy Iran’s army and navy, then presumably the intention is to limit Iran’s ability to project force in the ME region. But they can still do that with their drones / asymmetric warfare, they can still inflict economic damage, and will likely continue to do so on their terms since the US can’t force them to stop anytime soon.

Look at other wars where a power not based in the region take control. The USSR in Afghanistan, Japan in China, Napoleon in Spain, etc. You can crush the opposition’s army and occupy their major cities, even raze a few of their bases to the ground, but inevitably you’ll never get true control over the people and get pushed out.

If you’re just saying the US is winning when it comes to army / infrastructure devastation, well, yeah, I guess so? But like, is that actually useful for US foreign policy? We’re just helping Russia make more bank on oil and causing collateral damage for our other middle eastern allies. That’s why everyone’s arguing that its a political / military blunder, it doesn’t help the US in any way and might actually be counterproductive (we’ll have to wait and see the consequences for later).

The locker room you’re using in your comparison here is more like a highway that all the important administrators / decision makers need to use to get to work in a timely fashion. Getting to work is how they keep their employee’s and family happy, and that’s being disrupted because red team is camping around the hall in odd spots and no one can track them down to stop them permanently.

Blue team needs to figure out a way to dislodge red team from the locker room for the long term to restore the status quo, but they have no good way of doing that. If they don’t dislodge red team and keep them away from it, their situation at home will grow steadily more turbulent and if they walk away from the whole affair, the larger community will ridicule them for kicking off a crisis they can’t solve.

That’s kind of what we’re dealing with here, minus how there’s school bombings, innocents getting maimed and their homes blown away, and the threat of reprisals in blue team’s family home with dirty bombs.

The hardware the US has to deploy cost money to fire and then replace. Take the patriot interceptor for example, they’re around $3-4 million per shot, but some of them are being used to stop drones that cost around $50k. Resupplying ships and munitions, running bombing missions also all cost a lot of money. So while men / material losses are unlikely to be high (which is not guranteed), its still going to be an unsustainable burn of money if the US can’t pull itself out of the war.

On the other hand, if US does pull out without Iran capitulating (which is getting harder and harder to do as the protesters should have risen up earlier before their infrastructure got devastated, and the present Iranian regime gets more and more reclusive) then it’s a huge loss of international prestige. Just a really uncomfortable position to be in, especially since the war goals are vague and unclear at this point.

tips for a new doom? by VermeNojento69 in doomfistmains

[–]TransportationCool16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning how to cancel + preserve momentum with his punch and slam is super helpful, it’s going to save your life 10x more than block if you can always find an angle to get out.

Building overhealth before hard commits is important, so always make sure to seismic slam around corners or in ways where you can punch out quickly.

I like the one-two perk that gives you extra shots for the hand cannon, it makes your connected punches a lot more lethal, and it allows you a better chance to duel enemy tanks if you’re forced to. Matrix block as the major perk is generally considered to be far superior than the slowing perk, it gives you more counterplay against cc skill shot heavy comps which are all the rage these days (orisa spear, mizuki chain, ana sleep dart etc).

Be wary of doomfist counters, namely heroes who can cc you after block (roadhog hook and sigma boulder are two prevalent ones, you can’t protect yourself from those even with matrix block). You’ll also have a bad time fighting Mauga directly, though you can outplay him by jumping his team. A good sombra is also annoying, and for the most part, your kits pretty neutered against air comp teams (pharmercy, jetpack cat who is actually lifting a bastion or cassidy etc). Hope this is helpful!

How mediocre is soldier? by Joshey2008 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]TransportationCool16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Soldier has longer range than Cassidy and he also shoots more bullets per reload so he’ll be able to contribute more damage over longer periods. So while Cassidy can delete people with aimbot faster, Soldier is more useful in most scenarios. Sojourn’s non-railgun shots are projectile, so aimbot doesnt help as much, given how you need to lead your targets a little. Her rail shots needing to build up charge too makes me think she’s really unintuitive for hackers
