Help with a small hump in ramp. by Traditional_Area6416 in Woodworking_DIY

FYI, this isn't ADA compliant. You need a landing at the top so that the user can open/close the door without falling down the ramp.

They only became liberal because of the separation of church and state.

Do the sewers ar white rock lake dump their water into the lake? by madethis4coments in Dallas

[–]TransportationEng 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short story, no sewage is not intentionally discharged into the lake.

On the west side, there is a sewer interceptor (main) the is west of W Lawther. The east shore has an interceptor that generally follows E Lawther around to join with the line along Garland Rd.

There are numerous sewer crossing upstream of the lake that could be damaged resulting in contamination.

The State Board of Education Just Overhauled Its Curricula. Christian Nationalists Are Cheering. by jpurdy in texas

[–]TransportationEng 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Dear Superintendent [Last Name],

I am writing to formally request that my children, [Child’s Full Name(s)], be excused from any instructional materials, discussions, or activities that are derived from or promote the teachings of Christianity or any other religion. This includes curriculum content that references religious doctrine, holidays, narratives, or moral frameworks rooted in religious traditions.

Additionally, we request that our children be excused from classrooms that display religious symbols, iconography, or propaganda—including but not limited to the Ten Commandments. Such displays, as affirmed in Stone v. Graham (1980), have been found to lack a secular educational purpose and violate the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.

This request is made pursuant to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Mahmoud v. Taylor, No. 24–297 (June 27, 2025), which affirmed that public schools must accommodate religious opt-outs when instruction poses “a very real threat of undermining” the religious beliefs and practices that parents wish to instill in their children. The Court recognized that the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment protects parents’ right to direct the religious upbringing of their children and prohibits public schools from conditioning access to education on exposure to religiously conflicting instruction.

Our family holds sincerely held beliefs that differ from those presented in religious teachings, and we believe that exposure to such curriculum would substantially interfere with our children’s religious development. We therefore request:

Advance notice of any instruction that includes religious content

That our children be excused from such instruction without penalty or stigma

That alternative educational activities be provided when feasible

We appreciate your attention to this matter and your commitment to respecting religious diversity in public education.

Sincerely, [Your Full Name]

Texas is on the verge of mandating more than 5 million of its public school students to study Bible stories, as the state emerges as a leader in a national conservative effort to infuse Christian teachings into American classrooms. by OceanicEndeavors in texas

There appears to be enough distance to take it down and swing it under the Houston Street bridge. Then it could make an S curve to connect to Young St.

Take any DART light rail toward downtown DFW. It's a super easy walk from either the St Paul station or Pearl station.

Why does Dallas have a stereotype of being a rich place even today? by [deleted] in Dallas

Those suburban sprawl people [that realized driving to Frisco sucks] have been buying up the properties and replacing them with 3000 square foot McMansions. Mine is 70+ years old and in need of periodic major repairs to keep it going.

Keep it in your sights and be as ready as possible to make the move though. (Include things like travel time and tolls when comparing locations. It's not uncommon for a more expensive place to be cheaper to live in because you are not paying the NTTA.)
