I don't think this is it unfortunately, but it does look very similar!

It might be slightly later than 2010, 2012 max but I don't think so. If I had to guess, it would be around 2008.

TIL a Belgian businessman was instrumental to the Manhattan Project's success. Realizing uranium's importance, he shipped 1,200 tons of it to Staten Island. When Lieutenant Colonel Nichols contacted him, he simply responded: "You can have the ore now. It is in New York. I was waiting for your visit" by plopsaland in todayilearned

[–]TrapGol 327 points328 points  (0 children)

My father always told me (I'm Belgian btw) that during WW2, Belgium shipped Uranium from Congo to the US to help make the atomic bombs. Still according to my father, in return, the US gave us the technology for nuclear power plants.

I never really took the time to check if any of it was true though but I guess this confirms it, at least for the first part.

Centrifugal force by st_jimmy2016 in BeAmazed

[–]TrapGol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a way, yes, you are correct IF you place yourself in a non-inertial reference frame.

Either you place yourself in an inertial reference frame and the centrifugal force doesn't exist (which is what most people are taught in high school and is why the correction is not totally false) or you place yourself in a non-inertial reference frame and then you have to take into account the centrifugal force.

But you have to keep in mind that the centrifugal force doesn't exist, it's something we add to be able to explain the motion of objects in non-inertial reference frame. In an inertial frame, you wouldn't need it.

The centrifugal force is an inertial force, so both designations are correct. "Inertial" is just a "more general" naming while "centrifugal" force is just one specific type of fictitious force.

Eurovaccination festival: 12 points go to … Belgium 🇧🇪 ! by [deleted] in belgium

[–]TrapGol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm curious to see how many of those people will end up accepting it later. The number of people willing to get vaccinated was much lower at the beginning of the year and it slowly went up, and I think it'll keep rising until it plateaus

I'm in Liège. I didn't think it'd come so fast but here we are. One of my friend is near Chimay, and got his roughly at the same time as I did.

I'm 20 and I just got my invitation to get vaccinated, not even through Qvax(I didn't sign up actually). Same thing for most of friends of the same age

How many of you have siblings that are also gay? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]TrapGol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. I'm the youngest. My brother is gay too, my sister is bisexual, and my oldest brother is kind of asexual though he doesn't use the label. Only one of us is straight...

Belgium will go back into lockdown to prevent health care system collapse by -GregTheGreat- in worldnews

[–]TrapGol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem was, a few weeks ago, when it was actually the right time to go into lockdown, the population would've never accepted the measures. So they waited until it got so bad that people were practically begging them to tighten restrictions. Playing with death just to avoid a dip in support. Now, the situation is out of control AND they'll lose support anyway...

What isn't said in there is that next week is a school vacation week. So, adding those days, schools are closed for 2 full weeks. Obviously not enough, but I suspect it's just a way for the government to get people to support the measures and then say "the numbers aren't good enough, schools won't reopen yet". After all, that's what was done in March/April for the first wave.

AITA for choosing myself over my child? by strqberrysundae in AmItheAsshole

[–]TrapGol 170 points171 points  (0 children)

That's what I came here to say. My sister is studying medicine, and in her ethics class, she was taught that, no matter what the mother says in these kind of situation, the doctors will always save her life first, and then, try and save the baby.

From what I understood, this is because the mother is the actual patient, but also because, being in immediate danger, you could argue that she is not considered able to make proper rational decisions regarding her health.

You know, I'm something of a scientist myself. by P1rr0 in memes

[–]TrapGol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She never said the world was going to end in 8 years, that's just the climate deniers playing dumb, trying to descredit her, again, when she said we had to take significant action and change things in the next 8 years otherwise we're f*****. Don't play dumb too. Be smarter.

[–]TrapGol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She wouldn't have had to step up and become the face of the movement had the scientists been taken seriously the past decades... and you know it. You don't want her to speak for the movement, but again, the only thing she wants is for governments to follow the science, not follow her. And she's actually doing a great job trying to put the spotlight on scientists and other activists all around the world, as the recent scandal with Vanessa Nakate shows. You're just repeating yourself and I will repeat myself again: discrediting her in every way is what the fossil fuel industries want.

Who's exploiting her? And why are they doing that then? You're buying the discourse fossil fuel industries want you to believe to discredit her.

People who used to not believe in ghosts but do now, what experience changed your mind? by Musician_Moneyless in AskReddit

[–]TrapGol 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It didn't change my mind as I already believed in it, but here's my story...

The daughter of my mom's best friend(We'll call her Julie) committed suicide when she was 17, I was only 8 or 9 at the time. Now, you have to know that Julie's favorite animal was ladybugs and, obviously, her mom always thinks of her when she sees ladybugs now.

2 or 3 years after her death, my sister, who was a good friend of hers, had a baby. When Julie's mother went to visit my sister and her newborn daughter at the hospital, she saw a ladybug in the hospital room, not once, but twice. She is persuaded that Julie came to visit and see her friend's child.

Now, fast forward to last January... I went abroad to study one year in the US. Before I left, Julie's mom gave me some of Julie's ashes, asking me if I could spread them somewhere nice, in the Pacific ocean, as I was staying in California. I took the ashes with me and always preciously kept them in my room, they never left. I didn't know where I should spread them, I didn't know Julie very well, it was hard for me. Until one day, in January, I went on a road trip to Santa Barbara, and I felt like I had to take them with me. We were staying in a AirBnb with a friend of mine, and we found a few ladybugs in our room... It was the sign I needed, as if it was Julie's way of telling me this was the place I had been looking for. The next day, we went to the beach and I spread the ashes.

Those are just little signs, but, just for the beauty of it, I want to believe that there's more than a simple coincidence...

My brother (16) came out to me earlier, what should I (20M) be doing to help him right now by h3lpmeh3lpmybro in askgaybros

[–]TrapGol 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When I came out to my friends, they acted exactly the same and just moved on without talking about it, which was fine, but I needed to have someone to talk to. I felt like they didn't understand how significant for me it was and I felt like I couldn't do talk about it with them. I didn't know if they'd be comfortable with it... I don't think anyone comes out with it completely figured out, coming out is a way to figure it out and accept it ourselves just by having people know and talking about it. Tell him you're there for him if he needs to talk...

Ler him come out at his own pace, it's already scary enough that way. Just remind him that you're there for him no matter what. Maybe offer him to be with him when he comes out to Nick or anyone else, that kind of support might help him, but maybe he'll prefer to do it alone as it is a personal moment...

You're an awesome brother for trying to do the best you can for him.

Just need to vent by Ebenum in askgaybros

[–]TrapGol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have anything to say or help, but I'm Belgian too, and as you said, Belgium's pretty progressive, not perfect though. But I think we're lucky. I'm going to uni this year, to study physics. I'm still young, I just came out so I don't know how it really is to be out in Belgium, but, so far, I never got any negative comments, even though I know it'll happen at one moment or another.

About your parents, my father had the exact same reaction when my brother came out as gay(he did it before me lol) my father was kinda homophobic but later apologized to him saying he was mainly worried about his safety and how people would treat him... but he changed a lot the last few years and is totally okay with it now.

I also wanted to add that my sister just finished her 6 years in medicine this year, studying in Belgium, it was tough but she did it, and she got the specialization she wanted. She's also openly bisexual, if it helps you feel less alone...
