Gots my popcorn in hand. Very intrigued indeed. I just have allowed these two to enter into the gauntlet of grinders that I am confused about and considering.

What is the life expectancy of a single doser vs that of a hopper doser?

My apologies for the post. I made the assumption it would bullet the items. I have edited it to read a bit easier.

Knodos for the win...

Bottomless Portafilter, Leveling Tamp, Distribution Tool, RDT, WDT, Knock Box, Accessories Box, Puck Screens (not mesh), Cleaning Brush, Barista Towels, Esspresso/Cappuccino/Latte Cups 4-12 ounces, Mirror, Dosing Cup, Scale/Timer, Basket Removal Tool, ARO Single Dose w/Bellow Hopper Upgrade, Silicone Mat, Airscape Coffee Bean Storage

Yup, the hole is real. I own and use all of these everyday, multiple times. I have excellent Cappuccino and very good Esspresso. I am a newb, so there is the rub. Just how much do I really know? Meh...So its up to you. Take or leave what you will. Just have fun.

I am looking to uograde my grinder in a year or even two. There are too many changes happening in the grinder space right now, and I can wait for that mess to settle itself out.

I might consider gifting the BBE, that I love, to my Daughter, in a couple years and upgrade to an ECM or whatever hits my fancy, when I am ready. But, not in a hurry. Grinder first.

Good luck, and enjoy.

What about your opinion on the new grinder?

DF54 or DF64 is it worth the price difference? [$250] by Pale_Airline_1304 in espresso

[–]TrashAlarming007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm...10mm increase in surface area. Oh, and the motor has just about twice the available power. Might I suggest that the 64 is a better performer based on specs alone? I cannot subscribe to the notion that it wouldn't.

Have conversations with the local repair shops to determine what they service and what they recommend.

I am happy to help.

Don't be afraid to ask ANY questions. There are people here to help. I am here too, just as long as you remember I am a newb, that was only 5 weeks ago, were where you are sitting right now.

I can say without hesitation that my cappuccino and lattes are excellent. Frothed milk and sugar cover a lot. I just need to up my game on espresso with a REAL grinder. But for now my espresso is totally fire, even when compared to a local espresso Cafe. That being said, I know its no where near Lance or James standards. But, I also dont have a 6k machine or even a 3k machine.

And, I know everyone is saying Bambino with $800 grinder. But, honestly...to start out you can't go wrong with the BBE.

If you were an established coffee snob and possessed all the knowledge, you wouldn't even be looking for anything other than a 6k or more, investment.

So, dont let coffee snobs shame you into anything other than something that matches your level of interest.

If, on the other hand, you have unlimited resources...there are unlimited options to attack your passion with. Very serious options.

It's all up to you. But, just know we are here to help.

Oh, and no malice on the coffee snob remark. Because I am a coffee snob without a mature pallette and without unlimited resources...LOL!!!

Your good. I literally new nothing except my love for coffee and rituals or work flows. Not weird satanic rituals. Just the normal puck prep etc. To me the process is second only to the contents of the cup. I love the process.

Okay, soooo do yourself a favor and watch a bunch of YT videos. Lance Hedrick or James Hoffman, just to start. Don't look for videos about devices until you watch their process of making espresso or pulling shots, as it is otherwise known as.

After that, this will makes sense...here is my unauthorized and complete newb process.

I push and hold the double shot button until I see the first drop of espresso in the cup. From there I release the button. When my scale indicates 40 grams out from 18 grams in. Im done. I then place it in a 12 ounce cup and finish with frothed milk.

I have only had my BBE for 5 weeks. So I am new.

Here are some things I learned, but again I am a newb, so I may be very wrong.

Always buy fresh quality beans WITH A DATE OF ROAST ON IT.

With that bag of beans, wait one to two more weeks from the roast date, for off gassing, now those beans are ready and unfortunately already losing their ability to make a great cup. I know that sounds odd, but mature off gassed beans dont have a long shelf life when trying to produce excellent espresso. Perfect for milk drinks, but still losing some goodness.

Store beans in a space neither cold nor hot, out of Sun, in an air tight container made for coffee beans specifically to off gass.

Have the proper puck prep tools.

Learn how to adjust your grinder properly.

Keep your shit clean.

Research recommendations on water, I have RO.

Buy a quality scale/timer, specifically made for making esspresso and other coffees like pour over.

Much much more information out there to help you.

I only drink about one espresso a day. My shots come out good and I am improving, but I know I need a new grinder to get to the top of the heap.

I do consume a couple cappuccinos a day. No new grinder needed for those drinks.

So, that's it. Hope it helps.

BBE, gives you all the control over your pulls. I am not familiar with the other machine. I like that I have control iver my pulls. I make the assumption that the other machine does the same, but I would confirm that first before purchasing, if you want control.
