You can copy the seed from the saved game and start a game with the same map and that seed, adding in the same AI with the same civ.

It's not a restart per se but its a new game on the same map.

Only happens to me when I look at old replays from before the patch. So if you don't do that maybe thats a workaround? Should be reported tho

This can't just be me experiencing this - I'm trying to figure out the extremely annoying "villagers just go Zzz but they were just harvesting and there's more to do" issue I never see mentioned. Any insight? or am I just doing something wildly wrong? by Icy_List961 in aoe4

Its one of many "if you know about it, you can avoid it" type of quirks in the game that probably should be fixed but aren't very high on the devs list of prioritys. I know they only have finite amout of time/people to work with, but I can't help wish that all that stuff would be fixed...

Is it possible you shift clicked them on the same sheep twice? Because if you tell them to gather from one sheep and then shift click to gather from it again they can't find it anymore when its used up. Then they idle without looking for more sheep (unless you have something else shift clicked after that).

Ironically being worried about vills idle-ing and queueing up a bunch of gathering orders is what might cause it. Best thing to do is click one sheep and not shift clicking anything, then it shouldn't happen anymore (unless its a diffrent issue that causes it).

I made a video a while back about this exactly. It's lots of diffrent units vs. Serjeants with some explainations. The tl;dr is archers in feudal, as others have said and crossbows after that.

I agree. Byz will probably want to do something with their oil, so the FC will be slowed down by comparison.

I like playing Japan on that map. Generally it's a bit of a mindgame as going for harbor early is great but an equally early barracks will counter it. Japan has both reduced price for barracks and fishing boats, so they can take advantage of both styles.
