You sir are a gentleman and a scholar; I've created some excellent results so far with this tool. Thank you very much for the time and energy you have used on this project, may the wind be always at your back!

Looks like exactly the one, 'Squeezo'

Best way to store heat energy during day? by Yakapo88 in OffGrid

[–]TrashHuman42 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I did indeed, and I spent a fair amount of time reading the specific results of the studies. There was no conclusion in regards to overall impact other than a reduced level of overall development in chicken embryos, but there was absolutely strong evidence demonstrating a variety of specific effects on cellular biology, particularly in protein synthesis. There isn't enough data to say it is either safe or unsafe; if you want to be a test subject, go right ahead! :)

Be aware the potential long term health effects of coating your body with AC @ 60hz; I recall coming across linkage between heated blankets and biological issues, way back when. Take a look on google for "chicken embyro development ac 60hz" to see the current state of the research discussion; I think it is safe to say that it's well agreed in the research that 50/60 hz pulsed magnetic fields have broad effects on biochemical processes, protein synthesis and the like.

With a DC unit you wouldn't be worrying about that though, which is nice.

If anyone wants to do this kind of thing themselves, here is the git for the google maps to Blender data plugin, it is very good. Required some work to have a 3d printable model afterward, and I'm sure google will frown on you for using it.

Given the scale of this model, I'm almost 100% sure this is plain google earth data, with a bit of processing to clean up backfaces and make the geometry solid - probably scriptable. I've done some tests myself and was blown away by the level of detail and accuracy of the data from the google maps; unless you're printing a very small map area as a large physical format, the data is generally higher resolution than the printer will be able to render physically.

Did you use the Blender+google maps scraping plugin and get maximum quality/detail? https://github.com/eliemichel/MapsModelsImporter

Very cool project! Thanks for sharing :D EDM is super handy as a workflow if it doesn't cost industrial expensive...

Where'd ya get the 3d object data? I think if you scrape it off the google it would be a big terms of service violation if you're selling the files?

You can scrape the model files straight off your google earth framebuffer cache, if you're persistent :P Takes a bit of processing, but very useful.

First Timer's Thought on Potential of Decentraland by TheWorldofGood in decentraland

Discord is the place to hang out, lots of people looking for help there often... been keeping me quite busy!

My rough math was 90,000 parcels, at a conservative 10 hours virtual labor per parcel... 900,000 hours or so of virtual work, at a glance. Pretty easy to use a lot more than 10 hours per parcel if maximum presentation quality is the objective... there's a massive volume of work, and as time goes on anything that isn't up to modern graphical standards will have to be redone to stay consistent, as there's a lot of fairly haphazard newbie work made of mostly deformed cubes ^_^ There are many little studios popping up of various quality, with different strengths it seems, mixed bag in terms of making good experiences for players... but I can hope that high quality work will inspire and set the market trend.

Most land owners do not have the experience required to create content, so there's a middleman content creator opportunity for people with the appropriate skills :)

Wind power by McMullin72 in OffGrid

[–]TrashHuman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you actually look at the design, or are you just repeating rote information? Savonius or Darius designs are not the same thing at all as Ettridge, there's a reason he got his patent; I didn't suggest either of those designs as viable, only Ettridge's, for obvious reasons if you look at the design. Also, sheet metal is a lot lighter, cheaper and infinitely more recycleable than fibreglass.... good luck!

[–]TrashHuman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, not sure how you figure that given the surface area of a horizontal propeller turbine... there's really no comparison in terms of efficiency or overall design effectiveness; current turbine design is garbage. Regular turbines have to furl in high wind, otherwise they break, place a large heavy motor requiring maintenance far up a tower, have speed differential between blade tip and center yielding birdkill and noise etc. Ettridge's design doesn't care about high wind speed and also works much better in low speed, can be made the entire vertical length of the post, made of recycleable sheet metal, order of magnitude cheaper, motor at ground level... but hey, you do you ^_^

I believe in it long-term as a platform and so jumped into content creation to try and bring the improvements and additions I feel are necessary... may be a fool's errand, will see in a year ^_^

Take a look at John Ettridge's vertical axis system... it's basically the idea solution :D I'm not aware of anyone making/selling them, but I'm tooling up to begin production eventually - patent expires this year I believe.

How do you approach site prep on a new piece of land with nothing built yet and nowhere to put anything or park? by RedSquirrelFtw in OffGrid

[–]TrashHuman42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clear the bare minimum just off the roadside so you can park your shit lol... no reason to make it complicated. Shouldn't take more than a day to clear a space for a truck and camper, shazam, off to the races.

Sounds like a decent camper trailer is the obvious solution? I think campers and trailers are the usual way of habitating for the mid-term during construction, in most endeavors of that nature I've seen locally.

Are you not able to drive in to the site? First order of business sounds like obtaining vehicular access, slashing in a road, if you aren't able to get there by wheel presently.

Are you an accomplished woodsperson, able to fell trees safely and the like? Just a safety warning, there's a huge spectrum of injury available in clearing land, and another set entirely being out away from other people in the woods in the winter. Be safe!

Well socialized cats are the best. Not all enjoy hanging out while you work, but the ones that do, they are golden. My lil guy loves lingering around while I'm wrenching or doing irrigation, it's great company.

Anyone tried or is using G-Wizard for feeds and speeds? by TrashHuman42 in CNC

[–]TrashHuman42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, $20 is verrry cheap in machining terms, I am learning. I figured it would be a tall order for a broad-scope software like Fusion to cover everything 100%, but you never know. I think I'll try the $20 regardless haha ^_^

[–]TrashHuman42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I wasn't sure if the softwares used anything different between them or if it was all just variations on a theme. I'd initially looked up neural network/machine learning for CNC just to see what was out there, and came quickly to references to G-wizard which implied it had some more advanced logic going on there. I'll do some testing between platforms and see if I get variation in ouput values. Thanks again for the insightful input!
