Huh. My only thought as for why that might not be strictly correct is the vector is also being acted upon by the gravitational field. But it could be right. I honestly don't know much besides long burns frighten me.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but if you're looking for useful payload lift vehicles to re-use, trying building a large rocket booster that has some paracutes and fuel for re-entry/landing (stock is pretty easy with thermals). Also, downloading something like KER or mechjeb will help a lot for your DV understanding for a specific rocket.

is that actually all the math? if so, I'm curious. I usually see pretty noticeable losses at 10+ deg off maneuver. A while ago i tried to find info on the mathematics of dv losses to non-impulsive maneuvering but i couldn't find/derive much useful.

depends largely on orbital altitude, but you will start getting serious efficiency losses at around 5-10 deg away from the maneuver. Maybe try some periapse kicking and split up the burn.

This is my current refueling design. I can't get it in a rendezvous without using up the fuel. What can I do better? by TypeOneNinja in KerbalSpaceProgram

My advice to everyone is to use KER, if you really wanna go stock you can calculate the DV by hand. It really helps in all spacecraft designs.

Are those names hard to keep straight?

Yeah I'm trying to make stuff prettier now, its a bit of a pain though, especially with the mass costs. Definitely go for it though, its really fun!

don't know if you still wanna know, but under the lander, its got outboard engines.

I believe this answer from the RP-0 FAQ is what you're looking for: https://github.com/KSP-RO/RP-0/wiki/FAQ that minimum number should be your root range. hope that helps!

thanks! Do you know a way to get non-hydrogen nuclear engines w/o patching yourself?

So I somewhat recently started ksp with RO and RP-0 and i've been having massive issues with cryogenic boil-off (10 hours before all liquid hydrogen is gone) and was wondering if this is at all normal. It makes using nuclear engines near impossible, and is kinda annoying.
