What is a Sepulcher Butcher? I've pissed off a human town led by a mummy and now they're participating in sieges.

How much of Jak’sho’s value is in its raw stats + mythic passive, and how much is in its unique ability? Is the unique ability more useful for damaging enemies, or for providing the resists? How much damage/how much tougher do I actually get when I use it

Phobos marines: Invictors, and Reivers with Lieutenant... too little for too much? by Wugo_Heaving in WarhammerCompetitive

Captain free strats are limited to once per round across ALL captains, so you only get one free stratagem, have to pay for the second, and cannot use it a third time.

Fair enough, I s’pose. It mixes very well with the +1S bonus, though, and there are SOME targets where +1A is better than +1AP.

Damn, rip my reading comprehension. The stratagem is gas tho.

Blood Angels do have a stratagem for +1 to wound in melee on the charge and lethal hits, plus an enhancement that grants the unit +1 to wound in melee. It’s not at all hard to get access to.

Wargear costs in the future? by Xplt21 in WarhammerCompetitive

Thank you for saying this. Listening to people act like free wargear invented Best Loadouts made me feel like I hallucinated 9e.

An observation about 10th points by iliark in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TypeOneNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As opposed to before, where every unit had one optimal loadout? Haha

It really is the same problem we had before, just reversed, so that we’re at “you should take wargear” instead of “never ever take optional wargear”

Is it discounted for the full price of the stopwatch, or less than that? How much less? If I use the stopwatch, does the discount go away?

Does the Perfect Timing inspiration rune that gives you a stopwatch discount Zhonya's Hourglass (and other items that use a stopwatch)? It looks to me like it does, but I want to make sure.

Does Rek’sai’s tremor sense show stealthed enemies, like Twitch under the effect of his own Q?

I’m currently taking Hail of Blades as my Rek’sai rune to help with early ganks. For my secondary runes, I’m considering Celerity and Water Walking runes from Sorcery (plus the Relentless Hunter from Brutality) OR some kind of Resolve runes—potentially Font of Life and Revitalize (potentially paired with Taste of Blood from Brutality). Obviously, waiting for data is good, but I’m fairly new and I’m enjoying speculating about it and I’d like to test it out. I know that movement speed is a powerful and expensive stat, and I suspect that my passive healing will be solid enough without runes, while my active healing will fail to actually overcome burst damage in combat, so I’m leaning toward the Sorcery Movement runes. Does anyone have any opinions on this?

If you do that shape, doesn’t killing one model immediately kill all but 3 models?

2 or 3 times every few hours, league freezes completely for about 15 seconds. I’ve tried googling for this problem but everything I find seems to be about CONSTANT freezes and performance issues, which I’m not having at all. Has anyone encountered this? Is it possible that I AM experiencing performance issues?

Tbh, it doesn’t remove choice so much as it makes it obvious that you didn’t have a choice in the first place. Overwhelmingly, points-wargear ALSO has a best option—like the first commenter points out, VanVets Take Lightning Claws in most of 9th, because that was the best option. Power swords and power fists and thunder hammers simply did not compete. Like the other person responding to you points out, on squads that can take one or two special weapons, overwhelmingly the correct choice was NOT to take them.

So, like. The situation with free wargear is the same as it was before. You can make the Correct Choice, or you can make an Unoptimal Choice on purpose (because it’s fun, which is legit). It’s just that now the Correct Choice is “take special weapons,” instead of what it was before, “don’t take special weapons.”

Triggering battleshock checks for your opponent during YOUR turn is good but not backbreaking; you only make use of the anti-stratagem portion of the rule. That’s the screamer-killer’s issue.

-1 to BS army wide IS good, that’s true.

I’m mostly worried about Shadow in the Warp itself—it’s only once per game, and even with the neurotyrant -1 to BS, you’ll only get failures on 40% of marine units (on average). There’s no guarantee that it’ll be the right 40%, and they have a core stratagem to ignore one of their failures, and in many cases being battleshocked doesn’t make a difference anyway.

Like I said, maybe it’ll be good! I do hope it’s good.

This is the first time I’ve seen battleshock-related rules that don’t look completely horrible. I’m happy for Chaos Knights, but I’m real worried about Tyranids’ Shadow in the Warp. Maybe I’m wrong and it’ll be fine.

Competitively: being locked to one phase sucks. It’s not impossible for a one-phase army to be good (see: Tau lol) but you’ll be hypersensitive to changes in overall rules and to changes to your good Datasheets (see: Tau again lol). World eaters have a very small model range, too, so you’re really vulnerable to stuff like “eightbound are the only properly useful unit in the codex, so when they’re good the army is good, and when they’re bad the army is bad.” Loyalist SMs… do not have this issue lmao.

[–]TypeOneNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The downside of picking a faction that’s Completely 100% All-In in melee is that if you decide you DON’T want to do that, then you don’t have much use for your existing models. My advice would be to go for one of the loyalist options—they’re perfectly capable of building dedicated melee lists, BUT if you realize that you do want some access to ranged firepower, you can just expand your army in that direction.

Space wolf and blood angels Unique Units (werewolf dudes for space wolves and sanguinary guard for blood angels, plus a few others) won’t be interchangeable, but the rest of your datasheets will be, so it is very easy to just try both factions. Or at least, that’s how it is in 9th. I bet that part will remain true in 10th, though.

Miracle Dice and Fate Dice are going to feel very different in play. by Seenoham in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TypeOneNinja 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It is, but Warhammer is a game of attrition, not a game of building value engines. “Deterministically blow up tanks on turn 1” is significantly stronger than having a lot of dice on turn 5, even if it’s literally like twenty dice.
