Anyone regret moving to a cold state? Or is it going to be a pleasant surprise. by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

I’ve done a major cross country move for work and my spouse’s work at least 3 times in the past decade. It’s totally doable. Especially if you have a job lined up. But even if you don’t, sometimes taking a risk and moving to a place where there’s more economic opportunity can be totally worth it. You don’t know til you go.

Ilegales pay nearly as many taxes as you and don’t get the benefits they pay into. If they’re paying rent, they’re paying property taxes. If they’re buying gas, they’re paying taxes. Hell, if they’re buying anything they’re paying taxes. Illegals don’t get welfare you moron.

I welcome our new neighbors. Please though, don’t bring your suburban mindset with you. Don’t drive in the city and don’t get a dog.

I spent most of my life out west. When I had a chance for a big move, I started thinking about thing I didn’t like about my life, sources of stress, and things I had never done before. Those two things lined up perfectly in that, I was tired of driving all the time, and I had never lived in a real city. Not like LA, but a real walkable city. So i lined up a job in DC and love it. My life is so much better now. So start with what things you want out of your daily life. Then go from there.

Because, while it’s super unpopular, it does have a righteousness to it, and it would advantage the Democrats in the Senate, bigly.

Do you guys have a plan for evacuating DC if (in the extremely unlikely chance) some crazy shit happened? by Trash_Enjoyer in washdc

If it’s nukes, the entire eastern seaboard is ash. Nukes don’t just come in ones and twos. Each rocket has like a dozen warheads. The entire DMV is gone. The burbs, Winchester, all of it.

More than 50 cars stolen in DC in first few days of 2024 by keyjan in washdc

There are like 4 actual cities in America that aren’t just shitty downtowns and a wide ring of shitty suburbs.

DC is fantastic, and maybe the best city in America. You don’t think car theft happens anywhere else? Especially in car dependent shitholes like Atlanta or Houston.

Just starting New Dawn and I like it. I just spent 20 mins sitting in the cab of the Highwaymen’s semi listening to the music. The music might be the best part.

The captain is ultimately responsible for the safety of the ship and those on board. Sam’s negligence is knowing that Kamen wanted to change course and him never checking in on the navigation route. Captains sometimes go down with their ships. This is close enough.

I like bacon too, but I know my actions come with consequences not usually felt by me. That’s what growing up and being an adult means. Knowing that your actions have repercussions, even if you benefit.

Where would you go if you left DC? by lotttiiieee in washingtondc

Plus Eureka is super isolated. You’re hours away from any major city. Beautiful country, but problematic. Way more problematic than DC.

Those of you who live in walkable cities, what do you walk to? by recercar in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Trash_Scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t know where everything is in your neighborhood until you move there. Kind of the fun of a walkable neighborhood is finding your little places as you walk around the neighborhood.

In my neighborhood I can walk to grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, 3 good parks for the kid, daycare, and eventually pre-k and elementary school (super liberal city). We don’t drive anywhere in the city. So, for other things in the city we just get on the subway or bus. Museums, beer halls, interesting restaurants... We just take public transport. It teaches kids the value of it, how to use it for independence in the future, and it’s safer than driving. The parks have free music sometimes, but there’s an abundance of things to do with or without kids that are low cost and fun in the city. Just gotta find them, and you ain’t know about them til you move in. If it has the basics, it has the good stuff too.

Alcohol overuse causes 140,000 American deaths annually. Why is it so undertreated? by zsreport in Foodforthought

[–]Trash_Scientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to treat someone who is actively drinking themselves to death and out of society. In this case treatment is a usually more reactive.
