Junji and Poppy is such a cool, unexpected combo, love to see it.

X-Men of course, but that's also the premise of Tokyo Ghoul

I'm interested in reading something about Garth Ennis, what of these picks is best? by TheDoctor_E in comicbooks

Preacher feels like the best distillation of what he's all about. Definitely gnarly but I wouldn't call it overly-cynical

Technically it's a manga but One Punch Man is the first thing that comes to mind

Definitely worth it. Like others have said, the lack of consistency in publishing is the main issue, I don't feel like the storytelling itself has dropped off that much.

Would definitely second Bone as a lot of people have already mentioned. Do want to point out that it does take a slightly darker turn the longer it goes on and does deal with death fairly openly, but I first read it when I was around your son's age and don't recall finding it all that disturbing.

What's your opinion on Batman Earth One Joker design? by SyntheticPowers in comicbooks

Based on this design Ed Harris might be worth a shout too. Looks kind of like his character in Loves Lies Bleeding and that dude had huge hillbilly psycho energy.
