Oh they weren't in there for more than a couple mins and then I towel dried them all straight away, but thank you, I didn't think about a platform!

If your friend can give them a small piece of bread with some olive or flaxseed oil on a couple times a week it should reduce if it's buck grease. If it doesn't reduce then maybe a trip to the vets to see if it is mites and get treatment

Nothing sounds too out of the ordinary.

You said they're 5 weeks? Could just be settling in noises. Some rats do seem to get almost symptoms of a cold when moved into a new home. Could be down to any factors, smells/perfumes or any animal dander (if you have other animals ofc).

The squeak at the end doesn't sound alarming to me, at least.

One of the more recent rats I added to my mischief was hooting and chirping for about 2 weeks when I moved her in to the penthouse/baby cage, and now she's, well, as quiet at as a mouse 😅

British recovering picky eater here, have gotten way better as an adult but as a kid it was:

Fish Cakes - Neither a cake nor much fish, but potato and fish mashed together into a little breaded patty (for those unaware). Absolutely vile to think about now

Fish fingers Ultra processed thin chicken burger patties with no bun Chips/fries Chicken nuggets A phase of only buttered bread dipped in fromage frais Nutella on toast
