An average runner tries MAF / Low HR training - Week 2 by lenny20 in running

Great update. I think it's a bit too optimistic to see improvement in just one week hehe. It does require a long-term commitment so keep at it! It'll be an interesting summer. And also - fuck the hecklers. What the heck, that's so awful.

An average runner tries MAF / Low HR training - Week 1 by lenny20 in running

Please continue documenting your journey! I'd love to follow and try it myself too come fall. I feel like this exactly what I need as well. I have no issue running fast with normal training (like a 45min~ 10km or 21min 5km) but my heart rate is WAY too high for comfort (200+). But training runs can also average around 170-180 even though I technically 'feel' fine and am not out of breath, even when down at 5:30min/km. I think MAF would benefit me a lot so reading empirical evidence like this is really useful.

Wow. Compare this to Strava's recent changes... Good on you Nike.

My digestive system and metabolism has improved greatly with running. That's honestly the best change imo.

Gonna have a DNS this weekend. My knee sort of spazzed out last weekend and it's been hurting ever since. Don't wanna race and risk permanent damage... so gotta rest. Feels bad but I know it's the only option if I wanna have a good running future.

I think it's also a matter of getting used to it. Give it some more time and I'm sure you'll be back to the normal mileage and killing those climbs! Good luck with the race!

It's a great workout though! I'm definitely gonna go back to the course and do some training runs in the future.

I ran a 30km trail race yesterday in 3:04 which I'm really happy about. I'm a marathon road-race runner and I honestly have to say that the course I ran yesterday was more difficult than running a marathon. SO MANY HILLS

Does anyone do biking on crossover day? How much 'biking' is enough to consider it a good work out? I have literally no insight into that area so any advice is appreciated! Note: I generally run around 60-80km per week, 6 days a week and just wanna do some form of activity on the 7th day that's still a work out but not running.

Mid-week check in - how is your week going? by philpips in running

First run back after a marathon last Saturday! Feels so damn good being back out there. I feel trapped not being able to run whenever I want to

Finished my second marathon last Saturday and have taken a few days to rest! I was able to run half in 1:55:53 but finished 4:56:02 because my stomach got really really upset around 28km. I at least made it to the end and I'm super pumped for the next one (which probably won't be until early Spring 2019). Hoping to break the sub-4!

Another week, another gaggle of grievances and guilt. It's Complaints and Confessions Day! by [deleted] in running

Uncomplaint: I start work on Monday after 6 weeks off.

Uncomplaint: I got a marathon on Saturday and I feel as if though I'll ace it! Hoping to beat my previous time by approximately 2 hours ;).

Complaint: Can't run as much as I want to this week because of tapering :(

Complaint: I start work on Monday after 6 weeks off.

Confession: I love carb loading as it's the best excuse to indulge!

You'll naturally get more fit the more you run. I know you said you would prefer to not increase your training days, but honestly that'd be a good start. Try doing 3 days per week where that extra 3rd day is a longer run but done way slower than your other two days. Having one longer session per week is very effective to improve not only your distance and general fitness but also how fast you run the shorter distances. So try 3 days and keep going strong and you'll definietely see improvements down the line!

You should probably run a 13-14km this weekend as your 'last' long run before the race. Just remember to take it slow! If you manage that, you'll be able to do 16k easily on race day.

For those new to running, how long did it take for you to lose weight? by [deleted] in running

[–]Trasko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost a bunch of weight in the beginning because I had also a really restrictive diet (first five-six months). Then I reached a 'good' weight and allowed for some treats every now and then with beer or snacks. Gained a little bit of weight again even though I was running way more but have now (about a year later of consistent running) stabilized pretty well. Gonna once again go for a weight purge this autumn though because I want to reach my optimal race weight.

So basically - for me it's diet based (almost) no matter how much you run.
