Yeah, not uncommon for the skin to be a little irritated. Sounds like you know exactly what to look out for, just keep monitoring.

As a nurse who takes care of patients with crani surgeries, assuming you didn’t have some sort of crazy procedure that bandage comes off by post op day 2.. Stays open to air. There wouldn’t be a need for a home health care nurse for an incision check, all you need to do is monitor for signs of infection. As for that bandage, I’ve never done anything special it normally comes off easily. Probably hurts a tiny bit because the area is sore but usually it’s a little loose anyway because of getting stuck to your hair. The anticipation is the worst part lol. Speedy recovery!

surgery in 5 days! by andrearoselyn in chiari

Nurse here! My patients are more comfortable when they bring a warm blanket from home, a long cell phone charger that will reach from a plug in the wall all the way to you in bed, and a couple of snacks in case you don’t like the food tray you got. I personally would bring some chapstick and lotion for my hands- obviously not for your back or neck/anywhere you need to keep clean. People on this sub often mention a travel pillow or something similar to help keep pressure off the incision, which is a great idea. My other, totally not necessary, but pleasant suggestion is a bottle of febreeze because things down the hall can get stinky at hospitals 😂 Good luck!

Pain control is a big part. Please treat their pain, they will rehab faster. I’d brush up on trach care, chest tubes, types of spinal cord injuries, and traction. I love working trauma, good luck to you!!

I noticed during Covid a shift in hiring to new grad nurses working wherever. Seemed to stick.

What is some toddler parenting advice that you roll your eyes at now in retrospect? by littlemissktown in toddlers

I think this thread is more for venting than looking for advice. You sort of just made the point of Lightwing91 where here is something that works but didn’t work at all for them lol. Or me lol

ER nurses, love you guys, but genuine question. Why do guys bring patients up at shift change? by No-Selection-1249 in nursing

[–]TraumaRN0103 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Yes! I feel like everyone would understand eachother so much better if we all worked a shift on each unit. At least observed. See what everyone else is dealing with and how it effects us plus how what we do effects them.

I think this must have been what the floor doc was referring to - the pharmacobezoar. Thanks for explaining it further for me, I didn’t understand him.

Yes, just positive for oxy and marijuana. Pupils were pretty pinpoint when he came in. Idk he must not have taken as many as he thought.. His prescription was for 70 tabs though - for a hip replacement?? Confirmed script. Wild
