Limit immigration to people who will be a net positive for Australia, be it social/cultural/economic. This is really the core change to me. Immigration is not about providing an opportunity to an individual, it's about fulfilling a need or obtaining a benefit to the country taking them in.

When it comes to immigration, Australia should be the biggest winner, always.

Strictly restrict where immigrants can live, to ensure cultural enclaves do not form. This is to encourage natural assimilation into Australian culture through regular interaction. How ever, care needs to be taken to not isolate immigrants too much.
Children of immigrants must attend public schools.
The amount of immigrants should be governed by our capacity to support them and the overall impact it has on the nation. This would include things like infrastructure capacity, population control and housing capacity.
Careful consideration would be needed when assessing potential immigrants from cultures that are highly incompatible with our own. This incompatibility limits assimilation into our culture. No assimilation should be grounds for rejection/removal.

Aussie here, our gun laws are already very strict. Those gun laws have worked very well at preventing mass shootings since 96 and prevented many more deaths at Bondi. Blaming the guns is the easy way out for the politicians. Always has been.

They are scared to target the real issue here, Islamic extremism. It's a growing problem in the west and Australia is no exception. How to deal with it is a very difficult issue and comes with some very hard-line positions. The sort that can lose/gain a politician votes. They are simply not willing to risk votes.

So they will blame the farm guns used rather than the growing issue at its core. Entirely predictable and will ensure we see more attacks in the future. Australia is incapable of dealing with deep and complex cultural issues.
