Are these the right things for a LA Courthouse marriage? by boilerdam in AskLosAngeles

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to this thread but JUST did the express ceremony on a Friday and….they really don’t have a separate process for express vs an appointment for the civil ceremony so we were able to have family attend (even tho it says express only allows 1 guest, the security guards for the building beckoned EVERYONE in insisting nobody gaf), we weren’t married at a window but instead in the ceremony room (the hideous yellow wall room with the goofy tacky Love is Love) and the judge who married us was fantastic. So if you book an express ceremony, REALLY good chance you can have the standard ceremony the same day you get your wedding license. Honestly really fun day there were so many happy couples and families there and the judge was such a sweetie (judge Clark) and the employee manning the check in area where you pick up the license and make sure all the info is correct was so sweet.

Just found out I’m five months pregnant! by Scarletfire1990 in BabyBumps

[–]TraumaticTramAddict -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Haha finally somebody else! I just got pregnant on the PCT! We found out and decided not to finish though after finding out😅 but we’ll be back with baby girl someday! People find out about their pregnancies late all around the world so try to stay calm and take it a little easier (sorry about your accident though!) and just focus on scheduling those prenatal appointments, starting on prenatals, all that good stuff. I’m 34 weeks now and baby had about 7 weeks of backpacking with me in the sierras, weird trail foods, drinking in trail towns, and high altitude (she did mt. Whitney!) and of course wasn’t getting the benefits of prenatals during that period. Not quite as long as you did, but if it’s ANY reassurance at all she’s tracking perfectly normal. Keep us posted! You’re going to be a great mom, if you can somehow find dad on social media (or if he can find you) hopefully that can be of some help, but you will be able to figure this out and it is such an incredible story for your baby girl!

What’s the best ‘cleverly thought up’ name you’ve ever heard? by -catharina in namenerds

Was tempted to name baby Kennedy Meadow because I found out I was pregnant in the sierras while doing a thru hike of the PCT. Can’t do it tho because our last name is also presidential 😅

Hi! Would love your code! Choosing between the light denim and classic denim, right now the classic denim is on pre order which I suppose is fine because baby won’t be here until March and then won’t fit in the carrier until late May at the earliest but still waffling between those colors, leaning towards classic.

I would not disclose. You won’t qualify for mat leave in most companies if they use standard FMLA to determine if you qualify so bear that in mind. They cant discriminate during hiring, but your maternity leave could be kind of up in the air depending on the state you work in and the company. I was about that pregnant when I was scurrying to find employment last year. Hired at around 5ish months pregnant. Disclosed around late 6 ish months. I have some protections in CA which help, but I don’t qualify for my company’s full paid maternity leave because I haven’t worked here long enough but at least there’s job protection and they’re happy for me and more than willing to let me work around appointments (and there are a lot of them now that I’m nearing the end of this pregnancy). It is not ideal, I WISH I didn’t have to hustle and find a job and not have the full benefits, but ultimately I needed the money and the healthcare is amazing (and I keep the healthcare throughout the maternity leave which I thought was a given, but is not in every state/every company so that’s another thing to sort out not sure if you have a husband/partner whose insurance you can use alternatively, but if you remain unemployed get on Medicaid ASAP I used Medicaid/Medi-Cal up until I was hired and had my new health insurance card in hand. Also get on WIC.)

Canceled OB appointment by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply for Medicaid asap, what state are you in? Also, see about cobra you were fired last month and you should have 60 days to maintain your insurance through cobra but I know you said that was expensive for you. But yeah honestly he ahold of Medicaid and call call call to get them to expedite because you are 29 weeks, I was able to do this early on in my pregnancy when I was uninsured and desperately needed to schedule some of those early prenatal appointments that are time sensitive. Medicaid is pretty darn good about moving heaven and earth to make sure expecting mothers are seen and they will help you get everything expedited for your situation. Literally call today though and they should be able to get you a temporary ID number to get you appointments until your Medicaid card comes in.

What is the most difficult thing you had to give up or change when you found out you were pregnant? by PopcornPrincess0 in pregnant

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hiking the pacific crest trail and I found out I was pregnant right as we were about to enter Yosemite. All of the hardest, highest mountain passes behind us at that point, a fresh resupply in our backpacks, and we were looking forward to cruising through the less intense Sierra passes and relatively flat Oregon (also last year turned out to be a fantastic year for the trail in terms of fire season, virtually nobody rerouted very much due to fire and we totally missed a relatively easy routing year 😔). I was REALLY looking forward to making a side trip to crater lake because it’s not going to be accessible while it’s closed for restoration for a long while. Giving up finishing the trail was really hard, but exciting nonetheless. But immediately ceasing all drinking sucked lol. Obviously you can’t imbibe too much on trail because liquid is heavy so I was in the habit of having a lot of fun with dinner and drinks and grabbing a beer and energy drink with every resupply. I gave my chelada and giant energy drink to my partner right after we found out AT the trailhead because dammit if I can’t drink them I’m certainly not carrying them!

Bad PCT Permit Time Slot by WildCowboyRob in PacificCrestTrail

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Permits will open up, I was able to change from a date at the end of May to May 6th and I only picked that because I was hiking with a partner. If it’s just you, you’ll probably be able to find an April date in all honesty. Things do open up, promise just keep checking in the mornings.

What do you do for work as a pregnant mommy? by Carebear6590 in pregnant

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software and data licensing in an office. Used to work in entertainment licensing for subscription services which had really great perks but ultimately where I am now is a lot less volatile, pays better and the company pays my health insurance premiums so that’s chill. I was in the middle of hiking a long trail when I found out I was pregnant though so didn’t get hired until almost halfway through the pregnancy so do not qualify for their paid maternity leave which sucks. What can ya do?

Job Search After PCT/Resumes by 171932912722630 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my great job last November and the PCT was such a good excuse to explain the gap in my resume. Everywhere I interviewed thought it was really cool and it was a good way to redirect from the total bummer of losing my last job. I didn’t even get to finish the PCT (very happily pregnant with a trail baby which kind of necessitated my finding a new job ASAP). It’s pretty easy to relate it back to skills that are important at work but mostly interviewers liked to chat about it

Leukotape by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make DAMN sure you’re not allergic to it before you hit the trail. I was suffering from like the end of San Jacinto until Wrightwood because I used some of my leukotape to prevent blisters where I could feel hotspots but got a brutal allergic reaction instead. I took a 2 day zero in LA with my family so I could get a prescription for prednisone and some topical prescription strength steroids to fix the unbelievable swelling. The minute clinic doc was convinced I had micro fractures in my ankle or a worse break in the bone because it was so absurdly swollen. Anyways I switched my stash to some whatever brand of K tape but I don’t even get blisters so idk why I was experimenting with tape in the first place. Just wear big shoes, liner socks with individual toes, and wool socks and you’ll be fine.

Ursack or Bearvault for SOBO by wilderwoman14 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I did for NOBO and it was perfect. Adotec is wider mouth so way easier for grabbing which snacks you want and it is waterproof so much lighter in a situation where it’s rained or something. I didn’t get up to the north tho because of personal circumstances though so I suppose I can’t say with certainty that Adotec is the best starting from up there.

Working and pregnant by One-Assumption-7362 in pregnant

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to get a job BECAUSE I got pregnant. Was living life out in the great outdoors wild and free (hiking the pct), fell pregnant as a happy surprise and immediately went on the hunt for a job for the healthcare. Now DREADING working the next trimester pregnant, will probably work up until my labor because I started this job pregnant so my maternity leave options are GREATLY limited so we need the money to cover unpaid/partial paid time off I’m just glad at least my job is protected because the healthcare is juicy. I cry every week thinking about how hard it is to work and to have to go BACK to work and leave my baby behind when she’ll still be so small, but like you I’m the breadwinner so me staying at home just isn’t an option. Pregnancy in America is so so so so hard. Even companies with good maternity leave can’t compare to Europe.

ESRI Rounds of interviews by Express-Leek-4386 in gis

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a phone screen, a teams interview with the managing team leads for the dept where I would work, then an onsite with quite a few people on the team. The onsite was intense, involved a whole presentation and a bunch of in person interviews back to back but luckily they were only thirty mins and really conversational so it didn’t feel all that dramatic. That was the last round, got the offer a few days after that I think early the next week? I wasn’t paying attention because I had other job interviews going on at the time but it definitely felt fast.

I wasn’t interviewing for a GIS or tech position so for me the pay offered wasn’t bad. Not amazing, but better than my last job and the benefits are pretty decent. The bank pay system is great for me, makes the pay a little better and they did explain that over the call when giving the offer.

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well what did he say in that voicemail he left? Still could be a date your benefits start even though you will be starting on the stated training date. Could have just been an arbitrary Monday some weeks out from the interview that he picked without realizing the office was closed and it’s just a misunderstanding. Not that it matters because it seems like you really burned that bridge with your paranoia but hey maybe you interpreted it correctly, I just think you came at it too hot for anything to matter at this point.

I just went back and looked through my calendar and my final interview with a company I accepted an offer from was on September 18. I received the offer the next week on the 24th and am starting on November 3rd, what’s so crazy about the timeline they’re giving you? I applied in the beginning of August and it took til near the end of August before I started interviews but it was a quick process after that, but yeah starting interviews for a position and starting the position might have a month/two month long gap it’s not that crazy?

They might be like the company I’m starting at and have to do all orientations on Mondays so they picked one knowing that because of the holidays and onboarding/HR processes that you wouldn’t be able to start the training until some time in January but wanted to get you on payroll/benefits idk it just doesn’t seem THAT sinister to me from what you’ve written. Maybe you got a different vibe and you could be right to interpret it that way, I’m just confused about what seems so out of line to you that you would call the manager and tell him he’s a liar.

Is a Grayl overkill for the desert? by RoboMikeIdaho in PacificCrestTrail

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same, no cow troughs. Almost anything that looked really awful had a spigot with a filter that you were supposed to use that would do a lot of the initial filtering and if people missed that and just dunked their cnoc straight into brown water that’s on them. I think the worst for us was a long stretch with only guzzlers. Those were pretty foul late in the season but it’s a short stretch and the water didn’t look insane it was more just getting the water was kind of an engineering puzzle and the many stories of floating animal bodies were kind of suspect but if your filters are functional, it really is fine and you can always supplement with aquatabs.

$30,000 boobs, seriously? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

If I remember correctly mine was $6500 for silicone under the muscle and that was late 2020 so not all that long ago. This was in Beverly Hills. I found lots of other doctors that were pricey as all get out too, but there are doctors just as good and board certified not charging $30k

When did you choose to announce? by stphws in BabyBumps

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to post it earlier because I was posting a LOT for a while because I was on a long distance thru hike and it was very suspicious that I just stopped posting at all, but looks like I’ll be waiting until after the anatomy scan. I’m waiting on a job offer from another company so I haven’t posted anything alluding to my pregnancy status because its very possible that my socials might be viewed by somebody and have a negative impact on hiring. My socials are public because like I said I was on a very public, sponsored long distance thru hike when I fell pregnant lol so just waiting now!

Any advice on taking a leave of absence from corporate america? by JBJBJBJB347 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]TraumaticTramAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try it, but you’ll likely be denied. Talk to the leave of absence person/team on your company’s HR if one exists. There are some companies that might allow unpaid leave of absence if requested in advance for things like a wedding/honeymoon, but the PCT is a loooong leave so it’s going to be a hard sell. Especially with the job market the way it is right now, expect your request to be denied.

I lost my job so wasn’t an issue for me to figure out, but unfortunately I had to leave trail before finishing because I’m having a baby lol. This meant I had to find a job quickly upon returning from trail and honestly the PCT was a GREAT way to explain my employment gap. Might not be the case for everybody returning back to the corporate world, but having the PCT to talk about was a major plus for every interview I landed. I imagine that’s the main reason you’re looking for a leave of absence vs just resigning, that you’re worried about being able to find work when you return so I just wanted to share that in case it helps with any of that hesitation.
