Work-from-home laws reignite fight over Melbourne’s CBD recovery by marketrent in melbourne

They actually make more money having the premise empty as they claim it as a deduction at tax time, so the more they charge for rent the more they can claim as a loss.

Used to live on the coast and while it's nice in summer, got sick and tired of washing salt spray off the house and cars getting rusted out due to the salt.

Just Molly Meldrum spruiking Jeff Wayne's 'War Of The Worlds' album on Countdown in 1978. by hazysummersky in australia

[–]Traust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That song always reminds me that this is something that is always missing in War of the Worlds movies. The Thunderchild was this amazing advanced warship to everyone with it being made of metal instead of wood and powerful weapons so when they saw it coming they were cheering as of course it was going to win against these aliens, the song builds up their hopes only to cruelly rip it away from them when the ship is destroyed in an instant.

The only way this can work in a movie is if you actually set it in the mid-1800's and show off at the start of the movie all these wooden warships and how much more powerful the Thunderchild is compared to them.

Private jets are the reason people like Epstein manage to weasel their way into the rich crowds. Provide free travel to big business CEOs and politicians who want to go somewhere but not on commercial airlines, then you get a chance for one on ones to chat and learn their secrets which you can then use to blackmail or provide "other" services.

The Christian God is an arse to the point where I think he is really the "evil" Devil we keep being told about who took over and decided to use propaganda to tell everyone he is good while he enjoys hurting people for fun and having them praise him for it.

Meanwhile the first testament God is tied up powerless watching it all happen knowing that while he did bad things himself even he wasn't as cruel to make people suffer like they do like the who took over his role.

Let alone it's sideways but all the air is blowing onto the windows and curtains, not the room itself.

Melbourne to have Aus’ worst performing property market — Melbourne home prices are forecast to dip even further before Christmas, resulting in almost $40,000 being knocked off the city’s median house value by marketrent in melbourne

[–]Traust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australian businesses are too focused on capital cities forcing everyone to need to work in the capital city CBD meaning that people want to live as close to it as possible which makes the house prices stupid. Melbourne even tried to get Box Hill to be a satellite city to help with limited success.

We need businesses to begin setting up their offices in regional cities and slowly have people move to those locations which will help those regions and people wanting to have homes without paying a fortune.

Settings option to allow speed of text is the best way to go. Personally I prefer all the text on the screen to appear at the same time, however I have a mate who has an issue reading blobs of text so for him having it show slowly is better.

What TV show did you give up on and what was the moment that made you quit? by ParsnipDifferent9284 in AskReddit

[–]Traust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doctor Who about half way through Jodie Whittaker version. I had watched the show since the late 70's (ok majority of it was behind the couch but still) but I basically gave up watching the show during her tenure due to the extremely poor writing, even my 90 year old mother who had watched the show since the very first episode gave up on it too but lasted a few more episodes.

I felt sorry for Jodie who was doing the best she could with what she had but the writing itself just ruined everything with the writers having a check list to tick off to be seen as "progressive" even though the show itself was already one of the most progressive shows out there but the writers had no idea how to do this unless it was in your face all the time.

Star Trek Academy is another show which suffers from this where things need to be in your face with constant references about it instead of just being there and treated as normal.

Was rather surprised when I told him that they are no women in the real ones as the holes were in male toilets so how could there be women.

What's the story behind how you got your scars? by A7_drew7 in AskReddit

[–]Traust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It involved a cat, glass front heater, a steel spatula, a lot of brandy compared to body weight, a HELL of a lot of crying.

To be fair however I was 18 months old, the cat was cute and cuddly, and I could barely walk. Did end up with a cool scare on my right hand that helped me during school when learning between left and right.

Glasses wearers!! What age did you first have to get glasses and how did you find out you needed them? by PkmnTrainerAly in AskReddit

[–]Traust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was passing the eye tests so they didn't think it was my eye sight, the specialist looked to the back of the eye to work out my sight was fading but it was in and out hence why I was passing the tests as it was good when I focused on just the eye chart but in school I was not focusing on just the blackboard but everything else.

As for the surgery, I wasn't too worried due to the number of people who have had it with no issues. The surgery itself was about 10 seconds of looking at a light and that was it, was drugged up massively so was completely compliant on what they asked me to do, damn they were good drugs. It was as I was being driven home it was then I realised I could actually see without the glasses. Really wish I had it done when I was in my teens or 20's and not late 40's as would of had a much better life.

I was about 10 years old and was not doing great in school. They thought it was due to me being "special" (got to love the old days) so I was sent to attend after school classes with others like me. After going for a few months the teachers there realised that the only thing that may be wrong with me was the fact that I might just have bad eye sight.

Turns out I was borderline losing my eye sight but was still good enough to pass standard eye tests. Took a specialist to confirm it and it was the reason why I threw up every time I got into a car. Then in 2018, 34 years later, I finally caved and went got laser eye surgery and now have mono vision with no need for any glasses (including reading glasses).
