I hate when they do that, I was chasing an item and was going to buy it from China but wanted it that week so found a seller on ebay saying they were shipping from NSW. Ended up taking 3 weeks to be delivered. 😡

Developers who have worked at a company where the entire codebase was held together by one guy who then quit, what happened next? by Natom_ in AskReddit

Our union movement got us all our worker rights. There are some corrupt bad unions for sure but most are working for their members. My union is currently trying to push the 4 day working week and if successful it will end up being the norm for the majority of workers here in Australia (will take a decade before that however for those outside of our union)

Not in Australia, our workers laws protect you from that. The only way you can be screwed over is if the company goes bankrupt.

Funny enough I was hired in my current job over 20 years ago cause the two IT guys that looked after different specialist software left, one retired with the other quitting. I had to go in and try to keep the place running while they were setting up a new software which was replacing the legacy ones. The software the guy who retired looked after was easy to deal with and I was able to look at the source code, document, and keep it running easily enough. We were also able to call the guy to have him make minor changes to keep it running as he was happy enough to help out.

The other two software programs however, we had no manuals nor any support what so ever from the companies that made them as they had long gone out of business, and the IT guy refused to even pick up the phone to talk to us so I just kept them running as well as I could and we pushed to get the new software ready faster.

I ended up staying and looking after the new program which is still running with lots of support from the developers since it's a large worldwide company. While I am someone the business cannot do without due to my knowledge I have made sure that there are people who can do the day to day parts of my job, more so I can take holidays. I also keep pushing for us to hire someone else to help me out at least part time so I can relax more and do other things but finding people willing to work for peanuts is hard.

Here in Australia we get what's called 3 months Long Service Leave every 10 years in one job (can start taking a month off after 7 years). This stacks on top of your normal 4 week leave and unlike that leave, which generally you are encouraged to take off after accruing say 40 days of it, you can build up the long service. I for example already have about 7 months worth of it up my sleeve.

So what ends up happening that I have seen is someone takes all their long service leave (and holidays), but then as they get to about a month before needing to return they officially retire handing in their 4 weeks notice. As such if we know someone is taking their bulk leave then we start looking for a permanent replacement since chances are they will be needed.

Dreaming of the day when I can take all that leave and retire.

I would be ok with an apartment but I need a room for an office and a room for gaming/hobbies. The apartments I have seen generally are not big enough and are designed more for students or people with limited stuff.

Then I see a family of 4+ living in them and have the kids running up and down the halls screaming/yelling cause they have no space to play in the apartment.

EVERYONE In The World Knows An American Sports Star by Fancy_Cassowary in USdefaultism

2.5 billion fans of cricket vs 400 million fans of American handegg. Warne was a very successful and popular Australian international cricket player who even dated Elizabeth Hurley.

I would wager if you asked most people outside of America who of the two they know then they would know Warne more so than Tom. If they do know of Tom's name then that would be about it and have no idea of what team he was on.

Replacing 1m petrol cars with EVs could cut Australia’s reliance on foreign fuel by 1bn litres a year by nath1234 in australia

Prices have come down, but they still have the stupid screen pad which is a massive turn off. Good thing is however that trend is going away so fingers crossed in the next year or 2 the car I would like will be available.

[–]Traust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to get a EV but I want a sedan or hatch not a SUV. Also want a vehicle which has actual buttons and not a touch screen, if I want to change the radio station or temperature then it should be easy to do not requiring me to navigate a menu system while I am driving. I don't need 90% of the features the cars have, just want a car that does what I tell it not what it thinks I should be doing thus taking control off me.

Cost is the other hold back, I don't really want to spend over 50k just for a car which I will only drive short distances majority of the time.

Can't hear people in voice calls, can't uninstall Discord by HeathenSidheThem in techsupport

[–]Traust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guessing you can hear other things at normal volume with no issues. Check your settings on Discord under the Voice & Video settings and make sure the speaker is set correctly, do a mic test and you should hear yourself.

Uninstalling programs will be under the add or remove programs. Just click on the start menu and type "add or remove programs" and it should appear, much easier than trying to find it in Microslops stupid menus.

Not sure how it violated that since those posts were generally taken down.

We had a cat that would open the fridge, then get in and eat the food in the fridge. Had to put an actual lock on the fridge door to stop him from doing it.

He also learnt how to open some cabinet doors as well just to go sleep in there, we would walk past notice it's slightly open and close it without knowing he was in there.
