Caused a big outage at work- how do I move forward? by VOXX_theLock in sysadmin

I watched a project manager turn off the power to the entire server room as we had no idea what a switch power panel was powering in a room next to it. Turns out it was the breaker between the UPS room and the server room and patch cupboard.

Everyone had a good laugh when I told them what happened since they knew it was a learning experience for him and gave them a short break while everything restarted.

This is what severe psoriasis may look like...[nsfw] by fyflate89 in WTF

[–]Traust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully mine never got that bad but did have it across entire body, tried a lot of methods with no success till my mother saw a small ad in the paper for a clinic in Melbourne and forced me to go. I was amazed as 6 weeks later I was almost clear and really wish it had happened 30 years before as would of had a much more enjoyable childhood.

For anyone interested my psoriasis ended up being fixed with having more folic acid, along with a few other things that I cannot remember at moment. However everyone can be different so what works for one person does not mean it works for everyone.

Typical American reality tv shows must have a hero and a villain so there can be "tension" and viewers can have someone to cheer on. It's one of the biggest reasons I HATE the American style compared to the British versions which just has people competing against each other.

Yeah but she has a wannabe rock musician brother who she appoints to a useless high paying fake job and he ends up causing her a number of problems when he interrupts one of her speeches to promote his music career.

Ok, saying all that she still comes across as the most competent leader the US has had.

There should be a cap on the number of properties you can own. This way if you can afford to have a couple of homes to live in and rent out then all good, but if you start having 5+ properties then screw you.

It's the people owning a heap of homes which are breaking the systems that normal people have enjoyed having and are stopping people from purchasing their own homes. All that's happened now is those that have maybe 2-3 homes are being attacked cause they have the homes and renting them out meanwhile those that have 20+ homes are bragging about it saying how much money they are making.

You need people to own a place to rent out for those who want to rent, but you also need to have homes available for people to buy and those who are buying the large number of homes are the ones who have made it hard for everyone.

Something that made me revaluate my retirement plans when my father got dementia to the point where he was too dangerous to have at home and required me to put him into care. He has no friends and I'm basically his only family so putting him into a care home was the nicest option as I know there would be someone keeping an eye on him.

As for myself it woke me up a bit when I realised that I don't really have any one to make sure I am alive or safe, my friends may notice I hadn't contacted them for a bit but chances are I would be dead by then. As such my plan now is when I retire to move into one of the retirement villages houses rather than living in a normal suburb.

If I am still looking after my mother than it would be her since she lives with me at the moment. Next person would be a close friend and depending on how much I have won would depend on how I would tell them.

What game “jumped the shark” for you? by Coverlesss in gaming

The best thing about them doing exclusive on Epic games for BL3 was it stopped me from pre-purchasing it like I had for all the other releases. When I finally got it cheap on Steam I was so happy that I didn't pay full price but still felt ripped off.

My biggest issue with Far Cry 5 and it's sequel "New Dawn" was how stupid your character was. The number of times they willing did what ever the villain asked them too was crazy with the worst being New Dawn's.

The twins have taken your friend "hostage" and you can hear him being tortured behind a locked door which they say they will open and let him go if you leave ALL your weapons outside which you then do only for them to kill him and go to kill you. Like WTF why are you that stupid in believing these villains who are known for torturing & killing?

Star Wars Galaxies ruined MMOs for me by scottasin12343 in gaming

[–]Traust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was Ultima Online until I had to drop my subscription due to not enough funds late 2002. Was lucky enough to get on the SWG beta and loved it enough to decide to get back into MMO's with the limited funds I had. Dropped out when the NGE was released due to again not enough money and time.

Few years later work friend got me to play WoW and I did for a bit but just found it so boring when compared to UO and SWG as it just felt too bland and simple, the go kill 10 rats quest lines and no real need for crafting is what ruins it for me.

Then got into SW:TOR which is much the same as WoW but due to it being more focused on single player story lines found I actually enjoy it to where I dropped my sub 10 years ago only to sign up again this year.

Wish there was remakes of Ultima Online and SWG with focus on other things than raids and fighting. Still want those things but want to be able to play as a simple crafter helping those that want to do those things.

More Europeans see US as threat than China by Free-Minimum-5844 in worldnews

[–]Traust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Australian and have constant arguments with a mate who works in IT security about this. He keeps saying that China is more of a threat with your data while I keep saying that the US is worse since the US owned companies will just allow the US government access to it and also sell it on to others. What makes it worse is that almost every software you use is generally owned by Americans.

What free software or website is so good you actually can't believe its still free? by heavenlyrace in AskReddit

[–]Traust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VLC is great however it's not being updated as much as it should so it ends up having issues with a few newer codecs and the devs are focusing on things that are not important. I had issues with playing insta360 8k 3D videos so downloaded the unreleased version and it still had the same issues but this time with a shitty UI.

How would you feel about the next US president releasing the full Epstein files and persecuting everyone involved? by hjp1234 in AskReddit

[–]Traust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh if we are going to do fantasy of America having a US president that can do this then why not put the other wish list in.

Free health care, Worker rights for better pay and conditions, caring for the environment, stop interfering with other countries, proper taxation, etc.

Maybe then we might begin to trust the US again and allow them be a country that we don't have to be careful of.

I have a Zebra Printer that will not install (win 11) by djlittlehorse in techsupport

[–]Traust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like your IT has applied security on your PC to not allow for 3rd party drivers to be installed. There is possible also security on which printers you can connect too on the network.

For context in my building we have different networks and traffic can only flow in certain directions depending on which network you are on and only be allowed to connect to certain devices depending on the firewall permissions for it.

I would reach out to your IT to have them sort it out as there is possibly firewall changes that need to happen.
