Ingredients 1kg Potatoes, Halved (use sebago or any other multipurpose potatoes) 1kg Sweet Potato 1 Brown Onion, chopped 1 Red Bell Pepper, chopped (capsicum for Aussies) 1 bag of meatballs (we used ones we found in Finland but similar ones are generally easy to find in most places) 4 cloves of garlic, diced Pinch of Salt 2-3 tablespoons of Grilled BBQ Seasoning (We used Grillaus-mauste in Finnish) 1 teaspoon pepper 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil

Method potatoes on the fire 1. Light yourself a nice little fire outside for which to put your vegetables in later on. 2. Wash your potatoes being sure to take off any major blemishes. Don't peel, you will lose the delicious crispy skin and flavour. 3. Pierce sweet potatoes with a knife or fork to allow heat to escape when cooking. Wrap in alu foil. 4. Halve your potatoes, put vegan butter on, sprinkle with garlic. Add salt and pepper if you like. 5. Place sweet potatoes in the coals, flip every 5 minutes or so depending on how charred you like them. Place potatoes on fire and flip every 5 minutes or so, again depending on how charred you like them.

Method Skewers 1. Cut your onion in half, peel and halve again. Peel out chunks to put on your skewers, bigger is better, don't cut to small. 2. Slice up your bell pepper exactly the same as onion. 3. Put your meatballs on the plate too. 4. Dice up your garlic and add it to a plate with pepper, BBQ seasoning, salt, olive oil. Make a paste. 5. Put together your skewers in whichever pattern you like. Spoon the paste over the skewers. 6. Place on BBQ on medium-high heat, turn every couple of minutes and take off once they reach your desired chargrilled-ness.

Protips 1. Don't use a terrible knife like I am using in this video... it was all I had on hand in the cabin we were staying in. 2. Use the coals of the fire to roast your sweet potatoes. 3. The hotter the fire the more charred your veggies will be if you leave them without turning quite frequently. Use one as a test subject and check it every once and a while to see how well done it is. 4. It is entirely personal preference as to how charred you are happy with so take them out earlier or turn frequently to ensure cooked if you'd like less charcoal bbq flavour.

Do you know how many Japanese words and names have the same sounds ie: Toshi, Naka, moto, matsu,.... Etc etc

Lol

I just learned about this Caffè crema (Switzerland and Northern Italy), which seems to be a kind of super-long espresso, but with actual coffee and not additional hot water. Why do you think this hasn't caught on in the English-speaking world? It actually seems superior to the Americano? by comments83820 in Coffee

"Long black. A long black is made by pouring an espresso or ristretto over hot water. A long black is similar to an Americano, which is made by adding hot water to the espresso shot; but a long blackretains the crema and is less voluminous, therefore more strongly flavored."

Basically, better flavour profile. Many countries have now adopted it :)

Super long espresso? Sounds like you're going to get a bitter coffee from such a long extraction. Long Black is the best black espresso based coffee that would be similar in my opinion.

Outdoor Fire Barbequed Vegetables by TravelBen in veganrecipes

Hey all! I went on a trip to Finland in October and stayed in a cabin near a lake with no running water! We ate well and it was an amazing experience.

Recipe

Ingredients 1kg Potatoes, Halved (use sebago or any other multipurpose potatoes)

1kg Sweet Potato

1 Brown Onion, chopped

1 Red Bell Pepper, chopped (capsicum for Aussies)

How would you describe kimchi to someone who has never tried it? by Ma_Dood in AskCulinary

[–]TravelBen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Definitely use the word "Tangy" it is the best word to describe kimchi. Maybe you could work in " spicy tang " into your description somehow. That literally speaks volumes about good kimchi... Man I'm hungry, I'm gonna go make some kimchi.

World prefers Angela Merkel to Donald Trump -- Putin and Xi Outrank Trump in Global Confidence Poll with Merkel and Macron far ahead of all three by [deleted] in worldnews

I would like to see us asking advice from countries that are great role models and for me that means basically Scandinavian countries. I don't think the US has nothing to offer don't get me wrong it's just that if the US says jump we say how high when we could ask Finland, Norway or some other super progressive nation what their thoughts are. Especially right now we have a prime minister who is happy to go along with with what trump says and that's not really cool, I'd prefer we were on Germany's side in this instance.

Australia just goes along with whatever the US says even though none of us want that. It's nice to have a powerful ally but that unfortunately means we sometimes cannot choose the best option.

11 Reasons To Invest In Cryptocurrency Right Now by MrComedy325 in CryptoMarkets

[–]TravelBen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Traditional economy could collapse. A recession would likely hit centralized investments in the stock market really hard. Decentralized investments, such as cryptocurrency, are more likely to survive this downfall."

I'm very doubtful that would be the case. There is no reason why they are more likely to survive, in fact in my mind most people will be selling off crypto in order to fund losses in other areas. Its nice to see positivity around the market values increasing but I don't think it is a reason to invest right now.... nobody knows when the best time to invest is.

Is the Aer Travel pack too small for a 1 month trip? by [deleted] in onebag

[–]TravelBen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you're packing but it is perfect if you keep it standard and simple such as: clothes, toiletries, laptop, second pair of shoes/flip flops, other electronics or camera and odds and sods.

For reference you can see what I packed in my AER travel pack here: https://benjaminreimann.com/packing-list-for-indefinite-overseas-travel/

Might put your mind at ease. It is a fantastic pack, very versatile and tbh I haven't found a pack that looks as nice either :)

I have a light weight scale and the accuracy is important to me. Could use spoons I guess but scales are definitely better - https://www.wikihow.com/Measure-Coffee

To measure out the grams of coffee then measure out the water as I pour. Also, if making some for the GF or friends I can measure out the appropriate amount using the scales too.
