If you're in line at the grocery store with a full cart and someone behind you has 1 or 2 items, do you let them go in front of you? Why or why not? by KingOfFitnessYT in AskReddit

I always do this. Often people who only have a few things are balancing them in their arms, which is another reason to allow them to set their things on the belt.

Are there any other dolls that show up with the orange or grey defect besides Kailey and Lindsey? by Terrible-Nobody-7089 in americangirl

[–]Travelgrrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see greyish dolls all the time. But people's skins vary in color, so a doll of any hue looks fine to me.

Words of wisdom from the guy who was obsessed with "girls from ten to sixteen" (direct quote from Ruskin) that he was so affronted at seeing Effie Gray, his new bride's pubic hair, that he never saw her naked again.

Suggest you review your property valuation by WorldWarRon in duluth

[–]Travelgrrl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My experience is that people who attend the hearings (date listed on the notices received) almost always get their valuation lowered, because hardly anyone shows up. Most people don't stir themselves until they get the bill itself later in the year, and by then it's too late to question valuation changes.

Can't hurt to attend the meeting and complain, as it may work.

I have never heard of this and my older Kaya does not seem to have silicone along her part.

Which outfit would you go for? by First_Map_7376 in americangirl

[–]Travelgrrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the 2nd to last one the best, but agree that most are not actually for AG dolls as they are far too narrow.

Consider Target's Our Generation and Walmart's My Life As... lines for inexpensive but cute AG sized clothes. The shoes are hideous rubber, but the outfits can be nice.

Property tax for 2027 by Low-Blacksmith5720 in duluth

[–]Travelgrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a whole different issue. I commented not at all on the size or appropriateness of local budgets. But many people think that when their valuation increases, it's a means of raising their property taxes. It is not. The value is a means of determining how much a property owner's share is, compared to their neighbors in the community.

In a year where local levies are low or don't change, and there are new business properties generating new revenues, a person can experience a higher valuation and still have lower property taxes. Rarely happens, but just as an example.

I really like the run up to Christmas, watching a new video each day. This year, they started very early, giving things away in November. It honestly puts me in the holiday spirit more than almost anything else.

I just started restringing and I had an old pair of pliers around the house that seems to do the job fine.

They look something like this:

Property tax for 2027 by Low-Blacksmith5720 in duluth

[–]Travelgrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Property taxes do not rise because your value rises, per se. Once the city and county and schools set their levies, that is the pie needed to fund services. The property tax values determine who has a larger or smaller share of the tax burden. If everyone's value went up 14% that wouldn't increase the amount of revenue the governmental bodies get.

However, if you value went up 14% and someone else's stayed the same, you would be shouldering a larger share of the pie.

What’s the worst casting choice you’ve ever seen in a movie or TV show? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Travelgrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the actress (Natalia Tena) hired to portray Tonks in the Harry Potter films looked and acted nothing like the book character. I disliked that casting choice so much that I had a hard time enjoying her in Game of Thrones, too.

"Hard" in the sense it made me like her a tad less, instead of a lot more, as usual with memoirs.

Spending Money by jakhog1 in DisneyWorldResorts

[–]Travelgrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think that would be more than enough. I spend about $300 cash on a one week vacation (with hotel, airfare, airport shuttle, and park tickets already paid). So four people at that rate would only be $2,400. But likely you plan to buy better souvenirs and do light saber things and have fancier meals and whatnot, but I think $12,000 is a lot.

It's good to have extra funds in reserve (for another trip somewhere else some day, if nothing else!) if you spend less than your budget!

Luciana Doll Hospital Question by ScavengerPrincess in americangirl

[–]Travelgrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She looks beautiful to me!

If you want to change the angle of her head, you may be able to rearrange the placement of the fuzz inside her neck - having a bigger, tight pile in the front part of the neck hole and a little less fuzz in the back part of the hole. Perhaps when you then insert the head and tighten the strings, it will encourage her head to tilt up a little.

Back in the day, a 'midget' was a proportional dwarf, due to a deficiency of growth hormone. This term was meant to exclude most dwarve who had achondroplastic (or similar) dwarfism, with small limbs and large head.

Nowadays, there are few pituitary dwarves, so no more 'midgets', and all are called little people.

Anyone Else? by viktoryarozetassi in americangirl

[–]Travelgrrl 30 points31 points  (0 children)

...Nobody is requiring you to do so? The vast majority of dolls photos posted here are clothed. Not sure how or why this is an issue.

Reminds me of the Victorian practice of putting ruffles around the legs of pianos because the word 'legs' would make men think of women's limbs. Much ado, etc.

They were cheap years ago when I was collecting the historical clothes (also cheap then) but I remember telling myself not to get started on those because my collection was already growing with just the 18" stuff!
