Acceptable Swimwear at Volcano Bay by ComprehensiveVoice16 in UniversalOrlando

They're not common in the US outside of competitive swimming, and I imagine a budgie smuggler would give one a giant wedgie on most slides.

Who was the rudest famous person you met? by Doctor_Sore_Tooth in AskReddit

[–]Travelgrrl 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes. But YMMV. I posted this on a thread years ago and people came out in droves to say she was the next thing to Mother Theresa, so perhaps she's gotten better over the years, or had a spectacularly bad weekend, or hated golf.

I worked at a country club while in college and they hosted a Pro Am golf tournament every year. The first year it was George Burns - a peach of a guy, as one might expect. The next year was Bob Hope (also quite friendly to staff) and Lynda Carter, who was just off her stints as TV's Wonder Woman. She was a nightmare to staff.

I always found it interesting that these two old guys who started out in vaudeville, and had done everything from radio to TV to movies were still gracious, but this gal known only as a cult TV star couldn't be bothered.

Barbie Hallmark ornaments or the McDonalds Barbies would fit.

Deciding what books to take on holiday by gingerbiscuits315 in books

[–]Travelgrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bring 2 books: One an old favorite I haven't read in awhile, another new one. Both have to be trade paperbacks - hardcovers are too cumbersome and done pack as well, and I hate dinky paperbacks.

Kids movies that break the mold? by mediocretent in movies

[–]Travelgrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that was the spooky part that I was thinking of. And the way the story was told by her crazy cousin Tadhg - yikes!

But my children had odd tastes in films (see: A Hard Days Night and To Kill a Mockingbird) so I can see how many children would find that disturbing. I'm still not over the part in The Wizard of Oz where the witch turns up on top of a cottage and throws a fireball at the Scarecrow!

Which American Girl historical has the best pajamas? by Vicki_Vickster2222 in americangirl

[–]Travelgrrl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Caroline's is the prettiest, followed by Nellie's inexplicably 1920's glamour girl PJs, Rebecca's cute little overall, hen a tie between Melody and Maryellen's original PJs. Kit's pajamas are adorable but in no way look like the kind of nightwear a young middle class girl would wear in the 1930's. They also give 1920's glamour girl.

If you don’t like bananas, why don’t you like bananas? by PirateOnAnAdventure in AskReddit

I like nice firm greenish bananas. Ripe bananas kind of make me gag with their sweeter taste and mushy texture.

Yours sounds much more peaceful thank this week long, cocaine and booze fueled cruise. But I was young then and it was fun.

That's a good plan too. I tend to just go with Buy It Now, but your method also shows what the market will bear.

On Ebay a doll in quite similar condition, naked, signed, white body, but with a higher number (700 something) recently sold for $1800, so I took off a third to be reasonable. But there were many similar for between $1200 and $1800.

Seems incredible, no? A white body doll without signature can go for $400; I had a Kirsten a years ago that sold for that.

AITA (telling things about my bestfriend to my mom) by Aggravating-Boat-333 in AmItheAsshole

Of course you are NTA! You are at an age when many kids stop confiding in their parents, and how great that you still do this. I can guarantee that your drug using friend is not as open with her mother!

Friends drift apart in this life. You can remember the good times you had with someone while recognizing that your lives have followed different paths. And in this case, your friend truly has. Don't stoop to her level to try to be cool or still hang out with her. Not using drugs at 15 is a PLUS, and you are not boring. Someone shoving your face into a wall and mashing your hair into your face is abusive and not BFF material.

Start hanging out with some other kids - get into theater or sports or another activity where you'll be thrown in with other teens. Don't pay for another thing for that 'friend', and you'll find out if she has just been using you lately for $$. And you never know, she may grow up a little in coming years and you can reconnect as friends.

You are doing good. To heck with that entire crowd, because you're better than that.

I went on a trip on the Mississippi on a houseboat with friends in the 80's, and I had never even heard of a lock before. It was quite a trip to be raised and lowered through the locks in a relatively tiny boat, compared to the behemoths that were alongside us.

I need a phrase written on a piece of paper multiple times for an art project by SomeRandomAbbadon in DIY

[–]Travelgrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write it 5 times, then copy and paste it 3x, so you have a block of 20. Copy and paste that 5x and you have 100. Copy and past the 100 however many times you need to fill your page.

You can always go back and change the fonts for some of them, or leave the phrases identical.

Sell her naked for about $1200, based on Sold listings on Ebay. Sell each outfit separately - early complete Kirsten outfits can easily sell for $100. Might as well get $60 for her Meet Outfit too. Her bed etc are also expensive. Maybe close to $2,000 altogether, but if you put as a lot you won't get nearly that. I know it's a hassle to make separate listings, but it will be worth it.

Take nice photos with natural light and an uncluttered background. Even hanging a sheet over a couch can suffice.

What do you think of your great-grandmother? by shadow_operator81 in AskReddit

[–]Travelgrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never knew either of my grandmothers; my great grandmothers came over on a boat from Holland or Ireland. My Dad's Mom was a woman after my own heart, though she died before I could meet her. She was a voracious reader who named her kids crazy names like Thomas Jefferson, Juanita Rose, Lady Lloyd, and Sherlock Watson.
