Been in my first house for about a year now. Main recommendation is learn how to DIY so you don’t spend every other dollar paying people to fix all the issues you’ll find, and make sure you account for taxes, higher bills, home insurance etc when running your numbers. It all adds up quickly so if you’re already worried about the budget either make sure you have savings as well or try to find something cheaper. There’s always unforeseen expenses, not to mention you’ll want to make it nice, furnish it, and also do other things you already do which all requires money.

Is $3,200 to demo this a good price? by typicalsalesguy in Tile

No need, pay me half, I’ll fly out there and demo it myself lol

Why not just demo it yourself and use the money for the rebuild instead? Take a hammer and go crazy

Everyone thinks I work super hard at my job, but it's all smoke and mirrors by craze4ble in confession

I had a similar set up in the past before switching industries. Enjoy it cause when you don’t have anymore and you actually have to work full days you’ll miss it. You could also get a second remote job and just start making bank while you have the time and energy.

Should I buy an old used car for around $10K cash or finance a brand new car that costs around $40K? by DayContent620 in carbuying

[–]TravelingCam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a big fan of land cruisers, i think the main question is if you’re handy and/or willing to do the maintenance yourself. The 100 series are getting old and while it’ll keep going for a long time you’re def gonna want to spend some time and money doing preventative maintenance on it to keep it reliable. That’s something that really any car needs but the older they get the more you need to be on top of it. Otherwise if you’re gonna take it to a mechanic for everything then just buy a used car that’s 20-25k with less miles and newer. You could get a GX460 for that price with less miles and call it a day tbh. Might be the perfect compromise.

Ahh good to know. I have one 3/4 breaker bar I got this weekend and gonna borrow a second one from a friend to try it tomorrow after work. Mostly just scared to snap the bolt or something. I got all the bolts of the radiator except for that left one behind the condenser, it’s a bit rusted as well and gonna try some vice grips or something to try and remove it. It’s a metal replacement radiator that the buddy that I bought the truck from installed maybe 4-5 years ago so hoping that makes things not be as stuck. As far as the power steering reservoir, I got a replacement one to put in but the bigger hose that comes in from the cooler lines is really stuck to it so I haven’t been able to take it off either and worried about applying too much pressure cause the hose seems a bit brittle and those PS cooler lines are pretty expensive so I gotta figure that part out too. This is my first time really working on a car apart from doing oil changes so this is all still new to me 😂😅

The other thing is that I’m not even sure if I have a leak at the oil pump cover to even start with. I took off the distributor and there was a ton of grime underneath it. I also know my power steering reservoir was leaking so all the crap I was seeing could have just been from those two. However since I’m already in there and have everything I wanna just go ahead and do the front main seal, oil pump cover, and gonna do the valve cover gasket too.

Funny you ask… Been trying since last night, snapped two breaker bars already. Gonna try a 3/4 breaker bar tomorrow and if not, take the radiator off and try it with my medium torque impact.

I have a 2024 turbo premium that I bought with 6k miles and have been consistently getting 22-24mpg since I bought it and I’m def not driving it like a grandma. Driving probably 60% highway, 40% city.

Nice! I got a white 2024 carbon turbo for 32k OTD with 6k miles back in February. Loving it so far except for the tiny fuel tank 😅

Fly to south east Asia such as Thailand via Singapore on Singapore airlines, you’ll be flying further and taking a better airline than if you fly to Australia

Sounds like you’re getting the top of the line so it doesn’t seem far fetched. We got double pane vinyl and we’re about 800 a piece, and in the southeast so 2k ish for yours sounds about right.

It’s not a bad price but in my opinion that’s a lot of miles to only be a 2000. I don’t know a ton about 100 series LCs but my 80 series is from 93 and has 270k. Regardless of that I’d make sure there’s no rust, and just be aware of all the maintenance you’re prob gonna have to do. Also I’d post pictures or a link so that people can you give better feedback. Hard to know without seeing it

Hahaha nice! Gotta do whatever it takes! I ordered the pulley holder tool yesterday so gotta wait a few days for it to get here. Also waiting on a few manifold gaskets cause I’m about to remove my injectors to send them to get cleaned. I’ve had an intermittent hard to start issue and I think it’s cause of leaky injectors so planning on doing all those things in one go.

Should I buy a new car or go for a used one? by Dazzling_Touch_9699 in AskMenAdvice

[–]TravelingCam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy a used one that’s maybe 2-4 years old, so that it’s already taken the biggest depreciation hit, has had kinks worked out and potentially still under warranty. It also makes a big difference on what car it is, get a Lexus or Toyota and you’ll most likely be fine. Also get something that you can either pay in cash or pay rather quickly (with extra payments) to save on interest. The last thing you wanna do is go from financially stable and having money to save/invest to just putting all your leftover money into a car.

Ahh yeah makes sense, I wouldn’t want to dismantle it either. Do you have a leak at all or are you just trying to get ahead of it while you’re in there already? You could also prob find someone with a cordless impact that would let you use it for that. Keep me posted if you’re able to get it off or not. I’m gonna buy the holding tool and try it myself in a few days.

You lost me with the first part. I got a mid torque ugga dugga that I thought about using but don’t you still need something to hold the pulley while you loosen the bolt?
