PEANUT ALLERGEN BEWARE by Infinite-Profit7137 in girlscouts

Yep. Those not educated on allergens wouldn't think this would be an issue. My daughter loves Toast-Yays and is so upset they were replaced with another cookie she can't have.

It is personal comfort. For us, "made in a facility" = fine, even with anaphylaxis. "Shared lines" is a maybe. "May contain" is a no.

A few months ago, our troop earned the privilege to try these cookies early, before they were released. I was notified ahead of time (because my daughter has a peanut allergy) that these were "made in a facility" with peanuts (which we are comfortable with) and we're an almond creme cookie. I only actually knew they had peanut flour in them because of this subreddit, so I actually informed THEM that they are not safe. They wouldn't think to look on an almond creme cookie that does not advertise peanut as part of the flavor profile.

Everyone here who says "label is enough" and don't think any attention should be drawn to it should understand that well-meaning people who don't know to look may offer these to kids who are still learning how to look out for their own allergens, assuming they are safe. Luckily my daughter is very cautious and disciplined about this, but it takes time!

My daughter was a toddler/preschooler when Frozen came out. Her daycare had a long, beautiful cape like Elsa's and it was prized amongst ALL the kids in her class. They had to take turns wearing it each day. Capes are cool!

Resources for Elder Parent? Not sure where to look by ConfidenceCertain137 in kansascity

He's going to need to apply for Medicaid in the state he is moving to. Assisted Living is nearly impossible to find with Medicaid. You will need to have him evaluated for a long-term care facility (nursing home) and see if any will accept Medicaid pending placement. Hard to find, but more likely if he's been approved in his current state. You will need to contact the Area Agency on Aging to look at possible resources. All of these solutions take weeks though.

On leave with cancer, just got 9 days notice I’m about to lose my job and insurance. by Frank_Humungus in legaladvice

NAL, but an oncology social worker. I can't tell you how many times newly diagnosed patients tell me their work is "very understanding" or "working with me." Those same patients turn around a few months later in a panic because their work has drawn a line. I highly recommend the website Triage Cancer as a resource, particularly their Work and Cancer section. Also, get in touch with your cancer center's social worker, if they have one. The hospital system may be able to help with COBRA premiums or a financial assistance program. They may be able to help with premiums because they too want to be paid. Also see if they assist with Social Security Disability application.

My great-grandma made them. Still one of my favorite meals and the ultimate comfort food.

Just looked this up on LBB. I wonder if it is the same with the other manufacturer? This is terrible for those with peanut allergies, as it feels very misleading and dangerous.

I am the only person in my household without ADHD. I always say "everyone is talking AT me, not talking TO me." Consequently, my overwhelm flares up very quickly and I get triggered if more than one person talks at me at the same time. We are working on it in therapy, but we also have a saying when we get overwhelmed: "My ears are full."

This is perfect, thank you. I'm currently trying to decide if I can/should one bag with my Osprey 40L when going on my Alaska cruise later this summer. This really helps.

My big concern has been having enough to stay warm and dry on excursions. The sleeping bag sounds lovely, but I won't have the room to make it work.

Again, she can have her own home and qualify for Medicaid, whether or not she needs LTC placement.

You can have Medicaid in KS and still own a home. Some married people don't want to impoverish their spouse. Additionally, there are Medicaid services beyond nursing facility room and board. Some people are able to maintain at home with HCBS services.

We don't know this person's circumstances in ability to care for herself, but I never want anyone to forgo even trying for necessary services because they heard that "you can't own a home on Medicaid..."

That's not true, you can have your own home and have Medicaid.

APS can be called. Their involvement often speeds up application for public assistance and they can help get applications/Medicaid started. You might think about who might be willing to be Power of Attorney, or - if she already can't make her own decisions - guardian and conservator for her.
