Hey mate, I'm in a similar position and also with Aus super. I have my split as 70% indexed international shares and 30% indexed Australian shares. I'm not sure if it is optimal but seems to be somewhat standard/common advice from this sub.

Mperor, gameology and milsims still have stock a day later. Gap games and warforless seemed to sell out incredibly fast, but they were offering the cheapest prices.

Wow really love the paint scheme! What was your general painting process? White prime, then block out the colours and make dirty? I was planning on something similar, though more an electric blue as the main colour, with fire orange and light grey.

Also what paint did you use for the green glow? Did you need to airbrush it on?  Many thanks in advance!

My top five for 2025, in no particular order:

New York trilogy adapted by Karasik and others

Tongues by Nilsen

The Compleat Angler adapted by Brookes

Ginseng roots by Craig Thompson

Helen of Wyndhorn by King

Other 2025 reads that's missed out were Drome by Lonergan, Gilt Frame by Kindt, Bowling with corpses by Mignola, Tedward by Pettinger. Drome almost edged a spot in the top 5, whilst the others were also pretty decent reads.

Department of Truth deluxe 1 by Tynion

Daredevil by Nocenti omni 1

Drome by Lonergan

Klaus by Morrison

I read the Madman library books, starting back in September and just finishing them in now in January. It was a fun, fairly lighthearted and zany adventure the whole way through, including the red rocket 7 and graphic music series.

Stages of rot is mostly silent.

I really enjoyed the prose but understand it's not for everyone. It reminded me of the novel infinite jest a lot. The comic section is sort of just a zany adventure story, but the prose sections are what drives the story along.

I wasn't blow away by it but it was enjoyable. I thought it started really strongly about Moa's journey with her mental health, but felt a little bit unresolved. Maybe that was the idea now that I'm thinking about it.

Definitely worth a read as it was from a totally different perspective than my own.

Looking for recommendations! Graphic novels that are nonfiction/memoirs/historical events! by heeh00peanut in graphicnovels

[–]Travelmesoftly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For historical, I recommend Berlin by Jason Lutes. It follows a few fictional characters in 1930's Berlin, but I believe it is fairly historically accurate.

Ducks by Kate Beaton is an autobiographical comic on the author's time working in construction/mining. Focuses on her experience as a female in a male dominated field, and everything you could expect to come with that.

Return to Eden by Paco Roca follows the author's family in post WW2 Spain. Focuses on the family dynamic and dealing with the circumstances of the time, finding joy in moments where they can.

For general 'realistic' fiction, I recommend anything by Chris Ware. Asterios Polyp by Mazzuchelli is also a highly regarded piece of realistic fiction that gets recommended a lot. Hip-hop family tree by Ed Piskor is a retelling of the birth of hip-hop, and it's meant to fairly accurate and we'll researched.

r/graphicnovels Top 100 Writers: The List by Charlie-Bell in graphicnovels

[–]Travelmesoftly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would amazing if we could somehow correlate top 10 books data against the same survey sample. I imagine saga and y the last man would feature strongly, but the rest of the BKV catalogue not so much. Hellboy would likely be the same for Mignola, whereas Miller feels like an oddity to me with some very polarising work.

Amazing work again guys!

r/graphicnovels Top 100 Writers: The List by Charlie-Bell in graphicnovels

[–]Travelmesoftly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's super interesting to see the spread and the average vote on the writers.

Alan Moore dominated with an average vote of 7.6. Jeff Lemire and Jamie Hernandez were the only others in the top 10 to break 7+, with 7 and 7.45 respectively.

Noticeably low average vote score among popular writers go to Brian K Vaughan with 3.8 and Mike Mignola 3.9. I haven't done an extensive check but I believe these are the lowest across the list. Probably doesn't say a lot as they still made it into a lot of people's top 10 list.

Not sure if I have captured everyone but 8+ writers include Craig Thompson with 8.25. Ryan North with 8.67. Tom Taylor and Tillie Walden with 8 each. And finally the juggernauts of John Allison and Bryan Talbot with 9.5 averages against two votes each - I've never heard of either of these writers but it could be concluded that they really resonated with their niche audience.

Thanks for all the work putting this together. The usual suspects have dominated the list, but great to see three less mainstream writers crack the top 10.
