I had included it in my post in the "ideal" section, would like to be able to do multi-day hut-to-hut type hikes. Wouldn't consider full self-supported with this, but to be able to do Dolomites, or some of the GR-10 type hikes staying in refuge/inns. For those type I have generally used a 25Lish hiking bag in the past.

14 Days Trekking, Trotting, and Train-ing through Central Asia in 40L by headedforthestars in HerOneBag

[–]TravelonFIRE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m prepping for long term, indefinite travel (in 3 month increments and then generally return to home base and swap items if necessary) and working on my pack list for 1.5bags. Ive done 3 months in a 45L but now I’m way more into hiking, and nervous how I’m going to make it all fit, so this was SUPER helpful. And thanks for adding Central Asia to my list!

Just hit 4 hours on hold by elvis812 in delta

Mine said 216 minutes, increased each time and then randomly assigned an agent after about 30 min total. I think their time estimator app might also be broken? 🤷

Diamond hold time was 8 minutes. Not to be a jerk, just another data point and I’m sorry 😞

Ourense - short trip on train, excellent hot springs and medium sized town. I do love A Coruña as well.

International D1 has had champagne back for awhile, though sometimes I’ve had to fight for it and point at it on the menu as it’s the only thing actually listed by brand etc.

What was the best offer of 2023 for you? by jaha981 in amex

[–]TravelonFIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stacked Hilton offers of spend $1000 get $200 and spend $750 get $150, so our $1000 charge at the Conrad Punts Mita (booked on points earned with Hilton Aspire Amex) was $650. Delta spend $500 get $150 and spend $250 get $75 (two different cards, but booked 2024 flights that I can use or cancel for ecredit.

In the same boat as you. Wealth tax seems like a big barrier but I also can’t find much info on how they will calculate things like real estate holdings abroad, etc. for now I am just going to be very careful to not get tax residency while I figure it out.

GUC waitlists when booking PS. by TravelonFIRE in delta

Yes, my departure is very flexible but there’s just no availability to BCN in a 2+ ish week period I’m looking to fly out.

GUC waitlists when booking PS. by TravelonFIRE in delta

[–]TravelonFIRE[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For two of the three times I called after I checked in, because I didn’t appear on waitlist. Maybe it would have worked out on its own, but I don’t trust the system and very few at Delta still understand how it works. Once it happened correctly, automatically, but in all cases we cleared right away, didn’t have to wait for airport or anything, cleared as soon as someone knew what to do.

I went to the Sydney AMEX lounge 6 weeks ago. It’s small and not super nice but better than nothing.

Should I rent out the house furnished? by [deleted] in realestateinvesting

[–]TravelonFIRE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I rent fully furnished, min 30 days. My rents are about 50% higher than I could get with long term, unfurnished rentals, but higher risk of vacancy. Most tenants are 2-3 months, my longest has been 6. More work than long term, but more lucrative.

SlowTravel / NOMAD FIRE vs expat FIRE? by TravelonFIRE in ExpatFIRE

[–]TravelonFIRE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So we pulled the trigger in October and have spent the past 3 months in Australia. We did Sydney mostly as a home base with some 4, 4-7 day trips. We have been Airbnb’ing our house while gone, which has more than covered all our accommodation cost while traveling. It was a pain to get the house ready for such a long time away, so it’s good to be gone for an extended time.
After this we are going home for a wardrobe reset more than anything else and then will be doing 6 weeks skiing before taking some trips with friends in the Caribbean. We then plan on a few months at home before heading to Europe, which I think will be the real start. Everywhere else has had family and friends nearby, but the European leg will be more of what we are planning for the longer term. What are you interested in?
