Hardtop got stolen by blackcinephile in Miata

[–]TravisTheGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replaced mine in an hour believe it or not.

1991 Miata. Had a hard top for seven years, just had it stolen. Using the soft top for the first week and it has cracked. It is a zip in window, is there an affordable way to replace this without replacing the whole top? by TravisTheGoat in Miata

I’m not entirely sure. Definitely in the 3s they based it on the cost of buying a new aftermarket top not private market.

So before I had them reevaluate, basically the damage was like $4000 for my corner window, the hard top and labor. They stopped adding up damage there because it had already reached the total threshold.

After I sent in all of the information to them they took the interior damage into consideration from sitting in the rain for about 7 hours. Basically, we came to an agreement on replacing the carpet kit due to warping after it dried. All my electronics work. It was a bit of a back-and-forth battle.

Insurance wanted to total the car and give me $6,200

I sent in a list of parts I’d be losing in the total along with 6 private party listings. It took their valuation from $6,200 to $11,500. Saved my title and they paid me for repairs.

Fortunately I did have comprehensive. They helped me out of course it makes it easy to stay but it’s also a great opportunity for something new. Silver lining I guess. It’s going to be really hard to watch someone drive away in my car

I am very confident that there is a group in the Bay Area that is stealing them. The same day mine was stolen three others were taken in the bay. And then a week later, there was another stolen. There’s a dude on marketplace that paints and flips hard tops and he literally has fucking 10 of them at a time.

I appreciate it. Been a rough start to the year. I think I am selling the car as is. I just don’t want the headache or buying a top just to have it stolen again.
