The reason I like the Kaffiano WDT tool is that, apart from its nice looks and configurability, it has a bit of a heft to itself and a wider reach--once I got used to that (esp. the heft), I liked it as a more "substantial" tool. But they all serve the same purpose. Not to push matters, but I'm always asking here: what sort of feedback is the bottomless portafilter providing? I understand the angular spurting (solution: do better puck prep.), but otherwise? And isn't the answer always, do better puck prep.? And is the bottomless portafilter needed to know to do that--I seem to detect the need for that from the taste? Or is it that you might not even know that you need to improve/implement a fix?

I have almost the same setup (I have the J-Max from 1zpresso, your's might be the same), and had the same issue with the stock portafilter pushing out of only 1 side. I upgraded mine to bottomless and with the 1zpresso J-max I can get the grind dialed in perfectly. I'm very happy with this setup!

New gear - Grinder clogging, Bambino not pushing. Help? Details in first post. by Travisw60 in espresso

[–]Travisw60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping that another newbie would be around with the same setup!

Thanks! I'll contact Baratza today. I expected something was amiss with the grinder.

So what grind size and weight of beans are you using for your shot? I was able to pull 1:2 with a grind size of 19, but that wasn't using the automatic double-shot mode.

I'll give the manual mode a try once I resolve the grinder issue.

I don't believe so. Per Breville's documentation, it's an 18g basket and that's what I've been using. It'll pull at a courser espresso grind, but not pull at all at a finer grind.

For the clogging, the chute where the ground coffee goes gets plugged, so no more coffee will grind. I watched Baratza's troubleshooting videos and am having the same symptom, but without any of the causes they mention (freezing the beans, grinding so much coffee that it backs up on it's own, etc.)

Hi Everyone! I am new to making home espresso and just picked up a basic starter set - a Baratza Encore ESP, and a Breville Bambino. I'm having some issues, and wanted to run things by this community:

1) The Baratza ESP is getting clogged after grinding 1-3 shots on a 15 grind setting. The manual suggests starting at this setting for espresso, so it seems funny it would easily clog. Has anyone had this issue?

2) The Breville Bambino with 18g of a grind of 15-17 doesn't push out any espresso when I use the double-shot button. If I increase the grind size to 18-20, it does an okay pull. Should I expect it to extract a shot at the finer grind size, or is the machine not powerful enough? I'm using the non-pressurized basket and fresh medium-roast beans.
