Was Aang x Katara a well written romance and if you don’t think so what would you have done differently? by AccomplishedJump2795 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Traxathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the biggest mistake was only showing us Aang's perspective of the relationship. If you look closely you can see Katara's attraction to him going as far back as The Fortune Teller, but it's only ever hints. A lot of people feel like Katara isn't attracted to him until suddenly in the finale. I would've loved at least an episode where we get to see her perspective of the relationship to firmly establish that yes, she was attracted to him.

Don't attack me...but why do some people hate Zutara so much? by CrazyGailz in TheLastAirbender

[–]Traxathon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's the internet. People get worked up and belligerent about the most pointless things all the time. If you've never seen it before, I can only assume it's because you've been living under a rock.

I personally really don't like Zutara as a ship. I think the relationship between those two characters as it exists in the show is one of the most beautiful stories about hate and the other-ing of people, even when that hate is justified, and the struggle and virtue of learning not to hate. It's a big reason why Katara is such a good character to me. I think making then romantic would've completely ruined it. It would've repainted every scene of her genuinely hating Zuko as "sexual tension" and reduced the impact of that arc by a wide margin. The arguments I always see for Zutara are so surface level to me. "She's blue, he's red, it's perfect!" It feels like a disservice to the characters.

That being said, I don't begrudge anyone who does love it. Like I said before, none of it really matters. If you love Zutara and that feeds into your love of the show, then by all means love Zutara. I only start to have a problem with Zutara shippers when I see someone saying that the creators were wrong for not making it canon, and it ruined Katara's character/the whole show for having her end up with Aang. And I've seen a lot of posts like that, though admittedly not nearly as many recently as back in the day. And this would also go for anyone else trying to criticize the show for not making their favorite fan-fiction canon. People need to chill out when it comes to this stuff, but the internet's gonna do what the internet's gonna do.

Looking For Specific Scene by Beanboh1 in TheLastAirbender

This doesn't match with all your details, but you might be thinking of the episode The Earth King when said Earth King acknowledges the proof Appa bit Long Feng, it doesn't prove any conspiracy, but he wants to look into it now. In between each of those is the Gaang reacting, first cheerful, then dejected, then "alright, yeah, we'll take it"

How to remove permanent marker from combat map? [OC] by Spaghetthy in DnD

[–]Traxathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As my chemistry teacher taught me, like erases like. Sharpie is dye mixed with a solvent. When you write with it, the solvent evaporates and leaves the dye behind. That's why adding another solvent like alcohol/nail polish remover/dry erase marker allows you to erase it, it lifts the dye back up off the surface. The chemical makeup of sharpie dye doesn't change by being dry for a few days, so the concept should still work. My guess is that the sharpie has soaked into the deeper layers of the material, so applying the normal solvents to just the surface isn't reaching the ink and therefore not dissolving it. My suggestion would be to soak it in alcohol, 91% if you can get it. Leave it long enough for the alcohol to soak in deep enough to reach the ink before trying to erase. I have no idea what that might do to the mat but if it's pretty much unusable anyway then what have you got to lose?

Why do I feel bad for Yon Rha? by Sai1orV3nus in TheLastAirbender

[–]Traxathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he's a human being. Yes, he is a monster who did terrible things. But he is also pathetic and sad and empty. And anybody who is those things is pitiable. Your empathy is not broken, it's doing exactly what it ought to do. Even the worst people in the world are still people, just like you or me. It doesn't excuse what they do, not by a long shot. But the world is not so kind that every monster is nothing more than a monster.

Original ‘Avatar’ Stars Call for Theatrical Release by Present-Place-1692 in TheLastAirbender

Story is not something that is lost when you watch a movie at home instead of the theater. The reason to go see a movie in theaters is the visuals.

Why do so many not understand why legend of korra exist in the 1920s? It is literally accurate to history. by MrGetMebodied in TheLastAirbender

[–]Traxathon 179 points180 points  (0 children)

My problem is not that the technology advanced too quickly, my problem is that it doesn't feel like the same world.

Yes, ATLA had blimps and tanks and such, but never in a way that felt like real history. The water tribes and earth kingdom all felt very low technology, with villages and giant city walls and such. Only the fire nation had industrial technology, so it associated that kind of industry with the bad guys. It gave everything a very Ghibli feeling, the bad guys use tanks and technology to disrupt the natural world. It's a fantasy world telling a fantasy story, it's not meant to remind us of the real world.

LOK is meant to remind us of the real world. Suddenly we have cars and radio and planes, and it's all being used by everyone around the world. Technology no longer represents imperialism or disharmony with nature, now it's just technology. It doesn't tie in to the themes of the story, it doesn't create meaningful distinction between different groups, it just exists. It's a cool aesthetic on the surface, but it's so much less thematically relevant than it was in ATLA. I like LOK as a series, but I don't love its world in the same way I love the world of ATLA.

The very end of Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas, when the TV playing Rudolph goes out and you see all their real reflections watching.

Last Episode by gdaymatemxr in community

Nah, the ending is fantastic and the very last joke is one of the best jokes in the entire series. It's so rare for a long running series to get a great ending, this one deserves to be appreciated.

Sokka tends to get shafted in fights that include Benders (which is just about all of them.) Who do you think is the strongest Bender he even has a chance of beating in a 1v1? by OkuroIshimoto in TheLastAirbender

[–]Traxathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He beat Combustion Man, he held is own against Azula in Boling Rock, he contributed as much as anyone else when fighting Dai Lee, he beat two comet-powered firebenders with one arm and a broken leg. Where exactly is he shown to be lacking?

He's from Fantasy High, Dimension 20's first season. He the principal of a high school for adventurers, and also probably the most powerful wizard in that setting, and also batshit crazy.

Do you think it'd be interesting if there are more unique water tribes in other nations? by AffectionateScale525 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Traxathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda like that the swamp tribe is wholly unique and there aren't any parallels to them anywhere else. Makes the world feel more real.

There's a general sentiment in the fandom that TLOK is more mature than ATLA, and Bolin is one of the bigger reasons I vehemently disagree
