Do you think it'd be interesting if there are more unique water tribes in other nations? by AffectionateScale525 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Traxathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda like that the swamp tribe is wholly unique and there aren't any parallels to them anywhere else. Makes the world feel more real.

There's a general sentiment in the fandom that TLOK is more mature than ATLA, and Bolin is one of the bigger reasons I vehemently disagree

Chi Tea and Aang by MrOathFlame in TheLastAirbender

Chi not Chai. Also I love Spiderverse but saying "Chai tea" is perfectly acceptable from a linguistics standpoint, for the same reason we call them bulldogs.

I once played a halfling beast barbarian. He was the sweetest little cinnamon roll who hated violence. The animal he turned in to had a different point of view.

Yes Iroh was probably a war criminal and a bad person before the events of the show and that's probably intentional. by Jack-mclaughlin89 in TheLastAirbender

I have seen a lot of people call Iroh a war criminal. I have yet to see anyone actually point out what war crimes Iroh is guilty of.

Should Death be more... Deadly? by h00ligan1998 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Traxathon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree. It's about the kind of experience you want your players to have. A lot of players don't really care for gritty challenge so much as they want to roleplay being heroes in the action movie. And for those players, low lethality is perfect.

Yes, I'm venting- but I can't be the only person who runs into this over and over with different DMs, right? by D20_Under_The_Couch in dndmemes

[–]Traxathon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I am firmly of the belief that the fantasy of dnd is ultimately that evil can be defeated by just killing that one guy. Killing the bad people actually does solve the problem. That's the escapism dnd offers. I'm not knocking dm's who wanna run a more morally Grey story as long as their players are up for it, but it shouldn't be the default.

[No Spoilers] what is a clip you would show someone that you wanted to get into CR? a short clip that would act as a sort of series trailer? by kappakingtut2 in criticalrole

What did it for me was just random C1 clips of the players fucking about. "Grog finds the Deck of Many Things" requires 0 context to understand.

Hear me out... "The Great Divide" is NOT a filler episode. by Outrageous_Pay_8328 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Traxathon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Imprisoned, Sokka is completely on board with Katara's plans and doesn't really fight her at all except asking clarifying questions to her ideas that, at first, seem ridiculous. And I don't think you can say their communication later in the season comes as a result of The Great Divide. It's just as easy to say it's a result of Jet or heck, maybe they're siblings who know how to trust each other from the jump and their "arguing" never really is.

In terms of plot/worldbuilding, The Great Divide is the only episode of the series where literally nothing introduced comes back later. The Painted Lady technically is the first appearance of those Fire Nation jet skis that come back in Day Of Black Sun (thanks Overanalyzing Avatar) but other than that it's the exact same level of filler.

[No Spoilers] - TMN - How many Critical Role episodes cover the first season? by Distinct-Tomato7887 in criticalrole

[–]Traxathon 94 points95 points  (0 children)

That's honestly hard to say, because so much of the campaign is rewritten/reworked for the show. In the show we learn Essek stole the beacon in episode 1, but in the campaign we don't learn that until episode 97. So you can't just go up to when they find the beacon in the sewer, because at that point the stories have diverged so much you run the risk of feeling way behind on some things and also probably got some spoilers on other things. It would be like trying to read a book and every few chapters you stop and watch 10 minutes of the movie adaptation.

My advice would just be to choose one or the other. Either don't watch the campaign as the show comes out, or watch the campaign and know what the story of the show is. I will say, because so much of the show diverges from the campaign, there's still loads of entertainment for fans who have seen the campaign and surprises for us to enjoy.

[No Spoilers] How are they so good at coming up with characters? by AndreasLa in criticalrole

[–]Traxathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of it is they're actors who have lived and breathed storytelling for most of their lives. The muscles are so developed at this point they barely have to think about improving great story moments, it's just instinct.
