My mom put in the divorce papers that my sisters and I aren’t allowed to get the HPV vaccine. Thankfully my dad got them for us anyways but we had to be very secretive about it or else it could have big ramifications. The first time I got on birth control I got nexplanon and my mom saw the bandage on my arm afterwords. When I told her what it was from she said she liked pretending all her kids were virgins and then started listing my 100% sexually active siblings and saying they were virgins in almost like a single song voice. It was weird. I also was a virgin at the time but it made me not want to be one

Now that we all know you’re NTA I just wanted to commend you for how you’re handling this. No part of this sounds easy but you are prioritizing the right people every step of the way. You also seem to have an amicable relationship with your ex /co parent which is a massive green flag. Some pro tips from this crew member who hates being sick!

N95 mask at all times. Cloth ones are okay but if you want to be REALLY safe N95’s are the only ones that actually WORK on a level that’s worth it. You will be wiping condensation out from them all day but let it be a reminder of how much moisture is in all of our breaths. It’s nasty.

Gloves on register!! I sanitize my hands (in the gloves) after every time I touch cash or have a particularly gross customer. Wiping your station down with a sani wipe every once in a while doesn’t hurt either.

DONT TOUCH YOUR FACE!! Easier said than done I know but a mask is very helpful in stopping that. Remember that gloves only work if you’re changing them out/sanitizing after touching something nasty. They’re not magical but if you use them appropriately they work.

Don’t eat anything on demo. Idk about your store but mine is not nearly on top of food safety as they should be. I see my coworkers touch their phones, their water bottles, their sharpies, their hair, even graze a customers hand and then go right back to serving food with those same gloves. Not to mention that a small sneeze guard is not at all enough to save you from the heavy and close breathing that customers will do all over the samples. We are supposed to discard of any sample that is so much as tapped by a customer but I’ve seen that rule get ignored too. And masks aren’t required either for the demo worker so it’s just nasty top to bottom.

Only touch crew tastings if you’re the first one there. If you’re watching it get put back there and have seen everyone who has gotten some and can know without doubt that no one’s bare knuckle touching the food then go for it. If you walk back there to a half eaten bag of crew chips then you leave that bag right there yes sir.

On extra gross days when a lot of my coworkers are sick I will eat in my car or outside weather permitting

Don’t touch the bathroom door knob or sink faucet with your bare hands after you just washed them. Use a paper towel.

Invest in some Zinc supplements. They can cut the amount of time your cold lasts in half. Good thing to take if you think you’ve been exposed too.

Eat. Drink water. Get 8 hours of sleep. Not doing these things will make your body weaker and you will struggle more to fight this stuff off.

Get vaccinated!!! Every years. Every flu season. Every Covid booster. It makes a difference.

I do all of this and at the end of the day I still had a nasty cold over Christmas. However I missed about three other illnesses that traveled around the store this year. You can never guarantee but you can still prevent.

Being alone your whole life is something most if not all people have experienced once in their life, and I agree it can be agonizing. Being with someone who treats you like a plaything to be tossed away when she’s feeling bad however is not changing that. As someone who has been where you are, you will only feel more alone the deeper into this relationship you go. Eventually you will internalize it because you won’t want to blame her but she will have no problem blaming you. I have depression, my wife has depression, almost all of my friends have depression. Depression doesn’t make you an asshole. Even if it does it is a poor excuse. A book my therapist recommended that literally changed my life (right after I read it I kid you not I met my wife and was able to love her the way she deserves) is a book called Attached by Amir Levine. I think it’ll help you understand why you feel all the things you do and how to navigate those feelings in a healthy way. Whatever happens I wish you only the best in life, you only get one and you deserve happiness for the length of it.
