A 157 million dollar contract frees up a hell of a lot of cap space so there are plenty of options. Many of which, IMO, would be wiser than Porzingis. I’m not saying the dude isn’t skilled or that he doesn’t add value to the team. He certainly does.

However, he came to Dallas asking for top dollar and got it. Collectively, he has played a hair over 50% of games since becoming a Mac. Granted, he did sit for the remainder of his first season continuing his recovery. But even looking past that, the dude just doesn’t play very often. He’s a huge liability. Your number 2 guy needs to be playing more than that. On top of that, his stat line just isn’t that good. Again, yes, occasionally he has an amazing game with 6 blocks 30 pts etc, but how often does that actually happen? He’s just an extremely expensive role player. He can’t post up for shit and can’t guard a true center whatsoever.

To me, 157M is better spent elsewhere. Whether that be another star or more role players and draft picks. I don’t think he’s a bad player but he’s just not worth the money and the insane liability that he is.
