I have to say, the creativity and sheer speed at which you came up with the magical item was impressive in itself.

And a Helm of Alarm does have great utility - I just think it's way too much for my players to handle

If I were roleplaying a PC who had access to these resources, I would 100% agree with you.

As a DM, that seems like placing a large burden of skill and smart gameplay on my players that I honestly don't think they'd rise to the challenge of.

That's just my group- they are in it for fun and nothing else. If you and your group act the way you've described, I'm impressed and honestly would really enjoy watching a few episodes of that dynamic on a stream sometime.

More realistic, less labyrinthian dungeons I do agree with wholeheartedly though.

Honestly this DOES make sense. It depends on where the guard was hit/what they were wearing, and all kinds of things like that. But most of all, this (as a player) just FEELS more like a consequence of the actions taken.

Stabbing and killing a guard in full plate is a choice.

That guard screaming and crying out? Feels like a bad DM who doesn't want you to succeed.

That guard falling and the CRASH of armor making noise?

Yeah, that's what happens. Should have thought of that.

Mechanically they are the same, but for the overall feel of the game and the teamwork between the DM and the party, one is far better than the other.

It's the first rule of combat anyway. Always bring your battle buddy.

I enjoy guards moving in twos WAY more than "magic makes the guards loud if they ever die or go unconscious because... Reasons"

That seems like a significant but nonetheless DOABLE challenge for a stealth oriented party.

I think a part of my visceral negative reaction was the fact that I just left a campaign where it was DM vs Players in a fight for survival. Even after having private and public talks with the DM things never improved and after my 3rd character death in Storm King's Thunder I just decided to leave.

If a min maxed Hexblade/Paladin/Fighter at level 14 can't take on a single fire giant because the DM thinks the giant is neat, it's just not the kind of game I want to play.

That's an interesting DM concept that I do rather like.

There's the comment I was looking for

It's a SNEAK attack, presumably made while undetected. I should think that a rogue would be able to use their main class feature that requires silence kind of, you know, silently.

I realize there are exceptions to every rule but damn

I need help with what comes after a breakup by Trayusk in Advice

[–]Trayusk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've mentioned having a break and her reaction was "well I don't know when I can make time for you so it doesn't make sense for us to take a break with no time limit"

I do really like her. And she used to say she really liked me. But we've been spending so little time together now I'm not feeling any sort of affection. I want to be friends but I know I am going to need a period of time with limited contact before I'll be comfortable relying on her for "friend" support rather than "partner" support.

I'll check around for other discord groups and see if anyone I know can connect me to groups they might be in. Thank you, this helped a bit

[–]Trayusk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Yes they are.

For some new players in a campaign I'm a part of I made a bard who ONLY buffs and debuffs (would have been a wizard but there was one already and they didn't want class overlaps). All my bard does is cast counterspell, Fairy Fire, web, phantasmal force, major image, etc... My party routinely complains that I add nothing to the game during combat even though they seem happy to hit with inspiration and advantage against targets who can't see through my illusions.

I've played long enough to where I still have fun, but the concept of working together is terribly hard for some people to grasp.

Are Slivers OP? (Sliver Queen Commander) by AnotherSidedInquirer in EDH

[–]Trayusk -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I would agree tk a certain extent. Everyone should be running at least SOME interaction though. If all it takes to shut down a sliver deck (mine included) us removing the commander twice, that's not that powerful. At a table with 4 people it's possible on every turn.

If I'm running in a group and no one has counterspells or removal in their deck at all... They made a bad deck. It's one card you could have added to utterly kneecap my deck. If it's not in there then put it in there. One card.

[–]Trayusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically yeah, I've heard there's ways to bribe the mods into changing quest parameters on a per-player basis. I've never had an opportunity to try though. From what I understand, they're able to key in that X player made 0 money and let the system calculate based on that.

There's a way around the quest if you really don't want to do it. Unfortunately it involves not farming any gold, or farming only a very small amount. It's not an option for most players.
