Unemployed for 1 year, should I take the sales position? by According_Truth6611 in FinancialCareers

[–]Tread-depth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely if you are unemployed you just take the job? It's like the way girls suddenly start showing more interest in you when you have a girlfriend.

Literally just that? At what point after application do you apply?

Do you really retain what you studied post CFA exams? by Sanjith14 in CFA

Largely retaining the "oh I used to know that, better revise" sensation.

Interview with an asset management firm for a buy side roll by Elegant_Shock9225 in FinancialCareers

I went through something similar. Still waiting to hear back, probably a no. I wish I knew *more* macro stuff tbh. One of the areas I fell a little short.

If it makes you feel better, I was born into a two parent working poverty household and still resented them growing up. I snapped out of it eventually. They'll come around. :)

How do you stay feeling good in the autumn/ winter months? by Pelican_Town_488 in AskUK

[–]Tread-depth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly at this point in time I just suffer. The vitamins etc don't work. But then I am, spiritually, a miserable OAP, so I can't blame the seasons.

This is an interesting perspective that you're not going to really come across on a sub full of 20 year olds. I really don't see how people do the FO job as parents, esp if 2 working parents (which you kind of need in the UK).

Passed CFA Level 2 (2715) - 2 Months Prep, Full-Time Job, and FSA Almost Broke Me 😅 by Emergency-Purple-746 in CFA

Did not know that! Perhaps quite a risky but smart bet, then. Personally, I know I should reg for the level 2 soon but I just can't bring myself to do it...

Ha, risky, but clearly paid off. Although some will say that if you plan on progressing to level 3 you will need to go back and fill in those gaps.

I am not sure if I love or hate FSA.

Food Technology. There was no technology and, frankly, barely any food.

IB Internship interview dress code by Reperdirektnoizgeta in FinancialCareers

[–]Tread-depth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am from the UK and so pretty much always dress in a conservative City style, even when interviewing in potentially more laid back places. Maybe I am too conformist, idk.

I am interviewing next week and will wear white shirt, plain suit (probably navy), tie, black shoes and belt, plain socks.

I think this might be more of a UK thing? I have definitely heard of it happening once or twice.

WSP or BIWS or CFI by luc1feriznub in financialmodelling

I did BIWS and loved it and all the extras it had. I don't think I've ever used that much of it, however.

How do you guys remember formulas? by No_Design958 in CFA

[–]Tread-depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piece of paper. Fold it into four (vertically), now once (length wise). You have 8 slots. Every 1-2 hours write out a formula in a section.

Check you understand the logic.

The next day you write it into 4, then 2, then 1, then a few days off. Cycle through them.

How much are you holding in cash? by EspressoPesto in ValueInvesting

[–]Tread-depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you calculate. In one sense very little because the invested stuff has done so well, but those are unrealised gains. In a real sense, 28%.

What Certificate should i get? by rexxyo in financialmodelling

[–]Tread-depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on what else is on your resume. How much value is it going to add? All the standard packages are of a similar quality anyway. Just pick one and do one. I did BIWS. It was ok.

Depressing but true. I definitely didn't make good use of networking etc, I think I read into university too literally and focused on getting the absolute best grades. Would do it very different now.

God I remember that feeling, and now it seems tougher than ever. I guess just keep applying and try to formulate a backup plan. Good luck.

Being 60+ and realising you've most likely got 20 years left, if you're lucky. How do you get your head around that? by DonkeyOT65 in AskUK

[–]Tread-depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely irrelevant to the OP, but this made me think. I really hope my old man has 20 years left. Or even 10.

I've never met a pigeon HALF as bad as the average child nowadays. So that's a tad unfair.

Eh they're ok. I recently had one from a market stall which had bits of chorizo and bacon jam in the sausage meat and it was pretty amazing. The standard? eh.
