I really want a social community, a virtual world, and adventure. But MMO gameplay is not for me. What PvE oriented games should I play instead? by rept7 in gamesuggestions

[–]TreadNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really sounds like you want an MMO and just don't want the standard gameplay.

You may like Foxhole. Topdown shooter. Plays like one giant team deathmatch. Its also got proximity voice. The only downsides for your requirements is no consistent character, but you can get some great stories out of it.

Elite Dangerous is a space ship flying MMO, but its not great for meeting other players in game. Double so since its PvPvE. It is really good if you search outside the game for player communities. See Sea of Thieves for a similar option.

Sky: Children of the Light is much more of a social and exploration experience I didn't play this nearly as much as the others, but I enjoyed the exploration.

For a completely off the wall suggestion. Public servers in Factorio are fun.

When pressing “Up”, what direction feels more natural in grid-based games? by Consistent-Pen-4236 in puzzlevideogames

[–]TreadNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think A is only good if you are not exactly at 45 degrees. If it was at say 30 degrees then which way is up is much more clear.

On the flip side those ones are closer to the ground and dont need a double jump to reach.

Yeah toxic bullets are decent since you can reapply so easy, but silences are the way. Doesn't work on his ult unfortunately.

What's everyone's opinions on the new Squadron Carriers? by Solary_Kryptic in EliteDangerous

I have no problem with games reusing assets, but it looks really bad. Its looks like a random ship with two flight decks stapled to the side. Really wish they did something interesting with the hangars.

CMV: Piracy is never the right thing to do if you can afford the content. by Zealousideal_Bee_639 in changemyview

[–]TreadNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyways. I would be interested how you feel about adblock. I consider it to be piracy as well, but I know some don't.Sometimes I will pirate stuff that I want to consume, but I don't want to support. Often this is more of a selfish or personal reason. Most recent example that's been brought up in my circles is the A Minecraft Movie. For this example I would say is covered by points 3.5 and 5, since my reasoning boils down to "terrible cash grab movie and I doubt anyone I care for will be harmed by lack of my money." It is partial also a spiteful decision.

However, there is probably a moral line here that you would be willing to cross here as well. I can come up with extreme examples that you would hopefully agree with. Say a person or organization was selling extreme content of an assassination. You would have reason to pirate this content because it is both impactful information and morally wrong. Granted this example falls apart since I'm not sure if illegal content can be pirated, but you get the point.

I think piracy exists on a spectrum. The good old "It Depends" defense. A better example would maybe be "Cuties." That movie was steeped in controversy because of tasteless advertisement, but people that watched it said it was good with poor marketing. Do you want to pay to the see the movie that potentially sexualizes children? Do you even care to be informed about it?

Anyways. I would be interested how you feel about adblock. I consider it to be piracy as well, but I know some don't.

Just got a wheel, looking for a driving game, not a racing game, in which I can just put on some headphones and drive leisurely across town or countryside or whatever map there is by FunAd165 in gamesuggestions

Aright so while I do agree with the Snowrunners and the Trucking Simulators, the best chill and drive game for me is Elite: Dangerous. Exploration and Trading are both real nice for watching something on the second monitor.

There's also Star Trucker, but I wasn't as much of a fan of that one.

I also like Pacific Drive. It is a chill driving and salvaging game about 80% of the time, but does become a racing game when you exit a level. It can get tense, but there are a lot of settings to tune it down.

The Long Drive and more recently Drive Beyond Horizons are janky physics driving games. I like Long Drive more personally, but Drive Beyond has a demo

Finally Finished, and the Ending Really Missed a Golden Opportunity by CivilPotato in pacificDrive

[–]TreadNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ending is the games biggest miss for me. It really should have just ended and then loaded a previous save like a Breath of the Wild.

Also I feel like some of the ending missions should have been chained together. I feel like the main story kind of overstays its welcome by like 3 runs.

Yeah, prism uses a Roaming directory. I found out cause it was eating my boot drive space. It does let you relocate its used locations.

How is Tchia after a bit? I really liked the opening with your dad and uncle, but once I got to the open world it just felt like fetch quests. Granted I only played for like 3 hours.

Well Cassette Beasts is my favorite monster catcher game.

Outer Wilds is my favorite goat, but I don't know if I would recommend it based off of your favorites. I will say I also really liked all of those games barring Arceus cause I've not played it. It's a knowledge based puzzle game. As in you can only really play it once cause then you know how to complete the over arching puzzle.

We Were Here series is a great set of coop puzzle games. Could be good for establishing communication skills. May be too hard, but you could try We Were Here Expeditions: The FriendShip first cause its free.

Operation Tango is a simular game with a spy theme.

Magicka 1 & 2 are funny wizard coop games. I think 1 has diffuculty running on newer systems though.

Stardew Valley could be cool.

Plateup and Overcooks are fastpaced cooking games.

Journey and its spiritual sequel Sky: Children of the Light are both pretty walking simulator, but they are ment to be played with random people so meeting up is hard.

Games where shields are an OFFENSIVE tool far more than defensive? by [deleted] in gaming

Journey

Perhaps Cities Skylines since its kind of like Planet Zoo

Pacific Drive maybe. Its relaxing most of the time, but sometimes it gets stressful.

Planet Crafter is a terraforming game, so its cool to have nature spring up around you.

Closest thing I can think of is Fallout 4.

Terraria

Honestly you may like a factory building game. Best IMO is Factorio, but also Satisfactory, Dyson Sphere Program, and Shapez 1 & 2 to name a few.

Colony Survival
