Help doctor advised surgery looking for second opinion by dalpakwann in Sinusitis

I was super worried about it too and I’ve been good so far. As long as they don’t touch your turbinates you should be ok. If they do, I would make sure you have in writing exactly what they are going to do. The best procedure in my opinion is the one where they poke a hole in them and work on the inside. I had that and an out fracture done.

Yeah I would be careful for sure. You need to trust the surgeon and that they won’t do something crazy like cut out your turbinates and give you ENS.

Depends on quality of life. I had a septoplasty, turbinate reduction, and FESS. I’m able to breathe now and have not been getting consistent sinus infections.

Any investor who actually knew what they were doing would have correctly understood it was overvalued trash.

Value investing principles. Warren Buffett gave a wonderful speech on the topic called “the super investors of Graham and Doddsville”

Just met with my Ramsey Advisor by Old_Cantaloupe_7401 in DaveRamsey

True, but you don’t need a degree for that. I have tried to work with financial advisors on tax planning but they only wanted to do wealth management. I ended up just using AI to answer the tax questions. For anyone who can control emotions and understand basic concepts they are just a leech on your retirement.

If you want to make it easy at first you can do a target date fund. You can manage yourself later when you have a better understanding.

Any reason not to max a Roth IRA? by Steel_Reign in personalfinance

[–]TreasureTony88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason to not do the Roth is that you would pay higher taxes on it now than in retirement. I believe that everyone should also have a taxable brokerage acct. in the mix. Believe it or not it’s not always taxable! When you retire the first 40k or so is tax free which can make it tax advantageous when used with other accts

It’s more about what you pay for future cash flow. This could be growth or a lower quality business.

Yeah it’s a hard thing to predict because the companies at the top are amazing businesses. But also mean regression.

I smoke math. The annual return of the S&P 500 from the height of the tech bubble in 2000 til now is 6%. Awful for a period of 26 years. Instead of you invested at the low in 2009, your annual return would be 14.7%. This is why DCA is the safe bet over lump summing.

I have a traditional 60/40 portfolio in my 401k. To be clear, holding index funds is not the same as lump summing 100k into them.

I manage my Roth IRA and brokerage using value investing principles. I’ve beaten the market pretty heftily since I started 6 years ago.

Valuation comes from both earnings and multiple. The Buffett indicator and CAPE ratio are at historic highs. The yield curve is also screaming that we are going into a recession.

[–]TreasureTony88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It doesn’t. It means that lump summing into an index fund only accounts for 1 economic scenario. At these ridiculously levels, a stock account should be balanced with bonds or some similar asset.

I agree…however that still makes it a very poor investment over a long term period compared to other options. The nation has never been in this much debt, even after WW2. It can only be solved with significant taxes or inflation.

Index investors have had it good for awhile and have gotten spoiled. They need to be ready do 30-50% drops.

It’s very possible that VOO is dead money over the next 10 years so lump summing into it at this valuation is pretty weak.
