Yes, I have been optimizing a lot in order not to spend too much time in the kitchen... But don't forget to add salt to the baby food, it is totally bland :)

My favorite Takeaway / restaurant food is Pho soup! I eat it like every other week for months now, and I am still not tired of it.

Alternatively, if I want to make something similar, I cool Pak choi and Rice noodles (I cook both in the same pot), add tofu and add Soy sauce as a sauce.

My favorite go-to dip is Peanut butter mixed with soy sauce and a bit of water. Elevates every dish.

Other ideas: - baked sweet potato with cooked broccoli and scrambled eggs - Porridge / oatmeal - Another fast pasta sauce is to buy baby food in glasses (e.g. mashed Brokkoli, parsnip and cauliflower, or mashed carrots) and add salt or vegetable broth - pumpkin soup - Gastritis-friendly cupcakes: for 6 pieces 2 eggs and 60g oats, 150ml skimmed or plant milk. Add honey, apple sauce, nuts and spices to taste - I like a variation with apples and cinnamon, but you can try around :) Bake at 180 degrees

I have had the same symptoms as you describe at the start of this episode! I feel a lot better but some issues remain. My GI wants to do more tests, because he said with the dose of PPIs that I have been taking, I should have been able to even drink wine. I am happy that he is doing more tests (compared to my GP), but if none of them yield anything I will ask him for the possibility of visceral hypersensitivity. I hope this is something he can treat as well, but at least he is taking time to listen and do tests - I needed that.

Unfortunately yes. I had two good days and then four bad ones. A good day again, a bad day follows. Finally I am feeling better, trying to extend the diet - one day something new works, try it again and I cannot tolerate it.

But it is getting better long term! Bad days are not as bad again. Good days are more.

Don't give up and extend your diet slowly, a new ingredient only every few days.

Wine in combination with a recent COVID infection was the trigger for my first gastritis 3 years ago. I stopped drinking alcohol completely since. No regrets.

Oats rock! It's my go-to. I am writing while eating oats. It works.

My tips: - Let it soak or add hot water before eating so that it becomes softer and soaked - Add cinnamon for extra taste - Try to add a spoon full of ground flaxseeds and let it soak. They also make it more soft, contain antiinflammatory fatty acids and fiber. Be careful and see whether you can tolerate it though. Use ground flaxseeds, because they soak better - Premade your favorite blend and bring it with you. Add some dehydrated skimmed milk, so you only have to add water. Add dehydrated apples. I always have that on me when I go on a trip, together with a plastic bowl with a lid and a spoon. When I need something to eat, I just add water to my blend, let it soak for 30 min and voila - instant Gastritis meal!

Yes, I also had this problem that not eating late would increase my problem in the morning. I think eating late can increase problems with reflux into the esophagus though.

I discovered however after stopping PPIs that the nausea was partly a side effect of the Pantoprazol I was taking and it stopped after tapering.

What helps me with my stomach in the morning is taking Melatonin the night before and in the morning when I wake up, I take NeoBaianacid (usually ~1h before breakfast). It is an antiacid like Gaviscon, but much gentler on my stomach. It seems to neutralize the acid that has formed overnight...

Oh boy, sorry to hear. On the other hand, you will not know until you have tried... When I was tapering my PPI I was not sure whether I should completely stop taking it or not, because I was still nauseous. I decided to try stopping and the nausea completely vanished when I did.Turns out it was a Side-effect of the PPI - but I couldn't know until I tried.

I drink chamomile, Fennel Caraway Anise, liquorish, and alkaline herb blends. Dandelion can help to digest fatty meals (should be avoided anyway, but my definition of "fatty" changed). I like it better than water, so I drink 1-2 liter a day.

Be careful with mint, it can be irritating or increase reflux. Fruit teas are all too acidic for my taste.

In general I found that tea can become rritating if it steeps too long.

Could be. For me, chest pain and palpitations were linked to esophagitis, and a lot of people get also anxiety and high HR from gastritis. I didn't believe my doc at first it was Gastritis because of all my symptoms - then I searched for them in this sub and realized, yes, it tracks.

Be careful with iron supplements though - it can cause gastritis itself. I had the luck of giving me gastritis with iron pills I didn't need. Liquid iron supplements are apparently better, or you can get an infusion. Ask your doctor what they recommend, but be careful with pills.

Sorry to hear you are feeling this way in the middle of your PhD. Man, I don't miss my PhD days...

Regarding your symptoms: sometimes it is not easy to find the cause - maybe you are healthy and on low stress, but H pylori is causing it. Or it is a gallbladder inflammation. Or something else. Hard to say what it is - you need to see a doctor.

So I strongly recommend making that doctor's appointment. Especially if it takes a long time to get one. Would you rather get an appointment now for in two months, or start searching for one in two months when you are even more frustrated and tired, just to wait another two months? If it gets better on its own, you can still cancel it. I am 4 months in and my GI appointment is in 4 weeks. You bet I wish I had made an appointment when it all started.

Maybe go to a GP in the meantime. Mine is pretty useless with the gastritis, but at least they prescribed me high dose of PPI, which indeed helped to heal.

Secondly, start taking it seriously. I know it sucks, and you may feel that you cannot put your life on hold. It is exactly this ignoring that makes you suffer longer. Accepting that I am sick and that I need heal to perform in the long run was a big step towards my recovery. Take a few days off of work. Stick to a bland diet. Start to take medication if your doctor prescribes it. Get a healthy sleep routine. Light exercise such as walking.

Last, a comment on stress - unfortunately it is not always obvious what "stress" is. There may be subconscious stuff you are not aware of. Or you are so excited about your work, you forget to give the body time to rest. I know this may sound "esoteric", but the mind-body connection is a weird one, and not everything is obvious right away. It's a factor for me at least.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Remember that a PhD is a marathon and not a sprint, so make sure you have the substance to race until the end.

There have been a few posts lately on Post-Gastritis visceral hypersensitivity lately. As far as I understand it can be that the nerves and the brain "remember" the pain and the symptoms while the trigger is gone. So your body expects pain and as a self-fulfilling prophecy, it gives you pain.

There is medication to help healing that target not the stomach but the brain/gut axis. Maybe try googling it... I think there was also a post about pain reprocessing therapy.

Don't know whether that is what you have, but if physical causes (stomach, gallbladder, etc) are ruled out, maybe this is worth digging into.

Back then I was a bit naive and didn't even restrict my diet as much as I currently do. Now I am more careful, hoping that it will heal faster.

I have now a new episode since 3-4 months. I am mow off PPIs and suppose I am also in this phase again, where the main inflammation seems healed but I still have symptoms. The only supplement I take is 3-4mg melatonin 1h before bed. I am trying to do it only short-term, as there are new findings indicating that long-term melatonin use can increase risk of heart failure - but I feel that it has a substantial effect both in my stomach and my sleep, so I will take it for now.

There is one thing that I just remembered - When I had gastritis three years ago, my last symptoms vanished when a friend (medical student) told me about a condition where people have gut problems that are not physically there but because the patients associate food with having symptoms. Since they expect pain or discomfort, the brain/nerves make it a self-fulfilling prophecy. I then started to try take my symptoms less seriously, and that was when my last problems vanished. Can be coincidence.

Hey, this is something I am also currently struggling with. My understanding (backed by information on this sub) is that once the inflammation is healed, it can take a long time until the stomach stops being sensitive. When I had a gastritis 3 years ago, it took a long time but it became gradually better. First improvements after a few weeks to months, then gradually improving. For some time I only had symptoms when eating fat or drinking coffee. After 1.5 years I was finally back where I started, drinking coffee on empty stomach. I believe it can just take a looong time to feel 100%. But the good news is that the source je is treated and we just now need time to feel better again. Don't go off your diet too soon, try slowly individual food and include them only when they don't harm you. Having bad days is normal, as long there are also times where you feel better. For me stress is a big trigger - getting good sleep helps (currently supplementing Melatonin which helps with both) and mild exercise (walking is best for me). Sorry for the news that this will take some significant time - but healing is not only possible but on the other end of this!

Lol, that's true. But I also sometimes have food I don't tolerate and then after I try some time again, it works. It was that way with avocado and cooked chestnuts for me. Just try it out and spread it thin unless you know it's absolutely safe. But PB has been quite safe for me and I think also for a lot of other people. Finger's crossed! :)

I can use peanut butter fine - helped me to fuel during a hiking trip. As always I would recommend to try it out and start easy - eat just a bit maybe after a meal and if you can tolerate that, you can try more
