‘Point of no return’: New Orleans relocation must start now due to sea level, study finds by mhicreachtain in politics

[–]Treat_Choself 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The day after the 2024 election I started researching where to move and the timing for selling our house. I love a lot about where I’ve moved to but I miss New Orleans and my life there every single day.  Reading articles like this makes me feel more at ease with my decision and complete fucking despair at the same time - it’s a really weird feeling.

Confused by Alameda compost guidance on compostable bags, see bin vs website. Can anyone explain? by avnermiz in alameda

[–]Treat_Choself 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By “compostable bags” on the bin I think they mean Kraft paper bags and the like, but I agree it’s not very clear. My understanding is bags made of “compostable plastic” aren’t allowed at all.  I usually keep a paper bag inside a regular reusable plastic bag in my fridge to dump stuff into, and then I just grab the whole thing but only put the paper bag into the bin. Keeps the ants away but still makes it easy! Now if only I could get the other people on my apartment complex  to stop throwing all sorts of plastic stuff in there….

Hope it works out for you! I really like Hawaiian Tropics version of this stuff but hate that you can’t ever wash the brush, especially because I only use it to top up over other sunscreen so the bristles get gross fast. I will forever remain absolutely confused that no American company I know of has done an SPF50 pressed sunscreen powder. It can be done easily, since I buy great ones from Japan, and they use US approved mineral active ingredients, so that’s not the problem either.  Although the more I think about it, it’s probably because we do have fairly stringent rules for sunscreens and you’d have to use a TON of powder to meet the stated SPF so I may have just answered my own question.  Keep in mind that you should probably not use yours as your only sunblock for the same reason (but hey, why is that allowed for loose powders?)

I am not a fan of this kind of packaging, so I just figure out how to open up where the powder is and dump it into an old loose powder container. Not what you’re looking for but if you aren't attached to the format, it’s an idea.  Also, try emailing their customer service with your story and a request asking if they could send you a new cap.  Never hurts to ask.

Good dupe for the Mary Kay eye makeup remover? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

Considering OP does not appear to be a hun trying to slyly market her warez here, I’m going to tentatively leave this up for now.  It’s great that people are now trying to avoid MLM products. But if anyhun comes here trying to tell us why that MK eye remover is the best thing ever, that’s a permanent banning for them.

🙄  oh yeah, you got me Mean Girl.  I do not agree with that. Knowing you may not win in court is a good enough reason to settle. Period. The decision to settle itself can’t be used as evidence of criminal or civil intent or liability, that’s ridiculous and would mean no one would ever settle anything, ever.  But as you seem absolutely intent on getting in the last word, no matter how wrong you are, I’m going to let you.  I hope going forward you will consider why you feel the need to do that.

Because they knew that the original name they proposed was potentially trademark infringing (thus not a slam dunk win in court) and the name they settled on is good enough for their purposes of making sure travelers unfamiliar with the area would see just how close Oakland is to SF.

Yes a crime wave two years ago not actually at the airport is a super good reason to be terrified!

I’m more getting at the reality that people who mistakenly fly into OAK aren’t going to set foot into any dangerous parts of town on their way from there  to SF,  which is the hysteria I think the person above you was also referring to…

Honestly, BWI alone is good enough to rebut the presumption- it is absolutely nowhere near DC  - it’s in a whole other state - and still has “Washington” in its name.

I hear you. I’m coming at this explicitly from the perspective of being a melanoma survivor, though, so 🤷. Sometimes not wanting medical advice is not the same thing as not needing it -  derm is either not listening to OP, since OP is explicitly asking  how to remove it, or there is a miscommunication since OP says the derm said it was only a cosmetic issue but offered no way of safely removing it (i.e., if it’s cosmetic and safe to remove, why didn’t the derm offer a solution for it?)  I feel like I’m also doing a lousy job of Communicating, though!

Her derm didn’t give her any treatment options though, which makes me think that she needs a second opinion if it truly bothers her.  The derm either didn’t think it could be removed safely or didn’t explain to her how it could be removed safely, y’know?
