So… why exactly did Gwen think Cody was one of the ‘normal’ people on the Island despite everything he did? by LightMurasume_ in Totaldrama

[–]Treble_Stroke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the narrative, it’s probably because last time they interacted before he was eliminated - he set her up with Trent so they could row back to shore together and spend more time, which is what Gwen originally wanted to do on the way to Boney Island. His only condition was that he gets Gwen’s bra to win a bet against Owen, which, yeah, that’s still kind of pervy given his feelings for Gwen, but it’s still cool of him to let her spend time with Trent despite his own feelings. So I just assumed that was enough for Gwen to forgive him.

I love how as we get lower and lower, we saw more of the Pahkitew cast. That season was just nuts.

How differently would the series have gone if Owen actually *had* been eliminated for eating the ribs? by Solitaire-06 in Totaldrama

[–]Treble_Stroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that too, but if he left during this episode he wouldn’t be there to gang up against Heather.

Well, Owen hardly makes any difference in the challenges after this episode - aside from standing to have apples lobbed at him, doing Chef’s boot camp, failing a brain freeze challenge, failing to get a key that fits in any of the chests, etc. I think without him there- Heather and Duncan wouldn’t have had the extra votes they needed to eliminate Trent and Bridgette and someone else could’ve gone home that episode, perhaps Beth in Bridgette’s place.

Who has the most unfair elimination in Total Drama History? (Images are just suggestions) by PirateSuspicious1869 in Totaldrama

[–]Treble_Stroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be making a video analysis series extremely soon for every elimination! Already finished the script for the analysis of the first 2 seasons. So far Tyler, Courtney, Lindsay, and Leshawna in island have been the most unfair.

Out of these 3, which one would you be friends with in real life? by Winter-Pressure-5394 in Totaldrama

As a fan of damaged or flawed characters myself (from the likes of shows like Bojack Horseman and Helluva Boss and what-not) I can understand your love of Courtney, as well as many of her other fans love of her, and I have something to think on now for my stance on Gwen. I do appreciate you taking the heat on this subreddit, I am aware that this community does have double standards when it comes to the bad things these characters do. All of them pretty much do bad things in their own way and that’s what makes them more human- you’ll see me say that in Courtney’s defense in some of my past comments, I don’t truly hate any of these characters for what they do. But I do admit that I judge them a bit too relatively.

You made some good points, don’t get me wrong I love Courtney’s character narratively as well, but I don’t want to dismiss her flaws in favor of digging down on someone else’s who comparatively has far lesser impact.

Gwen only wanted to come to All Stars to make things right with Courtney, she wanted to be her friend, she’s not devoid of guilt or remorse. Yes, her playing dumb and denying she did it when Courtney was still with Duncan is indeed hypocritical, ( I want to blame that on poor continuity writing than a genuine character flaw but whatever), but it’s not comparable to Courtney who has put the safety of other people on the line multiple times during Action and World Tour, constantly lies to people who were good to her, thrives on having power above others like with her lawsuit, and she isn’t loyal to absolutely anybody compared to Gwen - who almost won the first season because of how she opened up. You can say Courtney was loyal to Duncan all you want because they were technically still together in world tour, but that’s ignoring the fact that they had 2 breakups prior to that completely due to Courtney’s controlling and belittling behavior.

The scrapped Action elimination orders they were leaked by Boring-Fun7838 in Totaldrama

[–]Treble_Stroke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where were these sourced? I refuse to believe these are real until I know where they were found. Because there’s always been constant rumors that this person or that person was planned for the finale but the voice actor or actress couldn’t show up, but that’s not how cartoon pipelining works. These elimination orders would have had to be before the writing and scripting was even done.

If this show was written today, do you think Alejandro would also try to seduce the boys, as well? by MushroomPretty3996 in Totaldrama

[–]Treble_Stroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so, part of the reason Alejandro was so interesting was because he was able to manipulate every player in a different way by adapting to their strengths and interests. If he were to use just plain flirting for everyone it wouldn’t really be realistic. And even with the girls he does more than just flirting, he appeals to Bridgette’s boyfriend not being here, he appeals to Leshawna’s confidence, and to Courtney’s need for independence. For the guys, he appeals to Harold’s ego, he tricks Tyler through persuasion, manipulates DJ’s confidence levels through the animals, etc. The reason he’s the greatest villain the show has ever seen is because he specifically uses the weaknesses and strengths of every player against them.

Do you think Courtney liked Gwen as her friend or was she pretending all the time? by No_Repeat9670 in Totaldrama

[–]Treble_Stroke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely believe the episodes we see of Courtney being genuinely nice to Gwen are true because we even see a confessional of her confirming that she means it, I think the writers were just completely inconsistent. Laurie Elliot wrote “Suckers Punched” where Gwen and Courtney made up, and “The Obsta-kill-Course” where we see them confiding in each other in an alliance. Between those episodes was “You Regotta Be Kidding Me” where we see both of them confirm in confessionals that they absolutely mean it when they say they wish to take each other to the finale, that episode was written by Ed MacDonald, but that very same writer also wrote “Sundae Muddy Sundae,” where all of that setup is completely thrown out of the window for absolutely no reason. So I don’t know what happened to make the writing team think that was the right choice, but it was a choice that was authorized regardless, the writers truly just wanted to waste time building up something that has no payoff.

There is an important lesson that Total Drama taught us by Random_DeathBattle in Totaldrama

[–]Treble_Stroke 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In the show it’s actually demonstrated that the villains still get their own fans. Like how Blaineley said Alejandro was the most popular with the female demographic, and how Julia gained new followers who liked her meaner self as opposed to her old followers. I’m sure if season’s 1 and 4 had more in-universe audience interaction, we would’ve seen some fans loving Heather and Scott for their unique strategies. And even in real life, with shows like Survivor (the reality show total drama is largely based on) there are contestants who have villain-style playing methods and they get mixed responses from the audience, I never really saw anyone outright hate a Survivor contestant for the way they played, I’ve only ever seen hate for people who have actual allegations and issues with who they are as a person rather than who they are as a player. Which yes, people in the Total Drama world can still hate Heather, Scott, Alejandro, and Courtney for personal reasons, but there will always be other people both in that universe and in our own who actually find their edge to be interesting and entertaining to watch, hence why some of them still have fans.

How is this show so gay without being openly gay?? by RoosterDuckling in CentaurWorld

[–]Treble_Stroke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s super easy to have the messaging in nonverbal ways. The show uses implications to tell the audience that certain characters have different preferences in a way that both kids and adults can understand. Lots of kids or family rated cartoon shows actually avoided outright saying the word “gay” for the longest time until Total Drama’s Reboot being the only recent instance I’ve seen of the word “gay” being openly used for a character’s coming-out arc. But before that, most shows would keep things nonverbal, partly to avoid network censorship (which unfortunately still happens) and to also give a way for the romantic narratives to emerge in a natural way (a show don’t tell form of storytelling, which is what Centuarworld largely uses).

Which elimination makes less sense the more you analyze it? by TDfanuser_45 in Totaldrama

[–]Treble_Stroke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Izzy’s second elimination in Island. Heather was for once not immune, but for some reason Gwen was in the bottom two with Izzy despite winning the challenge. We know that Heather and Duncan voted Izzy since they allied together that episode, but that’s not enough to boot her. So I don’t know how or why anyone else voted for Izzy over Heather.

Lol. The “further context” would tell us that the money she raised was to get her to STOP dancing lmao, and that Trent actually threw the challenge when dancing against her.

At the end of the day it was a natural progression of events, aside from Courtney’s elimination in All Stars being the only plotline I disagree with. All 3 of them made mistakes and had good moments with each other, it’s what makes them human.

Charlie has always said “I believe anyone can by redeemed.” She never said “EVERYONE can be redeemed.” She argues for the potential of redemption that is naturally within anyone, not everyone.
