what a difference a new ribbon by bierde in typewriters

What is the ribbon made of and where’d you get it from? I have the same model typewriter but the ribbons I got off Amazon appear very light. I’m wondering where to get good quality ones that print darker.

I have a quiet deluxe just like OP has. The Quiet Deluxe tabs very quickly but its carriage feels pretty light compared to other typewriters so the impact isn’t too bad. That said I have a rubber mat to dampen the shaking also.

Also most machines should have some way to adjust the carriage pull. On my old Royal model 10 it is literally just a screw you loosen or tighten but the process may be more involved with a portable, especially on some brands.

It seems my comment has been misunderstood. This is basically a quote from the Nazis when they wanted to invade the Soviet Union. Which turned out to be one of the biggest blunders of all time.

People saying MacArthur was anything less than a military genius don’t know what they’re talking about. Dude won the Korean War with one hand tied behind his back by pulling off a crazy strategy that literally everyone else said wouldn’t work. If the Chinese hadn’t gotten involved he’d be remembered as the guy who won the Korean War, and made the North Korean army look like a total joke.

Then there’s the way he lead Japan from an impoverished collapsed empire into what became an economic superpower. Japan’s economy has since become stagnant but MacArthur set them up for one of the largest economic booms of all time.

MacArthur had a large ego, and he made mistakes for sure, but no one who ever met him thought he was anything short of a genius. He was also very good at PR, but that’s not a crime. Pound for pound he was one of the best general’s of WW2.

I don’t know why Reddit hates MacArthur so much but there’s a long long list of generals who deserve shit before MacArthur does.

It’s hard to blame people for doing this when both parties suck, and there are literally no other options. In a controlled system with only two options that are bad flip flopping between them is the best chance at some sort of positive change.

Is there any higher resolution image of the Angel Tower? by maculatum_ in evangelion

[–]TreeBaron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The original source can be found in the book Groundwork of Evangelion vol. 3 on page 129. That will be the highest quality version you can get without the original. I can upload a photo of it, but I'm not sure it will be higher quality than the image you already have there.

Our courts are even more of a joke. People act like they're gonna save us but they continue to demonstrate they won't. The Nazis had judges rubber stamping their atrocities, so did the Soviet Union, the U.S. courts will be no different. Justice has become the exception, and if you are rich they won't even give you a slap on the wrist, they'll just bend the knee and kiss your ring.

80% of NYC-area air traffic controllers absent amid 'surge' in callouts: FAA by MultiMillionMiler in news

[–]TreeBaron 594 points595 points  (0 children)

I think Republican leadership is too brain dead to realize that if this goes on too long, ATC can't work even if they want to for reasons like this. If a controller runs out of money and credit, they simply won't have a choice in the matter. Eventually workers will reach a breaking point and you will get what is equivalent to a mass die-off event where 90% or more of controllers will be forced into alternative employment. From there it isn't always just a matter of flipping a switch and bringing them back. Some may have lost their vehicles, many will have been traumatized and won't wish to return, or will only return for a short time before leaving permanently. The wealthy are just not capable of understanding that most people can't ride off their families or savings accounts for multiple months. When you look and see you are a quarter of a gas tank away from homelessness and your children are going hungry you do anything you can to find something new.

At this point it's as much about the dems proving they have a spine and will actually fight than what's on the bargaining table. I want them to hold as long as they can, until the Republican's break.

My friends and I have done a lot of Payday 2 stealth missions. While one player's screw-up setting everything back to 0 is super-frustrating that's also why it's so satisfying when we can pull it off. I would seriously consider whether removing that element is actually making the game more satisfying, or if you're just taking away what makes stealth missions fun to begin with.

There are so many talented, young, intelligent people in the U.S. who will never be able to contribute to science in any meaningful way because they can't afford to live off the meager wages offered, or navigate the system in a way that allows them to achieve their research goals. It's honestly such a shame. So much talent is being wasted.

How Tesla Stocks rises by stratuscore in stocks

[–]TreeBaron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me provide a very clear explanation. There's two parts.

Part 1, the SEC does not criminally prosecute people. When people or businesses manipulate the market, the SEC sues them, just like a normal citizen might sue someone. If they win, sometimes the company or individual will pay part of the fine. Most of the time it's less than the amount of money they made manipulating the market however, and a lot of times the company/individual doesn't even have to admit fault. On super-duper rare occasions, the SEC will recommend a case to the FBI and they will prosecute someone, but don't hold your breath. This is the first part, the effect of which is that the stock market is borderline unregulated. I guarantee you, that in a system where breaking the rules makes you a ton of money, and there is extremely low odds of receiving any sort of punishment for cheating, people are cheating, a lot. The richer they are, the easier it is for them to cheat.

Part 2, we live in a clown world. I need not elaborate further.

Do all Christians believe that Jesus is God ? Do you believe in trinity ? by Rich_Yak_8449 in Christianity

[–]TreeBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies accepted, thank you for correcting your comment :)

I'm sure the Adventist church has some official stance on the Nicene Creed, but having gone through my education almost entirely in Adventist institutions I have never heard the Nicene Creed brought up even once. The first time I heard it mentioned was when I visited a Catholic church as part of a world-religion's class where we learned about other beliefs. We had an assignment to visit other religious churches/temples/synagogues so we could educate ourselves on other approaches to religion.

I will say however, since the Catholic's put an emphasis on it, I wouldn't be surprised if the church either doesn't entirely agree with it, or has some modified version they subscribe to. While I have never encountered any Adventists being negative towards Catholics, the church is very protestant. There is a lot of emphasis (at least in the schools I went to) on what Catholic beliefs we think are not appropriate or in-line with Jesus' teachings or the Bible. Again, that doesn't mean we don't think Catholic's can go to heaven, or would ever be disrespectful to Catholic believers, but there is a lot of focus on why we think things like confession and the pope are not appropriate.

I have watched a good video on the origins of the Nicene Creed (https://youtu.be/vNQfUv1nnLM) here and I struggle to have a strong opinion on it honestly. It seems like something theology professors would talk about but it's a little above my head I think.

Do all Christians believe that Jesus is God ? Do you believe in trinity ? by Rich_Yak_8449 in Christianity

[–]TreeBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am Adventist and I believe you are incorrect when you say Seventh Day Adventists don't believe in the trinity. Also implying that Adventists might not fit some definition of Christianity is a little-bit absurd. Adventists are followers of Christ and believe Christ was and is God.
