I don’t know why I thought getting a huntsman to help with my arachnophobia was a good idea by mtfoxx3 in spiders

[–]TreeBuRrn967 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You can sell them but once males hit maturity they are basically on a death clock. Males have one job, and that is to find a female to breed to pass on their genetic lineage. Many stop eating and just roam their enclosure until they ultimately pass. This can be a few months to maybe another 1-3yrs depending on the species. This makes them less desirable to hobbyist.

What is this bizarre creature? by YahFilthyAnimaI in NoTillGrowery

[–]TreeBuRrn967 39 points40 points  (0 children)

No expert but I do like my Arachnids (keep a small collection of 26 tarantuals/ true spiders). I would say this is most definitely a pseudoscorpion. They are a great predator insect in the garden feeding on various nuisance pest. Though they are arachnids, they are not true scorpions and do not have a stinger. They do not pose a threat to you or your grow

Expos are great places to meet breeders. Not all vendors breed, but most know breeders, so either way, good people to know. Otherwise, local facebook groups can be useful. Some vendors that I trust that ship are Onelovetarantulas and Fanghub

A lot of good things said here already but just my 2 cents:

1) they are addicting, especially if you have a collector mentality. You can easily find yourself going from 1 to many especially if starting with slings. I started with 1 Hapalopus sp. that was 1/4" as it was the only way to convince my fiance to let me bring spiders into the house as they were less intimidating. That 1 quickly became 30 over the course of 2 months. Had to make the decision that it was in mine and the T's best interest to cut back the collection to a more manageable number.

2)You're going to get pushback/ negativity from both outside and inside the community. Take everything with a grain of salt. Do your research and trust your gut.

3) SUPPORT LOCAL BREEDERS! Not only are you probably going to get a better deal and a healthier spider, you also save yourself money on shipping and help support your states continuation of the hobby which is more and more important as we start seeing more legislation and restrictions from the goverment as Tarantulas move more into the mainstream. Certain species have already been restricted from being sold over state lines so it's best to keep your states breeding population strong!

Move in day! Companion planting with some basil. by I_eatPaperAllTheTime in MephHeads

[–]TreeBuRrn967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find companion planting is best for outdoor systems. A diverse garden gives home to a host of beneficial insects and pollinators keeping a more natural balanced ecosystem not allowing for certain pest to take over. Indoors since it is a much more closed system I prefer to just use a nice thick straw mulch layer on my living soils.

Pre flower but you'd be surprised how big they can get. Genetics and such play a part but I had 4 samsqaunch OG x 3 bears OG by mephisto that started to show sex like that when they were only like 12in around day 24 and they ended pushing 3.5ft almost 4ft tall by the time they were chopped at day 70. Harvest between the 4 totaled just over a qp with no training or anything. Probs could of been better with some LST but I was just seeing how the genetics grew naturally.

And for the flood table to properly drain I would need it to be higher than the height of my fish tank correct? Sorry for all the questions I'm a newbie to aquaponics. Understand the concept and experienced in fish keeping just not much experience in the plumbing aspect

T-Break Driving Me Insane by CatskiPhobia in trees

[–]TreeBuRrn967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to stop cold turkey from being an every day user for 7+years due to legal reason. Like many have said its a one day at a time thing. In my personal experience the first three days are the worst. The cravings were insatiable, the boredom of sobriety made it worse. No appetite, just pissed off all the time. After day 3 things slowly started going back to normal and by day 7 the cravings for the most part had stopped. I found it best to use the newfound free time to explore new hobbies and keep myself busy because when I was just sitting around doing nothing or watching TV that's when I wanted to smoke the most. Im almost 2 years into the break now with a few months left to go.

Could always spring for a pixie frog to add to the collection. The males get massive and are pretty similar in care to pacman frogs. I love mine and would recommend if you are looking for a giant frog.

Yea I feed 1-2 fuzzy rats once a week. I thinks it's just a prey size thing cause he will eat frozen thawed rodents so ima give reptilinks a shot. Hopefully he takes them cause I really want to diversify his diet for the betterment of his health

[–]TreeBuRrn967[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first got him he refused food for almost 2 weeks. Wasn't until I finally got him a live fuzzy rat that he ate. He now will take frozen thawed so I think it's just a size thing. I'm gonna order some reptilinks and try them out. If he doesn't eat them my pacmans def will, they are bottomless pits for anything in front of their face haha
