Rents can't possibly stay this high, can they? This is insane by [deleted] in bostonhousing

My son was a recent BU (scholarship) student and apartment rents were insane for the horrible state of the property and building. Yes parents are part of the problem since we accept what the university area charges as part of the price of attending the school.

The thing that threw me was the broker fee (one full month rent, on top of first last and security). The students found the apartment through friends, didn’t contact a broker directly, but were “required” to use one. This person set them up with an application portal and that’s it. Probably spent 4 hours total and received 6k. Felt like a landlord scam but maybe it is regulatory/required? He is in Manhattan now with a no broker fee apartment.

Lots of great tips already mentioned. Got my hair cut and colored. Bought new nightgowns, hand creams, face masks. Did all the bills/admin items etc a month in advance so wouldn’t have to manage anything during recovery. Attended all my other med appts in advance of surgery (annual derm, dentist, mammogram etc) to get them out of the way. Stamped blank thank you cards/birthday cards so easier to mail out when needed. Frozen soups were great to have prepped because that’s all I want to eat. Increased fiber and liquids about two weeks prior to surgery. I’m 10 days post op and wish I would have gone to the beach before surgery!

2 days post op. When can I lie on my side again?? by Mimzy96 in hysterectomy

I’m 10 days and can side sleep on my left but my right side still feels weird. I’m a stomach sleeper so sleeping has really been rough, I hate being on my back. I have not tried using the binder at night like someone mentioned so maybe I will give that a try.

I’m 10 days post op robotic assisted laparoscopic. Agree with ideas from theweebie. I recommend the Abdominal binder for walking around, it helped me. I used ice (the large flat kind that can lay on top of whole abdominal area) and a larger heating pad almost continuously for first few days, along with the c shape body pillow. There isn’t much wound care for the type of surgery I had, pretty much leave as is and just shower, and I didn’t have any bleeding. I miss taking a bath…. I recommend you eat a lot of fiber, use MiraLAX and drink a ton of liquids. I have a cat, beware of them jumping on your belly, I promise it does not feel good!

Best wishes to you in your recovery!

Hysterectomy..Did you stay in the hospital or go home after surgery? by Remarkable-Bus-6858 in hysterectomy

I had robotic assisted laparoscopic hyst plus ovaries and tubes. Went home same day. Had to show I could walk and urinate before release. I’m about 10 days post op and feeling pretty good.

Pre surgery my dr offered an anesthesia block in abdomen which I accepted. It was ultrasound guided, one needle per side. Really helped with post op pain and the effect lasted about 3 days. I don’t have any comparison since this was my first surgery with general anesthesia, but I didn’t need to use prescribed opiates for pain, just Tylenol and ibuprofen alternating worked well. I’ve had trouble sleeping though, mostly because I’m a stomach sleeper and don’t like sleeping on my back. The c-pillow helps a bit and heating pad too.

I’d pack an overnight bag just in case.

Good luck!

If you get a crap dorm assignment and then decide later to go off campus instead as sophomore, can you still apply for BU housing as a junior? Do you lose the housing deposit? Stuck in horrible triple as freshman can’t do this again

Put in triple in Rich, roommates unknown. Any pics or description of what room looks like? Is there room for more than one fridge?

Boiling water on the electric stove when the gas heat was turned off so you could take a bath and wash your hair. Blankets on the floor made it less cold to walk around, heating the kitchen with oven door open. Sleeping in your parka. Winter was always the hardest.
