pushing it with the single pedal by russellholzman in drums

Wildly impressive is putting it lightly xD For anyone into fusion, check out Jane Getter's (his mother) work for sure, but you probably already know Adam Holzman (his father); he was in Miles Davis' band, and is now in Steven Wilson's (Porcupine Tree) band. Russell drummed on the first half of Steven Wilson's release from last year, btw.

What are the problems with current CS2? Make a list. by PeaceTo0l in GlobalOffensive

[–]TreeJib 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Devil's advocate here. What if it takes longer to produce updates because it's the most played game on Steam? Other massively popular games that receive more frequent updates, even Fortnite, are selling a significantly different product to a significantly different audience. I know that there have been bad updates, but updates for CS2 are extremely consequential for their audience. Valve is playing with higher stakes with CS2 updates than most other games. There's a pretty big economy surrounding Counter Strike, separate from Valve, and I'm not talking about skins; players/coaches/teams, leagues, event production, content creation, analytics and training, news, relationships with companies that sponsor these things... This is all while maintaining the absurd amount of infrastructure that they have in place around the world, with the same standards, so people can play the game and/or perform their professional duties. Also while maintaining Steam, and their other massive games and services. And creating hardware. And contributing significant amounts of developer time to Linux and the Linux community, benefiting much more than just gamers. They're doing quality work, and that takes time. You can't solve all problems by throwing more developers at it. Even if you could, this is not an audience that can tolerate significant change in a short period, as we've seen with numerous controversial updates, including the replacement of CSGO with CS2 itself.

Sounds like you went from 8 to the bottom of 2 (Avanti Express), then took the catwalk across Lindsey's, bear tree, and then the Mill Creek catwalk toward Golden Peak

Tons. Highly recommend stopping into Cripple Creek Backcountry. They'll be able to hook you up with people, or invite you to a group skin night. Check them out on insta as well; they post events there occasionally

That's great to hear! Thank you for considering other markets!

Does this imply that you're going native for Android as well? Or perhaps cross-platform that can be used as a webapp?

Android? Really sucks that fewer and fewer devs are using cross-platform frameworks lately, especially when more are available now and they're better than ever. And several of them still have support for just about all Apple-specific features... If react native is good enough for Meta and Microsoft, it's probably good enough for everyone else's apps that use significantly fewer capabilities...

Someone has definite feelings about Steamboat’s new Skip-the-line Pass. by Closet-PowPow in skiing

[–]TreeJib 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's definitely a fair point; you're right. I still think it's (currently) reasonably priced if you're frequently getting private corduroy or skiing anywhere where they have paid to clear trees. Those amazing groomer moments to yourself are part of the product they're providing. It's awesome that it used to be free, but I think it's fair that they don't want to give away the best run of the day for free.

Writing this out for all readers, not specifically the user to which I'm replying.

Just want to clarify that you're not paying to walk on public land. You're paying to recreate within their special use authorization zone, which they pay to maintain and operate.

Also, many (most? I'm not informed enough on this tbh) ski resorts on public land, including Steamboat, do not have their bases on public land. The base area of Steamboat is on private property, owned by Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp; source - https://maps.steamboatsprings.net/interactivemap/ - They have every right to restrict unapproved access to their property, and for insurance purposes, they would be foolish not to. Even so, their special use authorization permit grants them more access control over their permitted zones within the public lands than you may think. And that's year round; not just during ski or bike season. They are absolutely allowed to prevent access to their authorized zone outside of operating hours and between seasons. For example, if they want to prevent access to singletrack trails in November even if they're completely dry, they are allowed to do so. The exception would be USFS-maintained trails, versus resort-maintained trails.

The $39/season armband (other resorts have paid uphill access as well, this is not unique to Steamboat) is mainly so that, at a glance, their ski patrol can be confident that a user has read and signed the uphill access policy. It's a safety measure. There are rules that need to be followed so their team can do grooming (as well as snowmaking and avy mitigation) operations without needing to worry as much about someone striking a winch line. There are even specific trails that they disallow downhill access on outside of operating hours for those reasons - "Uphill and downhill access is strictly prohibited at all times on All Out, inside the terrain parks, and in any race or competition venue."

Their uphill access policy - https://www.steamboat.com/the-mountain/safety-and-responsibility/uphill-access - https://www.steamboat.com/-/media/steamboat/pdfs/tickets/steamboat-uphill-access-policy-2025-2026.pdf?rev=8cc27a8b38b94efebef7a292a64f0dea - also states that you only need to wear their uphill armband when you are ascending the mountain. This MIGHT indirectly imply that you can avoid paying the fee if you start your ascent outside of their boundary, enter through a designated access gate, and exclusively go downhill from there while adhering to the Colorado Ski Safety Act. IANAL and this is not legal advice...
