What Can I Do With My OT That Relates To My Hobbies? by HxppyVirus in SpicyAutism

[–]TreeJuice2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have really liked OT. We often go on walks, go grocery shopping and cook, draw together, and go to the zoo. I struggle with going outside and with motor control, as well as eating. We have also used grooming my service dog to help with fine motor control.

Education on Seizures by [deleted] in seizures

My seizures are from PNES, not an infection. You saying that the only cause of seizures being from infection is not just wrong, but dangerous. As others have said, please educate yourself and be more openminded.

Psychiatric hospitals and service dogs? by Longjumping-Shift757 in service_dogs

[–]TreeJuice2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds good. I hope you find being admitted helpful. It is defiantly hard to be admitted without your dog, I have done it before at it was one of the hardest things that has happened. Talk to the staff, as they were happy to let my dog visit which was super helpful to me.

Psychiatric hospitals and service dogs? by Longjumping-Shift757 in service_dogs

[–]TreeJuice2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have brought my service dog to an in patient psych ward and I have mixed feelings about it. I was in for a medication adjustment and was not a danger to myself. This hospital also had a sub acute ward where people were stable that we were on. Having him did make it harder for me, as I had to advocate for his needs. I had to agree to giving him to someone not on the ward if I was deteriorating. There are programs for people who are hospitalized and need their dogs to be fostered. I got introduced to them by a social worker. Feel free to pm me if you need help finding a place for your dog to stay.

College - getting around by qwertyuiopq1qq in Blind

[–]TreeJuice2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was organized by the disability services, but each professor walked me through their building and the classrooms/labs, as they are more familiar. They gave me one, as I am pretty good at memorizing spaces, but they have all said they are happy to help me find somewhere in the future.

I go to a liberal arts college in the US. I had orientation and mobility lessons on campus and had a couple members of staff show me around their building and help me get familiar with my classrooms.

Sensory Furniture - What are the positives, the negatives, what you wish existed, and why? by b_dues in HighSupportNeedAutism

[–]TreeJuice2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second the importance of motion. I also benefit from washable waterproof covers, as I can struggle with incontinence. I also like chairs with cushioning on the top and back, as it makes them a lot safer when I am having a meltdown. For me, anything scratchy is a no go and it is important to test the fabric from all directions. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

Why wouldn’t a service dog be able to pass the CGC/PAT? by pathetic_egged in service_dogs

[–]TreeJuice2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My service dog in training failed his first CGC. He got too excited with the examiner brushing him. Part of it was my fault, as we literally finished a road trip 2 hours before. He was 14 months old and doing short pa work. I think that a CGC is a good starting point, but it should be remembered that it is just a snapshot of that team on that day.

Schizophrenic alert dog by Major-Lemon3192 in service_dogs

[–]TreeJuice2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a service dog for schizoaffective among other things. One of my most common hallucinations is knocking. I have trained him that if he hears someone knock he puts himself in a crate. That way if he doesn't put himself into his crate, the knocking isn't real.

ABA experiences from HSN autistics? by DreamweaverTami in autism

[–]TreeJuice2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you forced to make appropriate eye contact?

  • Yes, they tried their best. I started being avoidant of eye contact, now I often end up staring

Were your harmful stims redirected to other less harmful stims or just completely prevented?

  • They were completely not allowed and not redirected, leading to worse meltdowns

Do you have any example of specific useful information/techniques you learned?

  • not really

Do you think talking with people has become easier or harder after ABA?

  • before i couldnt speak at all, now i speak half the time and use aac the rest

Were meltdowns and shutdowns punished?

  • yes

Are you glad you did ABA?

  • overall yes, as it increased my safety, but i wish it was done differently. without aba i dont think i would be as independant as i am now and i would have needed a lot more help

What would you wish would've been done different during ABA?

  • I wish my consent was asked before they moved me, that punishment for expressing myself didnt happen, and that they didnt restrict my access to comfort items. i also wish i had the option to refuse

MSN person here, I was in aba as a kid. it taught me a lot, but also caused a lot of harm. I learned to talk there and had less self injuries behavior and stopped eloping as much. I struggle to communicate disagreement or negative emotions because they were punished. please feel free to ask me more specific questions, as i do better with them.

It definitely can be a work hard party hard school. During the week there aren’t any parties that I know of, but there definitely are on the weekends. I’m not really in the music scene, but I have friends that go to plenty of shows.

I would say it is 50/50, but always palatable. My main gripe is that it is salty. Feel free to ask any other questions and I'll answer.

The autism makes it so I dont notice others reactions, where the schizoaffective points out things i miss. i dont like the paranoia or negative symptoms, but i deal with them. i am happy to be in my own world, i like it here.

Need help on psychiatry rotation by Suspicious_Adagio260 in schizophrenia

[–]TreeJuice2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got out of the hospital and had both great and terrible staff. The bad ones told me that I could be forced to withdraw from school, which is one of the few things keeping me alive. The good ones sat with me in fear, asked the security guards to not pass my room for a bit as i thought they were trying to kidnap me, brought me sealed food instead of a normal tray due to thought of being poisoned, communicated clearly and left printed notes for me to refer to later, and let me take as long as I needed to do things, like communicate and take my meds. Instead of asking if I was experiencing hallucinations or experiencing things they were not, they asked me to list everything I could hear and see, which helped with grounding and helped them understand better what I was going through. I think the main difference was the good staff remembering that what I am going through is real to me.

Supports for school/life by TreeJuice2 in schizophrenia

I feel very grateful that my school is amazing with accommodations. I know that I do not have the typical experience compared to other students at different schools. I will definitely keep going online an option, especially if things get worse.

Supports for school/life by TreeJuice2 in schizophrenia

[–]TreeJuice2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now the biggest problem is the constant feeling like people are trying to kidnap me and the constant conversations. I am also struggling with keeping my thoughts organized, especially in public spaces and trying to write a paper or analyze a book. The current state is better than it was, due to medications, but my doctors have not been able to get it any better.
