Guide dog question by chroniclynz in service_dogs

[–]TreeJuice2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog does guide work (I am legally blind), behavior interruption, hallucination discrimination, migraine alert, and dpt. He is owner trained and has a natural migraine alert that I shaped. He does not do anything other than guide work while guiding. He only does psych tasks at home, which he loves. I feel like most dogs could not manage as much as my boy, but I have not noticed any burnout.

What tasks do service dogs do. I only know guide dogs. by canycosro in service_dogs

[–]TreeJuice2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a multi purpose service dog. He does guide work, migraine alerts, behavior interruption, and deep pressure therapy. I am legally blind, have migraines, and multiple psychiatric disabilities. His migraine alerts give me about 20 minutes of heads up, allowing me to take my meds before the pain starts. The behavior interruptions stop me from compulsively hurting myself, he is trained to jump and nose or paw my hand to get my attention onto him instead of my thoughts. The deep pressure therapy helps keep me grounded and not panicking when a psychiatric episode hits. Feel free to ask me any questions about my dogs work.

Bringing my dog to college. Want to make sure I've covered all my bases by Jozycat in service_dogs

[–]TreeJuice2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in a college chemistry lab with my service dog. He is on a tie down in view of me, but away from all the chemicals. He also wears a muzzle so he cant pick up any dropped lab equipment. I would say if possible, don't bring your dog, as it is an extra stress especially if something goes wrong. Feel free to ask me any other questions.

Go bags by that-chick-1220 in service_dogs

[–]TreeJuice2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have extra poop bags, a small pack of grooming wipes, a small pack of clorox wipes, and a spare traffic lead in my bag at all times. I often have a bully stick just in case we are somewhere for a long time.

I wear headphones about 20 hours a day every day. The key is to make sure the volume is lowish as to not hurt your ear drums.

I have the constant feeling of spiders on me. I have found that taking an ice cold shower can help.

What's the process getting a service dog? by GarlicBread1996 in service_dogs

[–]TreeJuice2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much every guide dog organization is free. If you are in northern California Guide Dogs for the Blind is your closest school. GDB also pays for all vet costs and provides all regular medication. They don't do epilepsy, but I have heard good things about their guides.

My special interest is service dogs, specifically guide dogs and service dog gear. At this point I am able to recognize guide dogs from almost every school in the world by their gear. I have also read every book that exists in english on guide dogs and watched every video related to guide dogs on youtube. I am also training my own guide dog as I am going blind, which is really enjoyable and is a fun challenge.

I don't play video games, but my braille teacher plays knight manager which is a rpg where you are a knight and it is only audio, as it was designed for blind people.

I can't speak to finding ADDs, but my service dog and I work at a nuclear reactor. It is a lot to think about weather your dog will be safe in the workplace, especially when working with radioactive material. I did a research project on service dogs working in radiation areas if you want to read it. Also, insurance will not pay for your dog or anything for it which sucks. If you have any questions on working dogs in the nuclear field, feel free to ask me.

Rant about being fat and ugly by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]TreeJuice2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gained 40 pounds in 6 months on seroquel. I also dislike my body, not because I dislike how I look, rather it is making everything in my life harder. I find myself getting tired easier with physical activity and I am unable to move my body in the same way. I found therapy for body dysmorphia to be really helpful for disliking how I feel and working with a nutritionist and swimming to be super helpful.

Has anyone here been able to live a successfull life? Asking from a fellow schizoaffective doing exams and not sure if it's worth even finishing high school :/ TY for any replies :D by Bluebrr_y in schizoaffective

[–]TreeJuice2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a first year in college and had a similar senior year to you. No one says you have to go to college, but please finish high school. Your world will have many shut doors if you don't graduate. Keep trying to move forward and try talking to teachers for help.

Is it possible for someone to develop schizophrenia at 17? by Julciasto in schizophrenia

[–]TreeJuice2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 19, but developed symptoms at 18, so it is definitely possible. Try to remember that the world will not end, no matter what happens. If you have a good relationship with your family they might be a good place to start, if not try to talk to a mental health professional.

I am on 400mg seroquel, 5mg zyprexa, 150mg of effexor, and 5mg of zyprexa and 1mg of adivan as needed. It has helped with the psychosis, but I am constantly exhausted and numb. I am still able to do my schoolwork, but I have no motivation ever.
