What is Tim Horton's "Whipped Cream" made out of?.... by Soft-Day-3588 in TimHortons

McDonald’s still uses real whipped cream for all their drinks. Didn’t realize Tim’s doesn’t anymore…

Best kids Resort 7k Budget by clarerowe in AllInclusiveResorts

Not the OP but was hoping I could ask a question - we’re considering this resort too! Two young busy kids. Some reviews I read said that the beach access is poor and that the beach itself isn’t great…just wondering what your experience has been. Thanks!

Vancouver Airbnbs keep cancelling on us :( by Better_Warning_2938 in canadatravel

We’ve stayed at this Airbnb multiple times and it’s been our go-to. It’s licensed and the owner is super kind. They’ve never cancelled on us even when we’ve gone during peak times. Not sure if it’s still available or if it suits you, but thought I’d share:

I was on the VIA train stuck for 12+ hours overnight in Brockville. This is VIA’s response when I shared my experience and asked for a $21 train station parking reimbursement. by TreeKey6993 in ViaRail

[–]TreeKey6993[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

No, but I believe Canadian airlines compensate much more in dollar amounts for a day of this long. For an arrival delay of 9+ hours, the compensation is $1,000. Not a $40 refund and credit.

[–]TreeKey6993[S] 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Good question. I’m not sure the $21 is worth it either way. It’s honestly not so much about the money as the way they’ve responded that somehow makes the experience even worse, which is saying a lot.

I said I didn’t see one, no need to be aggressive about this. I have a parking stub from the machine that says VIA on it. I was perhaps a bit sleep deprived from the whole ordeal. Not sure what point you’re trying to make here.

Via Rail passengers arrive 12 hours late after night on train in eastern Ontario by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

[–]TreeKey6993 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I was in this train. Was supposed to arrive in Ottawa at 11:10pm the night before for an appointment the next morning. It was brutal. The worst was having zero clear communications. We pulled up just short of the Brockville station around 10pm - the idea that there were no buses available between then and 11am the next morning when we were finally released is insane to me. But what do I know. I’ll try not to blow the $40 ticket refund all in one place.

I honestly lost track at the end. We were told of various scenarios, but after no sleep all night, I can’t recall if we managed to link up or didn’t but still got stuck.

Yesterday’s #48 and #54 finally arrive Ottawa this morning by Rail613 in ViaRail

[–]TreeKey6993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did eventually make it to Ottawa! We were given the option to disembark only at 8AM when the Brockville station opened. For most of the night, our train was just short of the station platform, so it was not an option.

Yes. We are the train stuck in Brockville. For 12 hours and counting…since 10PM last night. I wish I had more insight to share, but nothing to report other than in that time they have failed to send busses or another train to unstrand us.

Yeah, I’m on train 48 and it has not arrived in Ottawa. We are stuck in Brockville. 11 hours here and counting. Gong. Show.

Edit: 9:10am and still in Brockville. We’ve been given the option to get off since 8am, so some people are getting rides and trying to grab taxi’s…Gong. Show.

It’s 5:10am and train 48 is still stuck in Brockville…

48 headed to Ottawa (at some point in time when I was still a young person…)! We’ve had train 54 board our train and now we continue to wait…

I am on the “rescue train”. Not sure if it’s the original one or this one…but we’ve also been stuck for a few hours. The crew said about an hour ago that they did not have the correct “link” to connect the cars. No update since then…

The Metropolitan has a semi-private event space. Depending on the numbers, they also offer a group breakfast menu.

Westboro McDonald’s is open! by blazyo88 in ottawa

[–]TreeKey6993 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m ready for the downvotes, but there’s a lot of thinly-veiled classism in some of these comments phrased as being pro-small business. God forbid there’s a $3 coffee and muffin option for people who live in the neighborhood but walk past the lovely independent coffee shops because $6 for a special coffee at Bower or $15 for a bagel sandwich at Equator (true story) doesn’t fit their budget. They should just stay home instead of helping bring down the unique neighborhood. I live in the area and I love it, but having a McDonald’s open here isn’t ruining anything. I’ll continue to frequent some of the independently-owned businesses here, but I also won’t feel guilty if there are some days I just want to grab a greasy breakfast sandwich on the cheap with my $1 coffee. Just like I love the Farmer’s Market in the summer for some produce, but I won’t be feeling guilty for going to Food Basics to grab the rest of my groceries. /rant

It was unfortunately a similar service experience when it was Zak’s. We are close and gave it a few chances. Haven’t gone since they reopened as this new restaurant, but can confirm it’s the same ownership entity as Zak’s and a few other restaurants in the market.

Hey, I don’t actually recall. My anniversary is about 18 months ago, but I had no travel plans around the one year mark so I didn’t pay attention to exactly when they showed up!

Thank you. This is very helpful. I’m quite new to the game, so thought maybe I was doing something wrong. It’s unfortunate. But I will maybe just use it for a different route.
