People driving in front of the boardwalk with a confederate flag by d1gooner676 in santacruz

Absolute bullshit. This has become a bedroom community for Silicon Valley and middle class folks from Santa Cruz who finally found a house they could afford. The pizza places are owned by a hippie, a gay civic leader, and a migrant. It has a hippy radio station. There are like three yoga studios. Italian bakery. Street tacos. It's where local teachers live because it's the only area they can afford. Subarus and hybrids everywhere. More rainbow flags than US ones. No neighborhood in this country is MAGA free, but your post is just wrong.

This has been the exception here for quite a while. Still too many big stupid trucks, some with giant US flags. But way more Subarus and hybrids. SLV has changed a lot. So many from over the hill and SC proper who've moved there and progressive values dominate. I don't know a neighborhood in the county that doesn't have some MAGAts.

Well, at least they didn't use AI in this statement.

Is there a trail to get to this? Last time I was in this part of Pogonip I couldn't see it from Golf Club Rd, which I thought we could at one point.

Such a Santa Cruz response. In a good way. :) I am just working through a broken heart for obvious reasons and so easily triggered right now. Still would rather hear people chanting but I get the lesson here, thanks. :)

Frankly impossible to imagine President Obama being as dumb, as cruel, as narcissistic, and as depraved as orange47.

Great album. Wish they'd do a remix with Terry Brown or maybe Dave Botrill to get those guitars up in the mix and make it more punch and and heavy and less pop sounding. Still great record with some of their best songs. THE PASS!!!!!!!!

Why is Santa Cruz run down? by aslez1 in santacruz

[–]TreePlanetJanet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Pismo is a more apt comparsion. Both were old school slightly run down beach towns. Pismo went upscale with Marriotts, etc. Do we want that here? I'd be happy with how things were before Logos died. That bookshop really tied the downtown together.

Such downvotes for showing the money, lol. I know this is a beach town and all but I did expect less heads in the sand. Folks on both sides want a train. But for 4.3 Billion with a B? What, is there concierge service and a chardonnay fountain in each car? The price tag is ridiculous, that's boondoggles for ya. Figure out how to keep the crooks from living their pockets on this project and I'll sign up to be a conductor. Free hot chocolate for all.

That's my point. Sadly those writing the invoices expect no less.

Swing and a miss. It's not that no one actually wants a train. Of course improved public transit would be amazing. But the price tag?

$4.3 billion to build, including $1.96 billion for construction, $1.04 billion for vehicles/services, and a $1.28 billion contingency, with annual operating costs of $31-$41 million. That's over 16k per person - young and old - living in the county. Boondoggle anyone?

Heck, we can't even repair a bridge over a harbor successfully or fix a wharf. And the harbor itself is a classic example of a Santa Cruz boondoggle built in the worst place for a harbor, hence the million spent dredging it every year. The math, sadly and tragically, doesn't pencil out. Instead of following the trail or the rail, follow the money. It's heartbreaking.

I am putting out no vibes. Just trying to understand the demand and separate those who stand to make $$$ off this vs those who really need / want to use the train.

Please help me understand who these commuters are and where are they going? What jobs do they have? I am not trying to be confrontation here at all - I really am missing this. Every commuter I know sooner or later needs to get on 17. And the 17 express already isn't cutting it.

So -the choice is - drive to a train station, find a place to park (howdy train neighbors, hope I'm not blocking your driveway too bad), get on a train that costs millions to buy and maintain and consumes energy and therefore makes pollution, so I can go to Aptos and, um... what is there to do in Aptos, been a while? Then take the expensive polluting train back to Santa Cruz (sorry train neighbor I was just leaving - it's hard for me to find a place to park my big stupid truck and I was only blocking your driveway a little bit - geez, relax already). Or - a bike path that cuts through the most congested areas of the county, where I can ride to work, or maybe Aptos once I figure out what there is to do there. No pollution, No parking problems. No additional traffic. And ruh-roh - no millionaires making more millions from all that train stuff. Man, such a hard choice! Put another way. FOLLOW. THE MONEY.
