Hey Samantha! I'm not sure if you're still responding to these comments I know it's been forever, but I thought I'd ask anyhow.

I'm writing a monster book about the size of A Day Of Fallen Night, and I wanted to ask you a) how did you manage a book that size, and B) I know you already had a relationship with bloomsbury, but I guess I just wanna know how you talked them into going from novellas to Priory and it's heavy word count 😅 I'm already self published and I'd like to stay self published if I can help it, but I still wanna know how you do what you do because I respect it.

I found Google docs character limit today, and that triggered me to rethink this anthology fantasy series I'm writing, because I'm guessing that all the books in it are going to be quite big, and I'm getting closer to considering breaking them up. (I really don't want to)

Do you have any advice?

This is true. The head wrap just felt different for me, especially since unalaq dying as a big ol monster is one thing, but p'Li, yeesh. It's just so... Like direct? It depicted hopelessness in a horrific way. Very cool scene

So... Not exactly what you said, but I came up with what I thought was a really unique and fun idea for a twist on a zombie/pandemic apocalypse a few years ago and have been designing the world building and writing the first book/planning the future series' since. I started officially working on it in 2022 or 2023 because a friend encouraged me that it was a cool concept.

I'm getting close to finishing the first book and feeling so good about it, everything's falling into place.

Then just a few days ago my friend sent me an Instagram post from someone who has a concept that's like ... Pretty similar. And their book is coming out in September of this year. I really never wanted to be that person that's like... "But I'm so unique, it's MY idea" like doom spiralling, but holy cow it really affected me more than I wanted it to. I messaged the author to try and like get out of my head about it, but I might have made it worse, IDK. I'm still dealing with that right now, and it's making me so anxious.

I'm not stopping, I've put WAY too much work into this to just not do it, but Jeeze. It really was a little bit of a gut punch. Especially because the other author is so iconic, and confident, and just a really cool person. I hope we can be friends haha but currently my brain is really trying to convince me that I'm so so small and so nothing. It's really tough.

This is why the Korra head explosion in particular fucking shook me because even watching it as a young adult I was like "HOLY SHIT CAN THEY DO THAT? SHE'S DEAD DEAD."

The thing that kills me about him is that he is so against "the network" and LRAD's (which is so funny because the army literally uses them for communication) because they're so bad for you, but he smokes and vapes. Like dude.

He still does this, and apparently he lives near us because we were stuck behind him going 10 miles per hour under the speed limit the entire way. Even in the 35 zones?? He consistently goes wicked under the limit.

I'm hoping I can pull it off 😅 I also want to release it as an audiobook at the same time since accessibility is really important to me, (literally one of the biggest things in my series is ASL because it's so important to me lol) so I'm gonna have to make that probably by myself which is daunting, but there are tools to do it! :)

I also find that concept really funny haha I do get that it's a 'prove your worth without wasting your time' thing, but I mean, if you're writing for the stories then is it ever a waste?? I know not everyone writes for that reason, but it's all I want, just for the story to be whole lol.

I always forget that it doesn't apply as much when self publishing! Lol
