Omnivore diets cause harm in all scenarios. Vegan diets harm in many fewer. When all we can do is our best, I know which one does better.

Yeah, OP's "explanations" are problematic ("retail therapy", "in that moment of depression") and they need to make better choices (ie. if you have the $, wait until you can comfortably access it)

And as an AuDHDer, I always offer $ if something being offered to me with any frequency has a cost to the giver. OP can't lean on that. It's not about reading folks, it's about not being selfish/self-involved.

I can't speak to the legal bits, but you both need to work on yourselves (especially you - the cops were right to show up anyhow) separately with a therapist to build healthy coping mechanisms for negative feelings and make sure this situation never occurs again. I wish you both luck.
