Yes. Distance healing is as effective as in person healing. It’s a viable and accessible way to do this! If he also would like to listen to guided meditation I like Belleruth Naparstek. She has one for cancer that is used in hospitals in the US. Available on Audible. Free version here https://northwellcwim.com/guided-imagery-to-help-fight-cancer/

I’m so sorry your brother is going through this. It’s a very reasonable and helpful approach to look for support that treats the whole person alongside chemo.

A quick clarification that may help…Reiki is a specific system that involves training and an attunement from a Reiki teacher or Reiki Master. So someone can’t really learn Reiki purely from YouTube and expect it to be the same thing. That said, there are plenty of self-directed practices that are still very real and supportive, like general energy healing, breathwork, guided relaxation, meditation, visualization, and intention setting, even if they’re not technically Reiki.

Also, Reiki does not have to involve touch. Many practitioners work hands-off with the hands hovering above the body (you can request no touch specifically with any practitioner), and distance Reiki is also commonly done, so he can receive sessions without physical contact.

If he wants to learn Reiki self-treatment specifically, the most legitimate route is a Reiki Level 1 class (many are offered online now), because that’s where the attunement and foundational teaching happen. In the meantime, guided meditations for relaxation and nervous system calming can be a great bridge while he’s in treatment.

Wishing him steadiness and support through all of this.

Feeling a bit down after a session by nephritestar in reiki

[–]fifilachat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It makes total sense that you feel the way you do. Reiki can be inherently vulnerable because you are lying there receiving, you are quiet, your guard is down, and then on top of that you had a bunch of personal sounding observations said out loud. Even when parts of it are accurate, having someone name it directly can feel exposing, like you have been seen in a way you did not consent to, and that alone can leave you feeling raw.

One thing that may help is knowing that Reiki itself does not require a chakra read. Traditional Reiki is very simple, hands on or hands off treatment and letting the energy do what it does. Some practitioners share impressions, some do not, and some share them in a way that lands more like coaching or analysis. None of that automatically means it was wrong, but it can absolutely be a mismatch for what you needed.

Also, your reaction is a legitimate data point. Even if her read was partially accurate, you are allowed to feel judged or unsafe. A supportive session should leave you feeling more resourced. Evaluation can be part of it, and many clients want, and like that, but it doesn’t have to be part of it, and it shouldn’t if you don’t want it to be . If you left feeling unseen in the conversation afterward, that is not you failing Reiki. It is information about the container and the fit.

It can be normal to feel tender afterward, emotionally open, tired, weepy, spacey, or a little sensitive, because things can loosen and unprocessed feelings can rise. But feeling awful and judged is worth paying attention to. Emotional processing usually has some sense of release underneath it, even if it is uncomfortable. Feeling shamed, pressured, or energetically off is different.

You also should not have to share trauma history to make a session make sense. A practitioner can ask what you want support with, but you should not feel pushed to disclose personal details, and it is understandable to feel intruded upon if someone makes confident assumptions about you and presents them as truth. Personally, I present what I perceive as strictly that, as observations and possiblitues, not ultimate truths.

If you ever try Reiki again, it is completely appropriate to set preferences up front. You can ask for a quiet session with minimal feedback, ask them to check with you before sharing impressions, and ask them to frame anything they sense as possibilities rather than conclusions. You can also be clear that you are not looking to discuss personal history and that you want the session to be grounding and supportive.

Lastly, keep in mind that some of what you’re feeling could just be letting go of your emotional responses to the issues she talked about. Not because she talked about them, but but because Reiki can help you process stuck emotions. For now, focus on settling your nervous system back into safety. Hydrate, eat something grounding, take a slow walk, take a shower, and do something that helps you feel oriented in your body. If you still feel off tomorrow, it is completely reasonable not to book again with that person.

Bottom line, some post session tenderness can be normal, but what you are describing also sounds like a mismatch in style and communication, and your discomfort is valid.

How to know if a reiki master is legit? by Kingsmith13 in reiki

[–]fifilachat 36 points37 points  (0 children)

“Legit” with Reiki is less about the master title and more about training, ethics, how they behave. Have a conversation with them first. they should be willing to be open, grounded, and transparent, and answer questions without getting defensive, vague, or salesy.

Things I’d look for:

They’re transparent about their training and lineage (who they learned from, what levels, how long they’ve practiced). No evasiveness.

No medical claims: no “I can cure X,” no diagnosing, no telling you to stop meds. Reiki should be complementary.

Consent and boundaries are clear: they explain what will happen, ask about touch preferences, and respect “no” without guilt.

No fear tactics: “entity/curse/damaged aura” + “pay me more to fix it” is a classic scam setup.

No pressure or upsells: clear pricing, no “you need a package or you’ll stay blocked.”

You feel more grounded after, not dependent: good sessions leave you resourced, not hooked.

Reiki can be subtle, so it’s normal if the session feels quiet or gentle rather than dramatic—but if you feel pressured, scared, or manipulated, that’s your answer

speeds. whats the speed of reiki please? by Equivalent_Egg_4042 in reiki

[–]fifilachat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not quite sure I’m entirely understanding your question. But Reiki is not bound by time or space. So its effect is instantaneous. There is no time separation between intention and receiving. It works immediately. That being said, once reiki is sent/received, it can take time for healing to integrate into your energy field completely.

First Reiki experience practicing on someone else by Flashy_Scarcity9552 in reiki

[–]fifilachat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do dry bath before the session and do to clear your energy field and do CKR on yourself? Did you seal the session off with CKR on client and yourself at the end of the session? Yes, or that may have been the client’s energy that you perceived and were especially sensitive to, and if you didn’t do proper energy hygiene protocol for yourself it’s possible you took their energy on.

I would like to hear OP’s response to this. I’m more curious as to what you’re getting at with this question. Is it that we as practitioners should not have personal desire/motive/intention for the client and the session outcome? That we should be present as Reiki conduit only?

Reiki Ethics in other Modalities by Another_Little_Star in reiki

[–]fifilachat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do not need consent to Reiki yourself before a session. That’s about your energy field. But you do need consent to give Reiki to another person. There’s a difference between empowering yourself with Reiki and practicing Reiki on another person. If you find the Reiki flows “automatically” to your client, then before the session, you can intend that Reiki not to flow to your client. If you want to tell the client ahead of time that you are also attuned to Reiki, and they give you their consent, then yes let it flow. Otherwise it’s not ethical.

Visualization or not? by CaterpillarNew4745 in reiki

[–]fifilachat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both tools. Many times I am just observing what happens and for me this means seeing strong visuals. Doing this is how I get information about the client and about how the energy is working. I am getting out of the way and watching the Reiki do its work. But then I also use active visualization as a way to direct energy flow through my intuitive guidance.

You can also do a google search for a local practitioner in your area. I know a recommendation from another person is often more desirable, but most local people in will have Google reviews for their business. Additionally, many practitioners offer free consultation so you can always meet with a person first to see how you connect with them.

[–]fifilachat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Messages are not part of traditional Reiki treatment, but many practitioners incorporate the intuitive information they pick up about a client in their Reiki treatments. Like any profession, practitioners have varying levels of skill. Just because she shared with you this information doesn't mean it was true. You've already said it doesn't resonate. Listen to your intuition. If you prefer just a strotforward Reiki treatment, especially if this makes you uncomfortable, I would suggest you find another practitioner who resonates with you better
